@MsBurbie The Berryessa scene was filmed on September 27? I knew it was filmed at the exact location of the attack between 3:30 and 6:30pm according to Fincher so that the sunlight would be at the correct angle in the sky, but never heard that he did it ON September 27. I'm assuming it was in 2005 since it was the very first scene filmed for the movie.
At the lake herman road location someone had painted a zodiac symbol on a piece of the fence- you should be able to see it on my video of the location.
Fincher in his 07 movie "zodiac" filmed the Berryessa scene ON THE EXACT DAY AND TIME OF DAY as the actual attack of Hartnell & Shepard; so just watch that movie scene and you''' see what it would have looked like!
It is a little confusing but with a GPS you can nail it. Very cool location, the day I was there it was quiet and sort of creepy, just as I had expected it would be.
@MsBurbie I would think it would've been pretty warm still, as it doesn't really cool off here 'til toward the end of October...probably in the 80s at that time of day.
It's still a funky lake. I like ones that have tall trees, like Lake Tahoe. I wish the Russian River had water this time of year, but then again, in CA very few places have water around.
@wannawatchu66 This is what I read, yes, cannot now remember where I read it but yes, Fincher wanted to do it on the same date and time, had trees planted back on the peninsula (yes, merline23 is correct) as the original ones had died...he definitely went out of his way to re-create this scene, possibly in the hopes it would rekindle memories for new leads...not sure...
Is this the place where that young couple was atttacked by knife, and the guy survived? I read the book "Zodiac" recently. This was the most horrible of all Zodiac crimes, in my opinion. I was shocked as I read the story. A horrible crime perpetrated in a so beautiful place. Thanks for the post.
It's a shame the two young people did not have a firearm to defend themselves from the zodiac. Had they been able to defend themselves they could have stopped not only her death, but ended the serial killer's streak and prevented countless deaths.
Poor girl. Firearms to the general public should be banned. If the pathetic idiot who allowed his inner frustrations and hatred to manifest as killing fantasies made real had no easy access to a gun then he would have had a much more difficult time subduing and controlling two young and healthy people .
MSF, thank you so much for your videos. It feels erie to watch and recall the books descriptions. Again, thank you!!
Yeah this was shot in the spring, the water level was much lower in the fall when the murder occured.

MSF, what was the temperature like at the time you filmed? How cold would it have been for Hartnell & Shepard?

@merlin23 Yeah, it wasn't an island in September 1969, it was a peninsula. Zodiac was able to just walk out to where Bryan and Cecelia were.

What, did the killer swim out to that little island or something? I'm assuming that's where they were due to the focus on it.
merlin23 water levels were low

Yep that is the location where they were attacked by the zodiac with the hood on. Only the young man survived.
So wait the zodiac had to swim to them
Indeed.
The Killer only wore the costume one time! And like the wanted poster, they take the word of a young woman or a young kid?? Go figure!
