He had committed no crime except for being a Kulak. ((Ukrainian peasant) His younger brother was shot , in the late 1940s for distributing pro democratic literature.. By this time my dad had settled in England , after fighting with the Polish forces, against the Nazis in North Africa and Italy (Monte Casino). He was not to hear from his parents for another 10 years. Stalin murdered millions of Ukrainians < indeed he murdered millions from other subject nations, afte4r which time he settled many Russians in the areas of Ukraine denuded of its native population- There are great historical parallels with the American treatment of Native American populations. He was there unashamedly, with hat in hand, despite the buried story from some months back that 17 million pounds of military aid, donated by the UK a few months before, had just 'disappeared' without a trace. No inquiry. No investigation. No request from the UK to uncover the whereabouts of that donation. Nothing. It was as if it never happened, and Zelensky was still being paraded around and championed and showered with more millions, no questions asked.

It wasn't just the Bush invasion of Iraq, but also the bombing of Serbia before that, that made me realise the mainstream media was not being very honest and they were pushing a government agenda. This is not the same media that was more open during the Vietnam war. Funny thing is during the invasion of Iraq, I never heard the media mention "Unprovoked". But since the war in Ukraine that word is often heard. I would say the Russian invasion of Ukraine was "very provoked" by NATO and by Ukraine itself, in attacking the Russian speaking people of Donbas.

It's important to remember there are different types of journalism. The job of a reporter on the field is to tell people what is happening, not what he wants them to believe. An opinion columnist however can try to persuade or influence public opinion.

During the Vietnam war , the first casualty of war was truth. Embedding newspaper reporters with the small army units was the most clever way preventing them from getting the over all picture of the war if they were allowed freely to investigate on their own as traditionally in previous wars. Since then all news on foreign wars was controlled and propagandized.

Because independent journalists that have been reporting from the front lines in Donbas for the last 8 years, are all banned from western media. Some even have been prosecuted - Alina Lips in Germany for example among others. There is no such thing as free speech in the west anymore. It may be dishonest but it’s nothing compared to the many examples of atrocity propaganda I’ve seen over the years. A totally fictitious news story resulted in more than 1 million children dying in Iraq. We interdicted the chlorine that Iraq needed to treat their drinking water. Mass dysentery ensued. This happened because Americans failed to hold their leadership in government and media accountable. Nothing has changed. 💯 I’ve discussed this with educated, some highly degreed, and for the most part, they believe whatever the mainstream media says even when the story doesn’t add up.
They did a study on this and actually found that less educated people were actually MORE likely to be open minded IF the information actually came from a trusted source. They are much more likely to be skeptical of sources, but thats kind of the opposite of what we are usually told.

He was arrested as a political prisoner for being unable to grass up his neighbours for non existent transgressions.. This apparently made him an enemy of the Soviets. He was 18. He had committed no crime except for being a Kulak. ((Ukrainian peasant) His younger brother was shot , in the late 1940s for distributing pro democratic literature.. By this time my dad had settled in England , after fighting with the Polish forces, against the Nazis in North Africa and Italy (Monte Casino). He was not to hear from his parents for another 10 years. Stalin murdered millions of Ukrainians < indeed he murdered millions from other subject nations, afte4r which time he settled many Russians in the areas of Ukraine denuded of its native population- There are great historical parallels with the American treatment of Native American populations. This happened to the grandparents of Ukrainians now fighting against a russia which,on its own, internal Russian tv admits its genocidal intent in Ukraine.

A perfect example of this is the Zelensky 'fundraising' visit to the UK last week. He was there unashamedly, with hat in hand, despite the buried story from some months back that 17 million pounds of military aid, donated by the UK a few months before, had just 'disappeared' without a trace. No inquiry. No investigation. No request from the UK to uncover the whereabouts of that donation. Nothing. It was as if it never happened, and Zelensky was still being paraded around and championed and showered with more millions, no questions asked.

