    Congratulations! First American video about karate that I really enjoyed. No special techniques or special effects just pure karate with good tips.

    I am amazed at sensei Hotton's ability to generate such effective torque power output backed with his theory behind each movement and its application. A true teacher using the science behind the art, the interplay between the Yin and the Yang. Not throwing the baby out with the bath water but using analysis, application and synthesis of studying the old art, making it new again; embracing the Zen philosophy of the Enso circle, that of constantly evolving! Choice!

    This is absolutely excellent. As a teacher myself, who runs my own programs, it's easy to see I'm outdone by this gentleman when it comes to technique.
    As for the applications to the kata, I'm primarily Tang Soo Do, and I always browse around for great applications to the same form (TSD derived from Shotokan of course). This is a very useful video. You have extraordinary speed and "snap"! I'd enjoy more videos from yourself. Hope you still prosper in martial arts sir!

      you may say so but in that stance nothing will work naturally and will be very hard or almost imposible to pull it off.

    • @USGrant-rr2by
      @USGrant-rr2by Год назад

      @@minasz There's a big difference between formal, technical training (this,katas) and actual free application. Ever see Lyoto Machida in UFC. He's a 6th Dan in Shotokan. His style is what Shotokan looks like at the highest levels of free application of the style. Very effective!

    I'm currently learning Pat Sai Dai (our pronunciation of this kata's name) and my sensei recommended I watch these videos. I really appreciate how clear you have made the bunkai of the techniques. Knowing or being able to visualize what I'm doing has helped better my performance of them. Thank you very much!

      You might want to check the complete bunkai ( ruclips.net/video/MY48Y49Sz5s/видео.html ) by David Gimberline as well. He's another good sensei of Shotokan school. You can check his bunkai for other shotokan karate katas at the official RUclips channel of Shuhari Institute.

    When you are changing directions you are doing movements 6 and 7 with your left left leg, why?, it is suppose to be done with the right leg. Is this a new version of the kata or just a simple human error or a new wy to see this part ?

    Sensei if you don't mind then while doing the second turning stance of zenkutsu dachi you back leg is slightly bented which is not proper try to improve it....🧐

    • @shotokankarate9690
      @shotokankarate9690  2 года назад

      so at a beginning level I was taught that the back leg was locked out in order to brace any motion to the front however after 20years or so the rear leg is slightly bent but through practice has developed the stress pattern in the muscle fiber to substantiate the forward support. This then allows the hip to find a more level plane and connect to the internal dynamics/tension of the stance. Interestingly, the look of your karate changes as the practice evolves.

    I like this guy, but I do not like the way his heel move backward when he is blocking forward. For me, it is fundamental, my entire body should be moving toward the target. Would you punch a very dangerous guy while moving my back foot backward ? I would not

    • @gweedoe5209
      @gweedoe5209 8 лет назад +3

      +alain martin - I think this is just a vain attempt on your part to demonstrate some superiority as a practitioner of Shotokan Karate. Sensei Hotton's technique is extraordinary in every detail. I only wish I were still in his Dojo. I look forward to seeing your videos here on RUclips ... or anywhere for that matter.

    • @tonybenevides134
      @tonybenevides134 5 лет назад

      Everyones Body is designed to do different things, to think that we should all look a like and not have to make adjustments is a poor understanding of the martial arts. I know in Japan they push for that everyone should do it exactly the same, but do you really think LeBron James and danny devito should look the same when doing Bassai Dai? If you study your precepts, you will also notice the comment about stances. Some advanced students can't do low stances when they practice, it's called old age, so they need to modify what they do. Watch Kanasawa do his kata, knees are never out on his horse stance. this doesn't make him wrong, just modifying for his body type.
