Steve Gaines was a great guitarist & songwriter. The song "I Know a Little" is a great example of what he brought to the band. Very cool tune with very tasty playing. Had he lived, he would have written a bunch more great songs.

Tommy is a liar. I wouldn't believe a word he says.
@@BST-lm4po Link? I'm willing to give the guy every chance to clear his name.
He was in the marines. He pretty much made his own rock&roll dream come true (the story I've read about him getting the LS gig.) His post crash heroics saved a LOT of lives - including Rossington's especially. But ... he pled guilty to a crime in my world shoulda been a hanging offense.
@@gottadomor7438, Tommy did NOTHING to help his frynds when the plane went down. If you want truth about LS watch Gene Odom. He's a straight up guy. His story never changed. Tommy said the farmer shot him. Ask Tommy to show the bullet wound. He will deny that request because he's a LIAR.
U better believe he did ✨👀🚬
Aerosmith's management declined that plane the week before.
He could sing too, which really helped, and to replace Ed King you better be good. Gaines would have continue to improve, and we can only guess at how great he potentially could have become..........................*
unfortunately Steve and his sister Cassie died in the plane crash. RIP Steve
If anyone is responsible,The Pilots killed them, not Ronnie
Gaines wasn't half the talent of Ed King. He didn't play anything unique and interesting. But the riffs Ed created put Skynyrd in the history books. Ed was a superb slide player. The only reason why Ronnie hired Gaines is because Cassie gave him poontang then begged him to hire her brother.
Never digged gaines, when he came to the band, and started writing songs with ronnie its like the essence was changed...skynyrd were at their best when collins and van zant wrote most of the music...oh, and ed king...they had that hard rock kind of style...
Im not a die hard fan so maybe im wrong, i just didnt like the songs which came after gaines joined...
Your crazy
@@toxicsmallz1738 yeah im reading comments, it seems gaines was second coming of jesus for skynyrd fans and i dont get it 🤷♂️
He plays a good guitar but collins, king and rosington were the real deal for me...like i said, im not a die hard fan and i dont like the songs that came after 76...
I think Steve Gaines was fantastic but I will always be a Ed King guy.
It was all good, what else you got to say....
Wow it's nice to know it's not only me, I would never knock Steve or his talent but for me the whole "Lynyrd Skynyrd" vibe became something completely different from what it was and it just wasn't what I felt to be Lynyrd Skynyrd anymore after Steve joined the band. It amazes me to this day how just one person can totally and completely change a whole band.
There's not one song on "Street Survivors" that even sort of feels like "Skynyrd" to me.
When I hear anything from that album I can't believe it's the same band.
Where is this from?