It wasn't just the Bush invasion of Iraq, but also the bombing of Serbia before that, that made me realise the mainstream media was not being very honest and they were pushing a government agenda. This is not the same media that was more open during the Vietnam war. Funny thing is during the invasion of Iraq, I never heard the media mention "Unprovoked". But since the war in Ukraine that word is often heard. I would say the Russian invasion of Ukraine was "very provoked" by NATO and by Ukraine itself, in attacking the Russian speaking people of Donbas.

It's important to remember there are different types of journalism. The job of a reporter on the field is to tell people what is happening, not what he wants them to believe. An opinion columnist however can try to persuade or influence public opinion.

During the Vietnam war , the first casualty of war was truth. Embedding newspaper reporters with the small army units was the most clever way preventing them from getting the over all picture of the war if they were allowed freely to investigate on their own as traditionally in previous wars. Since then all news on foreign wars was controlled and propagandized.

I'd argue some people lose their direction when they start listening to Chris. He is such a foil and a check on mainstream media sometimes it confuses people. Making Ukraine out to be the bad guys is a prime example.

Chris Hedges is a real journalist...but he is also a real listener. He has opinions but understands that other people might have opinions to. That is why his audience are faithful to his programme ... and his guests.
As was once said after the Viet Nam war: "Once we lost Walter Cronkite, we lost the war." It was because of the war correspondent's reporting (then and after) that the US military took it upon themselves to limit the availability of reporters in the field of action. The truthful commentary along with the staggering visuals (Morely Schaeffer watching the US Marines burning down a village and the occupants crying) made the reporter's job exceedingly easy: There was no need to proselytize, convince, or lie. It was all out there in open.
And why I opposed the war, burning the village was criminal. Oliver' Stone Movie was true to reality, Platoon was really good as a movie to watch.
But media nowadays are owned by the rich whom are bribed to push for agendas whether it's vaccines, or freedom to Ukraine to sell more arms, or climate change to fool western societies to accept higher energy and food prices and to protect the planet!

How is that others journalists from outside the USA are in Ukraine and are reporting what is really happening. But those reports are not seen in USA.
Because independent journalists that have been reporting from the front lines in Donbas for the last 8 years, are all banned from western media. Some even have been prosecuted - Alina Lips in Germany for example among others. There is no such thing as free speech in the west anymore. That’s the “western democratic values” that everyone is so proud of here in the west.

I recently had an argument with a friend (likely former friend now) about the nature of the war. After I pointed out all his misconceptions he started yelling at me " why don't you go live in Russia! We don't want you here!".
I then concluded we are pretty much in a fascist state situation.

I was in Kuwait during all the conflicts there. I relate to your story. I was 13yrs old and went through the deserts as a refugee until my government picked me and my family up. Please keep up your good reporting. In these difficult times there needs to be truth and proper honest reporting and not a narrative . This whole thing is to prolong the conflict . But at what cost . Why cant the US be a beacon of peace..and not this in the name of democracy which is in fact the will of its people or is it now..

Point being, it's complicated...but I feel that humanity should be smart enough to not have to resort to shooting war of any kind...it seems so simple as many sci-fi stories have described, turn killing war into some kind of sporting competition (Robots, VR, ect.), and poof, the horror is gone...there would still be conflict, for we are a conflicted species, but at least we could get rid of the barbarism...but even that is not so simple as there would have to be a global educational system to educate all people in the possible alternatives via negotiation and the understanding of the circumstances that cause war in the first place...

This is well known to us and a point of humor. I’m pretty sure you can still find “behind the scenes” footage from that time on RUclips. It’s really funny, in my opinion. It may be dishonest but it’s nothing compared to the many examples of atrocity propaganda I’ve seen over the years. A totally fictitious news story resulted in more than 1 million children dying in Iraq. We interdicted the chlorine that Iraq needed to treat their drinking water. Mass dysentery ensued. This happened because Americans failed to hold their leadership in government and media accountable. Nothing has changed. If anything, we are more idiotic then ever before, while government has become even more tyrannical.

They did a study on this and actually found that less educated people were actually MORE likely to be open minded IF the information actually came from a trusted source. They are much more likely to be skeptical of sources, but thats kind of the opposite of what we are usually told.
