    Great greenhouse and lovely video! Don't worry about Paraiso "reverting" - their variegation depends on temperature + light. So you can expect it in summer to have beautiful variegated leaves, and in winter - green leaves :)

    This video has been one of the best to lose myself in beautiful, lush, green growth...we are sitting here in Tuscany with another winter storm coming in, temperatures falling, wind blowing around my poor frosted garden...and yet I can dream of the warmer, better times through your great photography and chat! No problem with the exposure of this episode, either...it's seeing that greenhouse in all its glory that we love...so please keep it going! We'll be sitting right there with you!

    In the summer, I use a "screenhouse" . I just put mosquito netting on the frame of the greenhouse (I take off the plastic cover). This protects them, from too much wind, pests critters, but they still benefit from the rain and airflow, and unlikely to get overheated like they would in a greenhouse. Our winters are way too cold for them to stay outside. (St. Louis, MO, usa) I have many simple design ideas about homes where plantcare would be easier.

    I also cut alocasia flowers of as soon as I can! I’ve learned that cutting them makes the plant stay more compact, because they spread out the leaves to give light to the flowers, not sure if it’s true tho😁
    My greenhouse is under my balcony so it doesn’t fly away with the wind or gets crushed by the snow😆 love that I can watch you have summer when its freezing over here🤩

    if you have a home smart system then that could get weather information from the internet, plus your sensors in the greenhouse. then you can setup rules to decide how the mister and what nor are running. It will either be expensive or you need to figure out and set up a lot yourself (or maybe you have a friend)
    We have a home smart system for our lights and my husband is constantly improving it, but he likes it and doesn´t mind to spend time on it. For example he has lights setup to turn on based of open doors and the time the sun rises/sets.

    Hey Jan , i follow you since a long time , i am from Belgium , i think there in Sydney it can get cold but not freezing as i see you have own a greenhouse , here in Belgium even with a greenhouse you would need to heath it to overwintering most of the tropical aroids, i believe they support minimum 10°C , i have no idee about climat in Australia , we here think it is very hot in the whole country but i presume de Southern side must be a little like in South Africa but not as we have here in Belgium , were i am is still the hottest of Belgium cos i am close to the see side and the see wind makes it little temperate as in landwards as the wind blows mostly from the west side , i have bought a greenhouse but i am afraid i would need a heather , i wish i lives in a more temperate region 😁 but yes humans a never satisfied , gras seems always greener by the Neighbours , so i believe i would have to keep all my plant collection in my living room 😅the problem is that i have accumulate my numbers in my collection that it be came to much , but never enough to me 🤣every time i say , O.K Carl , that's the very last one 🙄🤔🤪 time and time again , it started before covid with Orchids and than it progress to all other kind of aroids , and the lots of video's on RUclips , and than everything was kind of hopeless to find solvation hahahaha , yes i am hit by the virus , i did not knowing Covid had this countereffects 🤭 tanks for your share Bro 😉 i like it ❤❤

    Hello. I totally agree with you on the plant topic of Condition vs Care. Since a greenhouse is a controlled environment, the ideal would be to have an automated system that would regulate the conditions inside.
    Too hot, windows open and vice versa.
    Too cold, temperature rises and vice versa
    Too dry….. you get the idea
    This Winter I have more lights and I am switching some plants to PON. Since I do not want too much humidity I haven’t started my humidifier yet but instead, I put several containers filled with water around the place and so far no feeling of dryness and my hygrometer keeps oscillating between 60 and 65% humidity. Not too bad.
    Edit: can you do a plant car video for your rhipsalises

    I am only the crazy "burn it" type when it comes to mealy bugs because they are SO EFFING HARD to get rid of in certain plants. Just the thought of mealy bugs makes me want to puke lol. But with other pests, a good dunk in soapy water and some captain jacks dead bug will do!

    I think we need a video all about smelling for root rot. Come on. No one has done it, I’m sure. What does it smell like? Thanks for the video- I learn something EVERY time I watch you care for your plants. In this case, I’ve learned root rot has a special smell. Maybe you can train Brad to sniff it out.

    Super gorgeous greenhouse with such happy lush plants! I finally put mine together after several months of having it, it’s a used greenhouse. I needed the inspo and had to look at what you’ve done to get me started. Your misters are brilliant! Do you turn off the fan when you put on the mister.? Or do you not use the fan anymore?

    • @sydneyplantguy

      Important to keep the airflow up when using misters so it’s on 24/7. Make sure u get a waterproof one :)

    So from Trinidad and Tobago. It is not easy to source sphagnum moss here. We do get it but it's either in limited quantities or very expensive. I got some and made some moss poles; my babies have never looked better. The problem is when they outgrow the pole, I may not have any moss to extend. Is there anywhere you think I coulyd source the moss in larger quantities to import it into the island? US or UK preferably

    Do you have any help on screen while filming to check lighting, like a curve for lighting for example?? That always gives me some piece of mind, knowing whether I can fix lighting a bit in post. Around 20 minutes the over exposure does not bother me, the entire shot looks fresh and it gives you a bit of "angel lighting"... our plant savior😆🙇‍♂

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  10 месяцев назад

      I technically do but to get everything in frame my camera is so far away, i can’t see the screen anymore 😅 when filmkng outside it’s hard because the sun keepa coming out etc so exposure constantly changes… i let the camera do its thing 😅

    hi jan, i’ve been in love with ur greenhouse for as long as u had it it’s perfect. just one question: some plants in there seem to receive very low light and are shaded. does this affect ur growth in any way?

    Hi there from Canada you’ve probably said this before but I’m wondering how do you keep your moss poles moist? Do you put a cup on the top of each one or do you water it separately? Thanks so much.

    Thanks again for reminding everyone ( keep repeating for the newbies) the difference between care and conditions and the importance of identifying the cause and effects of said conditions and getting to know each plant to be an effective grower.
    The misinformation coming from the big box store plants like Calathea " great beginner plant" or not even an ID just an esthetic vibe this plant will bring your space, huh? Then dont even get me started on the rediculous plant aps that supposedly set your plant chore schedule and magically tell you what your plant needs. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of being a plant parent if you're just relying on a screen time babysitter, don't you think? That might make a fun video, debunking a plant app or finding what value or accuracy one could bring?
    On a different note, the CCS instructions say to be careful not to get on leaves as it may deform them. I use CCS in all the ways you described, except in a sprayer for fear it would get all over. Maybe a close up shot of your spraying technique?? Great value in your content as always.😻

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  10 месяцев назад +2

      Haha those plant apps are so cringey :D I try (not very hard) to not get it on the leaves but definitely can't fully avoid it and haven't noticed any issues ... suppose the misters will wash the leaves very shortly after anyway so maybe that's why I haven't noticed any issues.
