I'm a little late for this program , but delighted that there are at least SOME priests ON THE BALL with Catholic schools and education. God bless you ALL
One of the sure ways to lose your integrity is to allow and agree to dependency. This is more subtle than money, power, prestige as temptations to compromise to personal and institutional integrity. Then also remember René Girard's observation: Mimetic Desire. Sad.
Great Discussion. Agree with your description of the current situation and the mitigation that proper University chaplaincy might provide. However, Fr Brendan, I feel you would find it difficult to find more than 2 of your diocesan colleagues in agreement. The concept of sin or its consequences has become a taboo subject even in homilies. In fact the word has all but been eradicated from "church speak" and replaced with calling to mind our faults and failings.
I think a very big part of the problem is that the Catholic teaching of old has being changed to a modernism.. ie..Frankie's Vatican😮 anything goes really.. if you eradicate the need for forgiveness.. you eradicate the need for God.. ( it's kind of shocking but not really the amount of young teenagers who frankly give God not an once of taught
I watched this video with interest and a couple of things struck me. Fr Kilcoyne says that God will send a transformative figure to rejuvenate the Church. Perhaps he already has-Pope Francis-and you are all down on him. You also praise Jesuit education. Pope Francis is a Jesuit.
