0:25 This is a great point. you can for example. Hammer the same exact scale sequence in the same key for months constantly and see unremarkable progress.
Granted, working on a technique, scale, etc to the point of almost mastery is good. Learning how far you do have to take it is a challenge in itself though.
if your in that situation, id suggest taking a few different scale sequences, and cycling through those every few weeks. It works alot better than you would expect. As if you set a certain thing in the back of your mind for a few weeks, its not a priority for muscle memory so you lose it to a certain degree. if you only practice maybe one sequence, you will get less overall experience with other patterns, and be less comfortable playing difficult lines. Cycling through just a few for an extended amount of time would more than likely make you better at all of them rather than pinpointing one in that same timeframe
just a thought that turned into a essay🤣

yeah, you can still get benefit from working on the same thing if you're trying to improve it (speed, accuracy, rhythm Etc.) it's when it's practiced in a rote fashion that you're not going to get much benefit (though mindless rote practice I still use as a way to develop consistency)
I agree rotating ideas works well & a lot of times when people come back to the first one they will find it will be easier because doing the other patterns will of made them better without as much repetitive practice Thanks for the essay Liam 🤘

@@ericnaylorguitar that is one thing ive found hamerin a single thing for months can bring. Overall greater consistency tempo wise, which in my case is very crucial

yeah, repetition over time like that in addition to building up the consistency (for me at least) allows me to feel more relaxed & confident. Often for these videos I'm often cramming a bunch of reps in the couple days before recording which just isn't as good as spreading the practice out over more time (but if I practiced every idea as much as I wanted I'd never get new videos out )🤣
