Man, I was down to, probably, listening to these guys once or twice a year. But since you started listening to their debut, I've been playing them more and more. It's not like discovering a new band or sound, really, but I am more excited by their music than I've been in a long time.
I get so many things out of reaction videos, and reigniting my interest in, and sometimes even passion for, certain artists is one of them.
So, thank you for giving me these amazing gifts. It's fairly transformative for me. You point out things that you like, or even love, and it reminds me of what I heard in these artists that drew me to them in the first place. Your enthusiasm is very contagious.
My entire life has revolved around music, and now I have another outlet for my musical interests.
    How cool is that?
edit: Your ugly dog spiel made me think of the time my wife and me went to the Milwaukee County zoo to see the newly hatched baby vultures. My friends have been calling me Vulture since forever. I have a somewhat impressive collection of vultures. I wholly embrace the name.
Anyway, the zoo. We got to the vulture enclosure and were digging the babies, when the woman of a couple standing a short ways down the fence from us says to her companion, "Those are so ugly." I looked over at her and replied, "No, ma'am, they're beautiful." They gave us a very strange look and just walked away. My wife and me just laughed and laughed. More than twenty-five years later, it's still a running joke between us.

@KomodoDragon" The Gospel According To The Men In Black" happens to be my favourite Stranglers album. In fact, I learned only recently that it's also Hugh Cornwell's. Interesting backstory with that album. I love the subject matter too and they manage to convey a sense of futuristic otherworldliness. Every Stranglers album is different, but there's still no denying that it's them. I intend to recommend this to JP in the near future, as I agree, he needs to hear it!. Nice to see someone mention it!!! Cheers.

Since Christian Adams urges me to 😉, I quote again from the book: Hugh Cornwell - The Stranglers Song by Song 1974-1990.
"There's little structure to 'Ugly' and that's the reason I like it. It's free-form and the way John phrases the lyrics is very effective. If you see the words written down they're in sentences, but in fact the way he delivers them, the sentences are broken up. This whole song is John's. Mind you, some of the lyrics are a bit questionable. I don't know if he was being particularly serious. I suppose you can tell by the delivery on the vocals, that's it's tongue-in-cheek. When they're written down they look very sinister, but hearing it sung is very different. As time went on and we played it more, John convinced himself to sing it more seriously. Maybe he started believing it".
"For a start, John had read the poem 'Ozymandias' by Shelley, in which a statue is left in the desert, becomes covered by sand and is forgotten. Some of the lyrics have a real psychedelic element. They're humorous and have ambiguous meanings. Turning things on their heads and seeing if they look any different. 'Ugly' is full of this".
"I didn't have much to do on this one. Dave has a great solo and those 'wooooooo' noises come from my guitar feedback in the studio. John carried the rhythm with Jet, and I tried to get as much feedback as I could out of my amplifier. So it was very much free-form inthe middle."
"'Ugly' went down really well live. We used to played it three-quarters of the way through the set when we could go for broke and become anarchic musically. Journalist Chas de Whalley referred to us in a couple of reviews as 'Punk Floyd'. He used to say to us, "You're like the Floyd, but with more edge". "I loved it because I love early Floyd. It's very punk, very high energy."
"The lyrics suggest John is having a conversation with himself. It's like a continuous thought process. It's like automatic writing, but they're very subjective views. I hope in later life he would feel he was misguided. Somebody can look at another person and see beauty where other people can't. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and always has been."
"I suppose by the end he changes his position and tries to see things from all sides, which is quite self-analytical. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt here. A bit like my lyrics in 'Peaches', seeing things from different viewpoints and giving the whole picture."
"I know that some people have trouble with 'Ugly'. But as I said, a lot of what we were writing was to do with provocation and seeing how far we could go without being checked. When we used to make LPs that had two sides, there was always a moment halfway through side two where you could put anything you wanted. It was quite common to have an experimental track buried on side two, and that's exactly where 'Ugly' is."

Aww Justin, ALL animals are beautiful, he's a special little dog. Anyway, JJ Burnel is singing/growling on this fun track. In the band, he shares lead vocal duties with Hugh and there are a few tracks on their albums where Dave is singing! You can always tell it's JJ by the rougher vocal, however, he can sing softly too, for example the song "Don't Bring Harry", off the album "The Raven". A versatile singer! I don't know if you have the bonus tracks on this album but if you do, after "Down in the Sewer", check out "Go Buddy Go" [the b-side to the "Peaches"single], JJ's main vocal with Hugh singing the bridge. You'll see the difference then. "Go Buddy Go" is a great track, btw.

The Stranglers continue in this punkesk vibe for two and a half albums and then they change musically. Their third album, Black And White is the obvious turning point where one side the songs are still very punkish but the other side is more post punk keyboard driven vibe. The Raven (1979), their follow-up album is where the new musical approach really offers a better notion artistic statement. After that they have a series of less than fantastic releases. All containing a few great songs but not a full album worth of gems. Their 1985 album Aural Sculpture is to be their pinnacle, and should definitely be a full album listen; along with The Raven, if you're interested. Down In The Sewer is next and it is a great closer for the album. Being A School Mam from their next album No More Heroes is another equally awesome album closer. You'll probably enjoy that full album too.
