I had a friend who hit rough patch that seemed to keep going. He was a self taught musician, Accordion, concertina and flute. Yes, He was Irish. I made him a continuous loop on a 90 cassette. Just this song. At first he felt I was being a right bastard. Unfeeling about his suffering. He was driving and someone popped it into the player. His friend said "Ain't this the truth" and started singing when it repeated. It became very popular with his friends. They said "Your friend has a wicked sense of humor. He must really like you to have made the tape for you". Now I think of Noel when I hear it. I don't know if the band reads the comments but this song helped my friend.
Drove from Bangor, Me to Hampton Beach, NH at close to 90 in a Chevy Chevette back in 1984 to see these guys open for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Great night indeed.
This has been my personal anthem my whole life!! Was lucky enough to be sound engineer for a band that backed them up MANY years ago. The club was packed!! Very fun night. All I have left is those great memories of a different time with different attitudes.
@@oldfisherman5112 The Cape Code Coliseum, I think was in Dennisport? and was tiny with shockingly good acoustics considering it was so simple and inexpesively constructed. I saw the Greatful Dead there (nervously) in a general admission show 4 months after the disasterous Cincinati Who show (with the people crushed and stampeded) and it was a great show. All the venues in Boston and Manhattan are gone. There isn't a place for teens and twentysomethings to Rock 'n' Roll Bcause of the rediculous RE prices, the 70's and 80"s in Beantown and NYC, were magical for college age extracaricular adventures and cheaper than dirt...
Grew up with these folks in Ipswich Massachusetts they played rehearsing in a small church hall across the street from my house… It was a blast to go and listen to them
Ipswich, MA. These guys should have been top of the bill. If there was any fairness at all, but life sucks then you get chased around by a psycho-chicken. Go figure. 🤩👍👍
Some of the good things about growing up in Massachusetts are the great schools, the world-class medical care, easy access to the ocean, lakes, mountains, etc. But seeing the Fools at the Channel, the Paradise and other local clubs was, by far, the best part.
I grew up in Ipswich. A few years younger than these guys. We loved them and wished them all the success. Just as they got recognized the fm radio turned robotic and pay-to-play. 😬🤑🥵😢💔
Anyone else remember back in the day when this was the anthem for stinkin' lousy rotten lice ridden tick infested Monday? Those who know, will get the reference.
I used the quote “I got one foot on a banana peel, and the other in the Twilight Zone.” when my boss said the department was “grooming” me for his chairman position when he steps down. Had to send him a link to this, he never heard it before…
This song tops a. Real life unfortunate for farmers.this can actually happen. I always thought of this song as a way to remember . Why we still do the right thing and we make our life better by doing what is right. She sleeps with some one else . watch how jealous she gets when you have a bunch of money.

I still sing this song after all these years. When life sucks, and it often does, this song says it best. My kids have grown up to this. Class of 84.
