I spent several years working at Trophy Miniatures and it's very probable that I painted that set. The majority of them did pass through my hands. It was a pleasant surprise to see this pop up on my feed.

My Dad and I watched Zulu annually for roughly 20 years up until the year he died from cancer. He would have loved this video and envious of your Dad. I’m not ashamed to admit that your touching words to your father at the end of the video brought tears to my own eyes
I used to watch this all the time as a kid with my father its what made me join the British army 😂. Keep strong and your father would be proud of you and is always with you ❤

my dads favourite film and would watch it every time it came on the TV. when we were kids, to keep us quiet when it was on, he would tell us to look out for the zulu with the gold watch, and if we found him, we would get a quid off him. so every time it was on, we sat quietly watching it. even if our mates were over, we all sat quietly, trying to find the zulu with the gold watch. after he died, zulu came on and as usual, us kids would sit down and try and find the zulu, to which mum, whilst crying and laughing, told us that it was dads joke to get us to be quiet when it was on, and there was no zulu with the gold watch. we all pissed our selves laughing/crying as dad had gotten one over us that we would never be able to repay. many years later, i still sit watching the film, remembering dad, with my own child, watching my favourite film. hope this did not bore anyone but wanted to share. great content.

Zulu remains one of the most visually stunning films ever. Brilliant cast and everything elevated to other-level due to the (mostly) true story. It holds up to any cgi project, and is firmly a classic. This set is amazing. Both in concept and quality of execution, and this particular one for its completeness. I got Zulu (as well as Zulu Dawn) on blu ray a few years ago and.... yeah I was captivated by those movies. I really wish something like this set was available today.
What an outstanding video Tony. Those are STUNNING miniatures and sets, and it is great to know that the attention to detail and historical accuracy is present on this set. I have a few friends that are retired military that would quote Zulu, and that lead me down the history rabbit hole of the history of this battle, and the production of the movie.

Outstanding video. I am English and have watched and loved Zulu for many years. It inspired me to dig into the history of the events itself. And I was shocked to learn about the massacre that had preceded it. Over confidence on out part with the Zulus and our Empires soldiers being capable of dealing with anything. The publicity at the time and the military defeat was a shocking upset, and the Rorke's Drift action and events were used to help cover up the scale of the disaster. It was used as a positive event and told over and over in a light that would portray the English as being superior etc, but we were very nearly defeated here as well. All the arguments about Empire aside it was a shock for the establishment and only the heroic soldiers at the outpost prevented another massacre that would have serious repercussions for the Government and Military back in in England. These days I get so tired of seeing the British Empire portrayed in a bad light by modern day media, as we did a lot of good at the time. Preventing local wars, bringing medicine etc and outlawing and abolishing slavery, the first nation to do so, and the Royal Navy helped to police and stop it continuing. They never like to mention that in Universities these days...

As far as I’m concerned the British empire did more good than bad in their entire history. The British empire ended human slavery in every country they colonized. Also they brought protection to women and children where they never had any rights whatsoever. I am of the opinion that all large nations go through an Empire building stage of unchecked expansion at some point. Its in our nature to build, spread out and...yes take and control to a degree as well. Compared to most Empires we were not mindless killers that destroyed everything in sight, but wanted to build and make good where we had a presence. You only have to look at Hong Kong, now compared to when we had custody of it and it was a free and open city with equal rights etc....now China are clamping down and ending all of this. Anyway, here in the Uk we still have a great fondness for places like Africa and India especially and still do what we can to help. Its just a shame that some like to twist things rather than see the good as well. Thank you for your kind response.

My father loved this film and his love and passion was passed to me (I am the same age as the film) Sadly I lost may father early this year and he would have loved this. We always talked about the 1879 war and my treasured memory is visiting the Royal Welsh Regimental Museum in Brecon with my dad spending a few hours in the Zulu room. Thank you for bring such fond memories back to me.

