As the original is unobtainable (and if still, for very high prices) this unit is very welcome! No idea if it's anything like the original but it sounds very good to me.

Now I know what Stereolab used on the song "Diagonals" from the album Dots and Loops to get that wobbly, flangey effect on the drums. It's the Bode Frequency Shifter!

Some will undoubtedly confuse this with a ring modulator. While there ARE some sonic similarities, a frequency shifter does not employ sum and difference, but rather adds or subtracts a constant. So, a 400hz tone, shifted up by 100ohz would be 500hz, and its harmonics would be 900hz, 1300hz, 1700hz, and so on. As frequency is shifted, the harmonics become less and less "harmonically-related" to the fundamental and to each other. As the demo illustrates, however, there are far more possibilities with a frequency shifter than simple "boing" sounds.

  • @Rhythmicons

You shouldn't call your Moog clones the System 55 series. You should rename them the 900 series modules. The System 55 refers to a configuration of modules, a very flawed configuration.

Based on the demo it is a mediocre implementation with very audible signal bleed. I did not expect any better and I'm sure this would be enough for most fanboys. But it is very far from the sophisticated sound of the original design, and it also lacks features that modern frequency shifters offer. You get what you pay for.

@@pe00000001 I'm not sure of Behringer's calibration process and I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you don't have firsthand knowledge, either
The assertion that labor intensive manufacturing can't be scaled economically is absolutely false. I work in the electronics manufacturing industry and it's literally my job to streamline and scale labor-intensive calibration and testing processes
