I'm a while off graduating, but currently in a double major with earth science and enviro science and these videos are amazing! Going to sign up to your online course 😊
@@GeologyUpSkill safety isn’t just for the geos, the offsiders are constantly there and nobody stopped the process when they saw something wrong. I’m not trying to insult your video or anything, I like the video but I have also experience in drilling and got a permanent disability because people didn’t care for safety! Great video anyway ❤️
This video is about the geologists job on the rig. The geologists on site must abide by the safety management system defined by the drillers. That is what is explained here. If the drillers judge that their equipment is safe to operate, then they are responsible for that decision. In this case, the drill program was completed without a hose failure so it is clear that their judgement was correct. I'm sorry to hear about your accident. There are no doubt numerous videos to be made about safety issues on drill rigs. I see you have made some yourself and I would be happy to make some also if the opportunity arises.
Hi sir Iam from Andhra Pradesh India Recently I had complete geologist course but I had no Idea what was going on this field abouts in this jobs please inform to me sir Thanks for the video appreciated
Are there any sensors that will record the mineral alteration of the rock chips that the geologist is looking for. It would remove bias as young geologists might finding alteration mineral mapping a challenge and also greatly speed up the whole process. For eg the sensor picks out the sericite alteration , the core logging geologist notes the recording and quickly becomes conversant in recognizing alteration mineral assemblages.
Yes. And sensors like that are becoming much more used in mine environments where the rocktypes and alteration facies are well understood. It's a little more tricky in exploration environments where you don't know what you are looking for and many of the clues are in textural relationships. For example, a muscovite schist and a sercite altered granite look like the same rock to a spectral scanner without any context. Once you know that they exist in the same project, you can train the scanner to recognise subtle differences to separate them.
Good to See...am Also handling DD and RC here in Congo.... The Negative thing about the RC is The Dusts...and Water coming from The Hole...Need to Bath againg and again..😂.... Still RC is cheaper and faster ..and for an immediate result me as a Geologist will prefer RC.
Worked on RC drill rig almost 2 yrs as a graduate geologist and it was the best opportunity to grow and career development
Yes, it's an opportunity to demonstrate your skills and attitude. If you impress on that first job, the next one will come to you.
Going on my first RC job as grad geo next month. Thanks for this intro.
I worked on a mineral sands RC rig when I was 17. I had no idea what was going on, but I worked my arse off.
As you do on that first RC job!
Nice work guys - great intro for new young geologists - I shall be pointing them in this direction in my sampling training courses!
Great. That's why we make them!

That's great Alex. I aim to help young geologists graduate a bit mor field ready than I was on my first day :)
Great video, really enjoying the series.
Thanks very much. I try to make the videos a little entertaining as well as informative. Geology can be fun!
Rock The Drill, thats the mantra. Thanks for the video appreciated.
Great info. thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Hope it helps a few new geologists hit the ground running.
I use to do this job
when he said " you'll be looking in the opposite direction of the drill hole ..." if you drill in the direction your looking ?
what did he mean ??
If the drill hole has a planned azimuth of 090 magnetic and you are sighting from the front of the rig, your compass should read 270 not 090!
If your sighting compass is any good it will have both numbers on the wheel i.e. 270 on top of 090.
Another thing to watch out for. When it's summer in the outback, every single insect will be on your bucket of water. Including bees and wasps
Good point!
Lets chase a rab rig for 6 months before you are even considered for RC. Good vid
Depends where you are. This rig is in Queensland. Outcrop is everywhere so no need for RAB, but I would like to make a video on RAB next time.
AWESOME"
Thanks!
It s really funny how you talk about safety and then you see the sample hose compressed and altered from its original form. XD
That's exactly why it's a no-go zone as the geo pointed out.

Suggest you watch this video. It outlines some of the options for a career in geology ruclips.net/video/lus-pRPpFok/видео.html
Most Geo's just want to sit in an office all day looking at their computer screen
If you stay in the office all day, you will most likely meet people who stay in the office all day!
@@GeologyUpSkill I'm field bro
I'm expert in this work I have 18 years of experience in this work if any job is available?
There are lots of jobs, but getting to Australia to take them is unfortunately difficult.

RC is hard to beat if you have a good handle on the geology already.
nice
Thanks!
I love the job I am doing I am a oparetor of drill rig
Choose a job that you love and you will never have to work a day in your life!
No where near as hard as the offsider getting the samples for the geo 😂😂
The offsider on this rig is actually a geologist!
@@GeologyUpSkill hi
Hello
People still log on paper in 2021? Haven't done that for years...
Change comes slowly when systems work well.