Wow! This is an amazing miniatures set! "Zulu" is still one of my favorite war films which captivated me from the first time I saw it as a small child. I was so happy that years later the Zulu war chant from the film was used in the opening Roman battle scene at the beginning of the film "Gladiator". Ridley Scott confirmed that the Zulu war chant was indeed used, and my ears did not deceive me.
I can see these being very popular like miniature train sets. But sadly for a previous era. Toys like these are amazing though, I even have some Knight ones. There’s a beyond an amazing place in Victoria BC (the island and city) that’s under the Empress Hotel (looks like a legit castle) that would blow your mind and has been open over 50 years called Miniature World. It is mostly the small scale train sets, but have displays of large scale re-enactments using I’m sure these types of models. It’s huge and just blows your mind going through it. One of the neatest places I’ve ever been to. You can be marveling at these gigantic displays and subtly the lights will cycle from a day to night and backgrounds change, streetlights come on, or in the castles interiors lights. It’s just nuts. The story part you showed is hard for me though, even as an American. But I guess that’s just history and honestly the way things have always been regardless of race, color, creed, location, or era. Etc etc. cheers bro!

Wow Great set!! in 1989 my dad buyed a set of Rorke Drift of Esci battlesets 1/72 with terrain soldiers and accesories., very great these old battlesets.
I cant find the words....i grew up with this movie, today, i have several books on the subject, i had begun collecting reproduction bits,such as the 24th SWB belt and buckle, tunic, and sphinx badge, but, divorce cost me everything. Nice to see others have the same interest in this event, it makes the loss of my collection easier to accept
Stunning video Tony. Being a classic film buff in addition to a toy collector, I had heard of Zulu before this video, but I wasn't privy to any of the historical tidbits, at least not to the level I am now having watched this video. I can tell this came from the heart and while I had no passing interest in toy soldiers, the craftsmanship of these miniatures are incredible given their scale. Did they ever make any Action Man outfits like the soldiers at Rorke's Drift? I would assume so, but you of all people would know.

Wow! This is an amazing miniatures set! "Zulu" is still one of my favorite war films which captivated me from the first time I saw it as a small child. I was so happy that years later the Zulu war chant from the film was used in the opening Roman battle scene at the beginning of the film "Gladiator". Ridley Scott confirmed that the Zulu war chant was indeed used, and my ears did not deceive me.
Saw the film in 1963 at the theater. Was memorized by it. An Awesome film. Watch it every year. It deserves a 4K release.
What an excellent set, super quality. I never had these, but I did have an assortment of W Britain's offerings.
I can see these being very popular like miniature train sets. But sadly for a previous era.
Toys like these are amazing though, I even have some Knight ones.
There’s a beyond an amazing place in Victoria BC (the island and city) that’s under the Empress Hotel (looks like a legit castle) that would blow your mind and has been open over 50 years called Miniature World. It is mostly the small scale train sets, but have displays of large scale re-enactments using I’m sure these types of models. It’s huge and just blows your mind going through it. One of the neatest places I’ve ever been to.
You can be marveling at these gigantic displays and subtly the lights will cycle from a day to night and backgrounds change, streetlights come on, or in the castles interiors lights. It’s just nuts.
The story part you showed is hard for me though, even as an American. But I guess that’s just history and honestly the way things have always been regardless of race, color, creed, location, or era. Etc etc.

Tony, you've made some great videos over the years, but this is right up with the very, very best. This set is incredible, the attention to detail is stunning, as is your knowledge of the set and the history of the battle and the film Zulu. It is so lovely that you can share this hobby with your father. 👏

Wow Great set!! in 1989 my dad buyed a set of Rorke Drift of Esci battlesets 1/72 with terrain soldiers and accesories., very great these old battlesets.

I cant find the words....i grew up with this movie, today, i have several books on the subject, i had begun collecting reproduction bits,such as the 24th SWB belt and buckle, tunic, and sphinx badge, but, divorce cost me everything. Nice to see others have the same interest in this event, it makes the loss of my collection easier to accept
Wish l was still a kid in the 70s playing with all my toy soldiers, cherished memories.

Stunning video Tony. Being a classic film buff in addition to a toy collector, I had heard of Zulu before this video, but I wasn't privy to any of the historical tidbits, at least not to the level I am now having watched this video. I can tell this came from the heart and while I had no passing interest in toy soldiers, the craftsmanship of these miniatures are incredible given their scale.
Did they ever make any Action Man outfits like the soldiers at Rorke's Drift? I would assume so, but you of all people would know.
Surprisingly Palitoy never made an Action Man version of a Rorke’s Drift soldier. It’s one of the biggest misses in the whole line!
