This is definitely Tyler Perry’s Best work. Truly enjoyed watching it.
I have never embraced the naysayers about Mr. Perry's work. While in New York, I hid what I really felt about him among my intellectual bully friends. They thought Perry had stereotypes when I thought Spike Lee had stereotypes, but I was a coward among that tunnel vision crew. I realized that we southerners and Midwesterners tell our stories differently. This movie is a masterpiece: the physical beauty, the dazzling interconnected tightened story plot, the music and the acting, all come together in an astonishing menagerie.

All movies contain stereotype including Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola,etc. What makes them great is the writing, casting, abd directing. Tyler Perry is terrible at all those things. Spike Lee has made many great films that had all those aspects I listed. Films like Malcom X, 25th Hour, etc

This was amazing. The love story, and chemistry with them was beautiful and soulful. Tyler Perry knows how to film Black people, the sepia tones and lighting are fantastic. It left an impact on me. Its 100 percent !

I have spent YEARS knowing that Tyler Perry could do better than those awful Madea movies. I just saw A Jazzman's Blues minutes ago and he proved me right. This movie was amazing. I need one of these from him at least every two years, and not another single Madea movie, and his legacy would be something to marvel at. This was an unbelievable movie. I'll remember this one for a long time.
A beautiful tragic love story. It makes me so angry that things like this happened and still happen in the US.

I loved. Joshua Boone's southern accent in the movie. Great movie......sad also.
Mr Perry has created a masterpiece. This movie is an instant classic. It is Breathtakingly Beautiful to watch, with an Amazing Story. Congratulations, Mr Perry because the 27 years was worth the wait.

This movie was pretty awesome. I’ve grown used to the protagonist winning and coming out on top in the end in most movies-but to see the movie end in a protagonist’s death left a lasting impression. Well, written. Actresses were great.
This was predictable for me tbh
In most "white" movies yes, but it's common to see the portagonist defeated in melanated films. I'm so tired of seeing melanated people potrayed as crabs in a barrel (sold out by his own brother) and victims of white's on film. Of all of the ways he could have written this story he chose to perpetuate the same tired themes of indigenous people being sellouts & victims of Europeans into the collective consciousness.
Great acting from both! Wish them much success.

I just watch this film, and OH MY GOSH. I may be young, but I watch a LOT of movies and one hasn’t held me like this in a LONG time. My heart was going through a condition for minutes after the film ended. It really showed what humanity is, and how we must understand our fears and emotions because we can be destructive to others peoples lives. The tensions in a movie for all the characters made it feel so REAL. Absolutely breathtaking. Absolutely AMAZING! Dang… I haven’t capitalized several words in the same paragraph before 😭 I’ve always loved Tyler Perry, a few of his new works disappointed me, but THIS ONE better than his best and One of the best movies I’ve seen in the past few years.

The ending didn't sit well with me, it felt rushed for a 2hr movie. Ill re watch bc I couldn't figure out the issue with the dad. I was really enjoying the movie, until the last 15m. Also, the lead actors did an excellant job, especially Josh.
At first I said the same thing. But then I started to think about the woman who's still alive and had Emmett Till murdered. I just believe that all these years and the magnitude of what happened is eating her up inside. That was the connection I drew.

Enjoyable romance cinematic by Perry. A young black female passes for white whom is in love with a black guy. One predictable plot is Bayou being lynched for dating a "white woman". This reminds me of "imitation of life".
