I've inherited a ptz poe hikvision ip camera and an 8 port poe switch. I wired this up to my router but the device isn't showing up on my network when i check online. I cant access the camera. I want to be able to see the camera stream in my broswer, but first i need to find the camera on the network. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong. (I have no previous experience with ip cameras, so any advice is appreciated).
Hello, Streaming it through your browser will require that you do port forwarding. An easier way to see the camera in your network is to install a VMS on a PC connected to your network and search for the camera on the VMS. You can download the VMS at Hikvision website for this. When all connections are well in place, you should find your camera online
But your router must have PoE or your camera's won't get any power, unless of course they came with their own power supply which then means running a lengthy power cable from your nearest socket to the camera.
The Cameras are Non-POE Cameras and cannot be directly powered through an Ethernet cable even though the POE switch is capable of providing the required power. So yes it is necessary to use the POE Splitters.
Hello, Can I connect wireless IP cameras to my laptop the same way you did in this video ? (they're full WIFI only cameras, with no POE or RJ45 slot) Cheers!
Hello, You can connect them to your laptop. See the example in the video link i share below. its one camera but you can add many more of them. ruclips.net/video/4IPRGKjxlYw/видео.html
Thanks very much for the video Please my question is, is there any reason for putting the cable connected from Poe switch to another Poe splitter than connecting it to the camera directly
Yes, the reason is that the camera is a Non POE camera, whereby it cannot be powered directly through the ethernet port. Its power must be taken through the dc terminal.
Can we connect an Wifi enabled IP Camera to our laptop directly using VMS or without an VMS and without an NVR if the IP camera is Connected to the WIFI Network?
No, you cannot. It is the router that generates the IP addresses for the network devices ie laptop and any device connected to the network. The router also serves as the gateway to the network.......... i will do a video to very well explain this point. That will give much clarity
can the connection to cams be made without the poe splitter? that is i would just plug the cam into poe switch - then plug my 12v into the cam. and can a regular none poe switch work the same way?
in this setup, i noticed since the poe switch could power up the non-poe cam, why should there be another power to the cam inclusive of the rj45 to the cam? Please explain to me.
The moment the Camera is Non POE, it can't be powered through the Ethernet jack of the cameras. That is why a POE splitter is used to separate the power that is being sent from the POE Switch whilst still sending videos over rj45. That means that the Rj45 for non POE IP cameras is responsible for only video
@@swaggst Yes, just get a 12v power to power the camera individually, meaning you get 4 power adapters for the 4 camera where in this case the switch has replaced the power with less work and a neat job.

POE ( power over Ethernet) simply means providing power through an Ethernet cable or Ethernet port. POE camera requires power which is only provided by a POE switch. The ports of a router cannot power up the POE cameras.
