Let’s be honest. Pereira has already came a LONG way from his first MMA fight. He’s training with Glover as well. He didn’t look the least bit nervous about a takedown vs Strickland. Then slept him with the same shot he slept Izzy with. Beautiful shot.

From another point of view: I think UFC was trying to establish Israel's "Chael". Pereira is the only one the audience believe can beat Adesanya. The whole promotion from UFC has been flawless in in this regard. They even showed Adesanya getting knocked out by Periera on the PPV. They put all their money in one basket and it paid off.

100% agree! But what's even more infuriating that he didn't even attempt to grapple or try for a take-down early onto to establish those as being very real threats in Alex's mind, the other thing was the way in which he was striking. he had very little head movement and little to no lateral movement, instead he pretty much just walked Alex down staying smack dab right in front of him and was constantly reaching out to play pattycake with Alex's lead hand more than he threw punches. If he was going to stand and bang with Alex, then he needed to take advantage of the his quickness and agility, jumping in landing as many punches as quickly as possible and then jump back outa the way of Alex's counter. He never tried to corral Alex by cutting off angles, instead Alex just kept backing up leading him down the primrose path, all along getting a feel for Sean's speed and lengths all the while setting up that deadly left hook - and wouldn't yah know it - Sean walked right the fuck into it! It wasn't just that he stupidly tried taking on one of the greatest kickboxers of all time, it was how awful he looked doing it. I saw some saying that he was looking good until he got rocked, but i have no clue what the fuck they're talking about. Sean did land a couple of decent punches, and was the aggressor for sure, but he looked slow immobile and never changed the angle of attack instead he just walked straight up down the middle , as if he were just looking to get knocked the fuck out! I mean, it is true that Sean's plan of attack wasn't inherently a bad one, and could/would work against many-many fighters - but not a guy like Alex. And anyone who's watched even just Alex's kickboxing highlights and/or his mma highlights would/should have fuckin known this. What was he fucking thinking?!

spot on Chael. Strickland not even feinting to go for any takedowns, or even doing a wee half-hearted one before making a full-on attempt later on in the round after some stand-up, just to confuse Pereira and put him out his rhythm, was really poor tactically by Strickland.

Difference in little gloves is many kickboxing and boxing styles exclusively rely on using the gloves to shell and shield from punches. People who try those techniques with little gloves are subject to being cracked when they don't think they can. Similar to a gi in BJJ or even some of the positions in sport BJJ (leg locks, open guard, etc.), you put yourself in a position you don't think you will be hurt in because of all your experience in your niche sport and get hurt. Little gloves favors movement based fighters who use head movement and footwork opposed to shelling and blocking punches.

Also, he has real power. He sort of seems like a wiser, more powerful version of Izzy. And he happens to have already beaten him twice... As you say, it's not like Izzy's gonna go out there and wrestle, is it? So it'll be a third kickboxing fight, just in the octagon. Not sure why the gloves or the ring would make much of a difference. This guy might very well represent the end of an era lol

@@taintedtj Have you watched Pereira's MMA fights though? He definitely has dealt with wrestling. I was surprised to learn he was actually doing MMA before Izzy...
In one of his early fights for a Brazilian MMA promotion, he almost submits a guy. (He actually ends up losing that fight, but if you watch it, you can see he is by no means defenceless on the ground...) I've been watching some of his fights in the UFC too, and he's definitely had to grapple.
To be honest, I take Izzy going on about it being MMA and not Kickboxing as really more a way to convince himself he can win, having already lost to the guy twice... It must be daunting to know the dude is coming and coming quickly.
I actually can't wait to see the fight, personally. If you watch their kickboxing fights, they were both really close. Of course he ended up getting clipped in the second fight, but the first fight there's an argument he actually won, similar to Max in the second Volk fight. And even the second fight, he was arguably beating Pereira up before he got clipped. Should be fireworks!!

Sean Strickland had already completed his role before the fight actually. It was he who openly told us the UFC's agenda, as if it were a foregone conclusion. He set the narrative and prophesied his own doom.
With the new generation of fighters training at dedicated mixed martial arts gyms the chance to see two former champions of the same discipline fight for a title is almost nonexistent. Even the crossover to MMA super fights will be extremely rare. The only one I can think of is Ngannou vs Fury. Canelo makes too much for the UFC and Rico Verhoeven doesn't want to learn grappling. Izzy vs Alex will be massive.
