The one good thing that came out of the pandemic was the possibility of watching such seminars or discourses on line. I hope this continues after the pandemic is over. Thank you!

And yes, i believe that it s important to not detach faith within population or subject of history from their narration. Because either it s traditional faith or belief in any kind of idea , there s a deep-seated need in every human being to have an anchor.

I find it fascinating the distaste or quaesiness of many academics in regard to God or miracles. The world and nature are full of wonders and God as detailed in both OT&NT is the perfect example of sovereign being who gives us freedom w/out ever being a dictator, always just & full of mercy & compassion..despite of course human evil actions do entail consequences that are ongoing up to today

Also check the work of Ozavci, Dangerous Gifts. He puts the Greek revolution into a larger context using Ottoman as well as Arabic sources

Anyone that tries to decouple Greeks from ancient Greek history is no friend of Hellenism..

Why didn't the Turk swamp the area's with force supported from Asia minor. What was their thinking, and what was their condition. Surely without doing anything major they would have pushed the Greeks to stripping their own from the mountains.

I like Mazower but he's clearly a "Hobsbaum's student" .. like so many other new Historians.
Marxist interpretation of historic facts is way too rationalized for my taste.

Mazower is unprincipled crypto-nationalist full of crap. He "desconstructs'" other nations as myths.. but then claims to be a "real" Jewish. And goes back in time and rewrites a different narrative than the primary sources themselves say... an inversion of history telling.
And I would point out for all their talk of being more modern more knowledgable experts, both authors in this video are from the humanities. They have no clue how genetically related modern Greeks are to ancient Greek. They are not even qualified to have a professional opinion on the matter. If they did their actual homework, they'd discover there are now multiple DNA studies using ancient Greek DNA for comparative analysis saying modern Greeks are direct descendents of ancient Greeks. To what degree their is admixture due to mostly back and forth regional assimilation is a question for population geneticists not quacks from the humanities unprofessionally ypeddling their politics under the veneer of objective academic work (see Sokal affair)
