So great live. I for one love how he changes it up when he's on tour and doesn't sound exactly like the album. Makes it more raw and real. Love seeing him live. 65+ and still entertaining the crowd. So much fun!
I'm Dave's age and suffer from various health issues but even if I were in the best condition I could never do what he does. The Man is just such great condition, although I dare think he may have some lurking health issues himself. How can he not? He partied hard for over 20 years. I sincerely hope he is OK and lives another 20 years. We just lost Eddie. We can't lose Dave.
I’m in my mid 50’s. Throughout the late 70’s and most of the eighties DLR was the king of rock. He must be around 65+ and he’s still rocking. Give the man the respect he deserves. Getting old happens to everyone that doesn’t die young. No stopping it.
Most performers have enough sense to call it quits at some point when they do get old, so they don't go on stage sounding terrible, balding and dressed like Harley Quinn.
Roth was never known as a great singer but rather a great entertainer (which he was). But listening to Dave vs. Sammy Hagar or any other singer who is in the 65+ year old range (Sammy is in his 70's and sounds great), there is a big difference. I'm not trying to hate on Dave (his era of VH is my favorite) but he is past his prime as far as singing goes.
I don't know what some people expect, but Dave sounds like he always has live. I love him. Have for years, and am super happy he's still out there killin it with a kick ass band!

I disagree. Dave sounded great pre 86. Early on in VH he was spot on. Sure VH had some hardcore boozing shows, but Dave was powerful and raw and there was nothing that could touch his presence. I still love the guy. I will go see him anytime I can. However, his voice has steadily been going downhill for a number of years. I thought he sounded his best in a long time on the 07 reunion tour.
Glad to see Dave can still do it. This sounds good for Dave's live standards. Much better that the performances I saw recently. And let's face it, the guy still has a ton of charisma. Getting older is terrible but eventually it's happening to all of us. You want your heroes to stay forerever young but I can live with this. I would like Dave to do a bluesy album.
Nice job!! To all the critics, just sit back and enjoy. Think about the good ol days when these guys brought it. So lets pay homage to Dave for going on stage and giving us this memorable treat. I write with my left hand, kick a ball with my right foot, and I'm a Drummer, It's so good to see an open handed percussionist on a right handed kit. Not many of us on the planet play the drums that way, Faith No More's "Mike Bordin" Legend and so underated, plays like I do, I'm in my late 50's now, I remember my Dad noticed Mike on the kit in the video for Epic when I was much younger, pointed out how Mike played and said, "Hey Son", he plays exactly the same way as you", Dad was a drummer and would freak when he'd watch me play. Being real isn't hating. I love VH, but this isn't VH. I gotta say his band is tight, but Dave's vocals are buried in the mix for a reason. No doubt he was one of the best front men in his day, and I'm glad he's healthy and happy. But now he's the old guy at the club, and that's not how I want to remember anyone from that epic band.

Oh my. I just don't know what to make of this. I used to be a huge Van Halen fan and saw them in 84 and I know we all age. But this is kind of talent show level material. I think the reality is that he blew out his voice a long time ago . There are ways to age gracefully as a rockstar. David Coverdale can still sing but he was always an amazing singer to begin with. And the lead singer of Queensryche took the smart route and went acoustic .

I was afraid to watch this after hearing how horrible Dave has sounded lately. But I was pleasantly surprised. He's singing in more of his speaking voice like he used to, not like the monotone high-pitched shrill voice I've heard from him lately. Band and backup vocals sound great.
Backup vocals sounded great because it's a layer of him, his guys, and isolated vocal tracks from the original studio Van Halen recordings. Notice how there isn't a VH song on this setlist that WASN'T on the VH Guitar Hero Video Game. He used isolated vocal tracks that someone online a long time ago had ripped off the GH game disc and uploaded to RUclips and pumped the tracks through the speakers at this show and all the KISS shows.

I can't wait til August 29th I'm going to see him with Kiss in Atlanta. I'm so happy! He's such a legend there will never be a frontman who will ever come close to his awesomeness and energy.

