Hopefully EA will step up their game when they have actual competition. Paralives looks so good already and it's not even in alpha. I mean - I'd buy it if it was just a building simulator. I can't wait to see how the development goes on. So excited for this game!

exactly. EA has got away with a lot of stuff purely just because it doesn't have any real competition. it's about time they had something that's going to make them step up their game

I do hope that Paralives does do well outside of the whole "EA needs competition" crowd (I'm in that crowd), but I am excited for EA to finally have some competition. I mean it's sounding like it, since we now have bunk beds and raised rooms, but I don't know how long that's been in development for.

I feel like Paralives as already had an impact on features we now have in the Sims 4. The Split level tool looks quite similar to Paralives. Also being able to moves door and windows independent from the grid was added after it was known Paralives would have this feature. They have gotten more adventurous with exploring new build mode features, which before they simply stamped as not doable. They might have gotten away with this excuse before but Paralives is showing that it is doable.

Competition is healthy for business, I think it hurt the Sims that there was no real competitor for all these years. It's kind of ridiculous if you think about it, with all the variety we have in the world, that there's only one life simulation game around.

i don't like the idea of using paralives as a way for us to force ea to do better - it's not fair on paralives! ea should already be striving to be better with the extensive amount of resources they have on hand (not to mention the amount of negative feedback they get fairly regularly). time after time again, it seems like they simply choose not to because they'll make their money regardless. paralives looks like a good game, and i think we should focus on it as its own entity rather than solely comparing it to the sims 4 as a way to stick it to ea if that makes sense!

I 100% agree! It’s hard not to compare the games because there really isn’t any sims competition out there, but I like to try to see Paralives as a unique game as best I can.

Unfortunately, it's either this or we go to every single one of EA's cash cows or Whales and make them stop paying for everything and hit them where it hurts. The bank account. I admit I have spent an exorbant and shameful amount on their content if only because I've been a fan of Sims for so long but I've been trying to curb my addiction and pirate as much as possible.

@@TheBlackAntagonist I own almost all the sims 3 packs and every single sims 4 pack besides a couple unmentionables because I have an unhealthy obsession with sims content. I can honestly say though, even if paralives is so incredible and arguably better than the sims, I’ll still play the sims because of how much it’s held a special place in my heart. And that’s exactly why I’m trying to see them as 2 entirely different games so I don’t feel as though I have to directly compare them and decide between them, if that makes sense.

If I wanted to try to be fair to EA, I would say that the Paralives team has the benefit of learning from the mistakes that EA made on launch.
But then I'd also have to talk about how EA had their own previous games in the series to learn what their fans liked and didn't like and how they squandered that knowledge, so I don't know if it's the kind of "fair" EA would want to see.

Since everything seems to have a "move objects" style of placement but on steroids there has to be a point where a Para cannot use them, correct? It's a great feature for the freedom it brings but that is a worry I have. Perhaps they're already working on it, but an indicator (if possible) would be cool to have. They've already released the answer for how they're gonna handle stuff like unaligned chairs, seats with cushions on them, counters and tables at differnet heights, etc. The game is going to be built with procedural animations in mind. So depending on the height of a seat, the game will run a super quick AI the adjust the base animation slightly so the parafolk wont clip in with the seat. This allows them to have height sliders for the parafolk, aswell as far, far smoother animations overall.

It's so exciting to watch the team grow! not just game developers, but other people who love the sims and simulation style games. they're not just paying attention to what people of the sims community want - they ARE the sims community that wants these things actively themselves. I think that makes a difference in the end result, so I'm stoked.

I've been obsessed with paralives for forever now. I am too very curious how animations/gameplay works, I know they're using a certain kind of animation that will kind snap to it's environment - can't remember what it's called but you don't have to sit and animate every single thing exactly because the model can tell when it need to hunch etc. This is just my basic understanding.
Also just wanna be a bit of a Debbie downer here and fellow reminder: as much as I want paralives to give competition vto the Sims (and so do all of maxis predecessors) if sims drops enough, EA will let it did like sims city 2014 and many others. EA just does this. I don't have much faith in the Sims seeing as sims 5 will likely be on console first or perhaps online only (their CEO Andrew Wilson said this). But as a flagship series, perhaps they actually will give a damn for 2 seconds and remember who lines their pockets.

When Paralives uploaded a video showing the platforms, it was before Sims 4 dished it out. (As far as I recall.) So that's a lot of tea to drink.

I really love the way off-the-grid placement seems to work, the way items are randomly aligned, but I will say when we haven't yet seen a single video involving Para's moving around and doing animations at length, I really don't trust this is the sort of thing you'll be able to do and have it be functional. Like I love the item scaling-- I really think it's a brilliant idea for a life sim to have less objects but just make them more adjustable-- but again, it'll entirely depend on how these customizations will function for the actual paras. I know they have big ideas about these things working, but I'm a little antsy to actually see it in action. Personally, seeing build/buy gameplay isn't interesting to me until they've shown me the limitations or lack thereof in actual gameplay with those items.

Its not built in the clunky resource hungry way the sims team build sims 4. The entire framework for how objects work is just totally different & utilises techniques which have been available in architectural design programs for decades. The sims handles things in a very peculiar way compared to other games out there too, making it way more resource hungry than it needs to be.

@@MiloKuroshiro I've been a patron of theirs for awhile and it's still early days but because of customizable furniture and different heights of parafolk they're designing an animation system that individually reacts to the thing they're interacting with, whether that be a different animation like hopping up on a chair instead of sitting down normally or just organically snapping to the points they need to actually connect to. Even the early iteration looked very decent for pre alpha so I have faith even if it's not a simple process. I don't remember if that was secret tho I think one of their devs shared that on their Twitter.
