  • Hi! This is a video tutorial on how to make Foil Crackle Earrings from Polymer clay! This technique is called the Crackle effect with metal foils and Alchohol Inks! You can make a different sort of DIY jewelry this way: earrings, charms, necklaces, etc. :)
For making it I used polymer clay (my favorite brands: Premo, Fimo, Cernit, and Sculpey), Metal Leaf, Pasta machine, Alchohol Inks, Polymer clay Cutters, a pen tube (or a straw), Sandpaper (400 and 2000 grits), a Driller, Jewelry findings, a Craft knife, Glue.

******! We can also try another colorway: Base of ivory; foil of silver; inks of neutrals or pastels (white liquid poly tinted w. inks?).

I love these. I tried to make them but the alcohol ink faded do much all you could see was the silver crackle. I use good alcohol inks. Any tips?

Hi there! I make polymer clay pens and have been wanting to try alcohol inks with clay forever now. This is just breathtaking!! I do have a question though. When I make my pens, I usually apply cane pieces to the pen or make a sheet with polymer clay and then wrap the pen. My question is, does the alcohol inks dry completely to where I can make a sheet like you did here, let it dry and then wrap the pen and be ok to roll it on my surface to smooth it out before baking? Any other tips would soooo appreciated too. I think you're amazing and I just love watching your work!! Thank you so much!

Hi! Thank you so much for your compliments! I truly appreciate it!😊
I have seen some pen-making techniques in the past, it was so intriguing and rewarding to watch! All pieces come together, bringing the final creation to life - I Loved it!💕 It's so wonderful you are considering trying a new way! I think you grow as an artist by not settling but challenging yourself. Even if it does not work out the first time lol... we learn from it. You have to try this method for sure!
In my experience, inks didn't dry completely... Perhaps it's because I applied a lot of it... The more ink - the more saturation and contrast it gives.
I'm afraid when you wrap a clay sheet around the pen - the ink may smear... But maybe I'm wrong! 🤷🏼‍♀️
I would recommend starting with a sample using this method and try to see if it works before wrapping the pen. I hope it will work out great! 😉👍🏻

What kind of varnish do you use and does it have to be baked to dry? Love these!

Sorry for the late reply, I use Cernit matte (it can be baked) and Sculpey satin varnish. 🌷🌺

I have quite a lot of foils would they work ok?

Sorry for the late reply🌷! I never tried a regular foil for this project, but I think this could work! You need thinner foil as possible. If you tried your foil, please let me know! Interesting to know the result! 😊

This may be a stupid question but even though alcohol in says as flammable as store safe to mix on polymer clay with the foil and put in the oven should I get a conventional oven a regular oven safe

Sorry for the late reply!🌷 That is my old oven (in the picture). I used it in the past. These earrings I baked in my smaller toaster oven. You can see them here: ruclips.net/video/1UykWr9I61o/видео.html&lc=UgwekhM46Ai4uGJJ5iR4AaABAg