It’s good to see there are more than I expected that enjoyed the show. I personally think it was better as his voice got a little warmed up. The backing tracks are a big help to him and let’s them do the heavy lifting. Dave’s getting old, but that’s ok, we all will if we’re blessed. I would imagine Gene must have laid down the law with Dave, and asked for a better effort than he has been giving in Vegas. This certainly is a step or two above what we have gotten from DLR. While still not stellar, it is definitely an improvement. Band is awesome!!

I dunno man, I have played for years and he is good but he is no EVH...If you listen closely a lot of his bends are off pitch and he skips alot of notes but im a guitar player and I hear those things...Don't get me wrong he is no slouch, I would definitely go see them, I think now that Dave is actually singing the songs right instead of clowning around like he did with VH it makes up for anything the band lacks..I wish he would have sang like that with VH!!! But back then the Columbian snowstorm had everyone a little hyperactive...lol

cdreyes81 yep, you’re right. But in recent years this singer was intentionally vocalizing at a range that was unattainable. Watch the footage from his Vegas residency. Regardless of his age, these first gigs with KISS clearly show there was some form of intervention and he is sounding much better.
Dave still has a lot to say. Van Halen is doing nothing and Dave needs to be doing his thing. That band sounded good, and I hope he can find success somewhere.

The band is fantastic! And Dave is mostly "singing" instead of trying to scream those high notes that he can't hit anymore. This is one of the better performances I've seen of DLR in 20 years.

@@mikeriesco6174 Dave barely sang half of the words in the early 80's with VH, at the height of their powers. Those performances are praised as "incredible." Now he tries harder, sings many more of the words, and sounds pretty damn good and idiots say ignorant shit like "not like it used to be."
I've always said if he kept it where it was recorded, he'd be pretty much just as good as the record.
I noticed that he has a lot of backing tracks even with the back ground singers on the stage. You can hear his voice mixed into the tracks.

In 07 he still pretty much sang like Dave. In 12 it was like "uhhh ohhhh". This isn't half bad.

It’s good to see there are more than I expected that enjoyed the show. I personally think it was better as his voice got a little warmed up. The backing tracks are a big help to him and let’s them do the heavy lifting. Dave’s getting old, but that’s ok, we all will if we’re blessed. I like to remember all of those great shows from the old days I saw, such great memories. R.I.P. to the GOAT Edward Van Halen 🙏🎸

Better than expected. Dave sounds decent & the band is tight. All the hits too. A plus that Dave isn't going off on his usual long winded tangents.

I would imagine Gene must have laid down the law with Dave, and asked for a better effort than he has been giving in Vegas. This certainly is a step or two above what we have gotten from DLR. While still not stellar, it is definitely an improvement. Band is awesome!!

Dave snuck in a roundhouse kick before his body realized what he pulled off at the beginning of "Ain't Talki' Bout Love" haha... sounding good for his age for the type of music he's singing and hopefully his hyper disposition stays in this vocal register and he'll be just fine

I dunno man, I have played for years and he is good but he is no EVH...If you listen closely a lot of his bends are off pitch and he skips alot of notes but im a guitar player and I hear those things...Don't get me wrong he is no slouch, I would definitely go see them, I think now that Dave is actually singing the songs right instead of clowning around like he did with VH it makes up for anything the band lacks..I wish he would have sang like that with VH!!! But back then the Columbian snowstorm had everyone a little hyperactive...lol

..watched the whole show, i was half amazed, and half bummed out. Dont get me wrong here, That man brought so much pleasure to the worlds ears from '78 to the late '90s.. and i get that hes 65 yrs old, god bless him. But damn, he can ruin a song pretty easily. cdreyes81 yep, you’re right. But in recent years this singer was intentionally vocalizing at a range that was unattainable. Watch the footage from his Vegas residency. Regardless of his age, these first gigs with KISS clearly show there was some form of intervention and he is sounding much better.

The band is fantastic! And Dave is mostly "singing" instead of trying to scream those high notes that he can't hit anymore. This is one of the better performances I've seen of DLR in 20 years.
