I'm surprised the Nadders never run out of tail spines. For how often and how many are used, they must grow at an alarming rate, which also means they would need to eat more than another dragon their size because they need the nutrients to support their tail spine growing.
The Nadder actually WAS a sharp class dragon (see the HTTYD short "Book of Dragons"), but this was retconned with the introduction of the tracker class.

The naders we're a Sharp class dragon but DreamWorks changed it to Tracker class when HTTYD2 came out

Actually it was when they found skullcrusher and then replaced the fear class with the tracker class.
ShadowWolfMC I think he forgot to say that Naders can regrow ther spike's.
Well it has a good sense of smell and can track effectively
Or maybe there's dragons in more than one class
I have a theory on Gronckle biology:
Because it is such a heavy-built dragon, there is no way its small wings could lift it off the ground, especially with a huge club tail weighing it down.
I believe, instead, that the Gronckle uses a very large, powerful storage of helium (the gas used in balloons) to lift it into the air. The club, while it is very useful for combat, may actually have evolved so that the Gronckle can keep its balance flying. With such a large storage of helium, it would need the club tail to act as a sort of weight to keep it from floating into the atmosphere uncontrollably.
I would even argue that its small wings have a purpose. They are probably for controlled flight, conveniently allowing the gronckle to change direction on demand.
Considering they also eat rocks, they could also use metal catalysts to convert food into usable bouyancy, similar to the dragons from A Fantasy Made Real.
Deadly nadders are definitely my favorite dragon they are so fun
Nadders are Sharp and Tracker Classes. Some species can be in 2 classes at a time, just like the Submaripper who is Tidal and Tracker.
I don’t think a deep sea dragon tracks stuff
Plus most of the trackers are pretty active the submariner was just chilling until the water was disturbed

Also that's information directly from DreamWorks everyone on the Fandom knows Submarippers are 2 class cause they say so it's not an opinion I put out for people to argue on I am sharing a fact.

I only made an account recently, but I've been watching this channel for ages and I love your HTTYD videos ;) My personal headcanon is that Nadder spikes/quills are modified scales, the same way porcupine quills are modified hairs. This is an really interesting theory. I would of put the similarities with the Deadly Nadar with the Arizona Jumping Cactus. The jumping cactus have little balls of needles that can fire at creatures that approached the main plant. If you accidentally kicked a rock against it or near it. The cactus does a spring like action and fires balls of spikes at an estimated 25 mph and boy do they hurt.

It’s so adorable that your cat’s name sounds like you named it a cute version of “mouse” in a slavic language. XD
He forgot that deadly nadder spines are poisonous, as said in legands, but it's probably not poisonous to reptiles because stormfly hit a seashocker with it's spines and wasn't poisoned.

Secondly: Thank you! Thank you for either having general knowledge or doing your research! I have worked in a Zoo for 6 years, and one of the animals we do presentations on is the North American Porcupine, and everytime I hear a parent tell their child to stay away because "they can shoot their quills", I get a little annoyed and then have to inform them they cannot. Porcupines are actually pretty soft as long as they aren't angered and you pet them the right way!
Thirdly: Wonderful theory! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought about a Nadder's quill like such! Keep up the good work and best of luck!

Hey Scarzie! It was interesting. I didn't even know that the porcupine shooting quills thing was a myth until I read up on them. I read it thinking, 'do people really believe that?' It's never been a thing where I live as far as I know.

Another really good Method Of A Deadly Nadder attacking is if it's flying upwards it can spin and set spikes flying in all directions.

As far as i know there's also a type of tarantula that can actually shoot hairs (which irritate the skin) from their front legs when threatened so maybe they also took a bit of inspiration from that?

it is also said that Nadder spines have venom inside them or they have venom on another part of it’a body.
Don't worry about us, we'll wait for you, just focus on your exams.
One problem, astrid falls off a cliff and stomfly whacks her tail into the cliff with the spikes raised and the tail sticks there, then astris climbs up the raised spikes on the other side if stormfly’s tail like a ladder, in your theory, surely the force of her jumping onto the spikes would dislodge them and she would plummet to her death. Im not sure exactly which episode this is but it might be around the end of defenders/ the start of edge

Pre-watch theory- the tail spikes of the nadder might be modified scales. We know at least some dragons shed scales and skin, ash showed in race t the edge and the first movie, plus, these are dragon we are taking about. Giant bird lizards of which many could not realistically support their own weight and can SHOOT FIRE FROM THEIR NIPS

It’s said how a deadly nadder’s spikes are poisonous, if you are wondering where in the book of dragons special gobber says something about staying clear of a nadder’s tail because it’s full of poisonous spikes. We never actually get information on the level of toxins in the spikes, nor do we ever see the effects of a nadder spike wound.
