Having gotten more into writing myself recently, I appreciate the hopeful and bittersweet sentiment of your work so much more. Your prose at the end is making me wanna write really badly, so im gonna go do that lol. but please never stop writing, even if its just for yourself, even if you arent satisfied with it, youre amazing at this

Watching this just reminded me of khux and it makes me sad. There was a point in kingdom hearts 3 where the names of the top 100 players in an event are there where they go to help Sora and like that sort of moved me. In a series where one of the main taglines is 'my friends are my power' the fact 100 real people in the community are cannonically helping Sora fight a boss has meaning!
Also I work with a ton of ex Ubisoft. That one quote about 'you won't own your games' is taken wildly out of context. The dude was saying 'if we want streaming to get big gamers will have to get comfortable not owning games like they don't own their music with spotify' with the Implication that if they don't get comfortable streaming won't take off for games. But the rage bait went viral and now misinformation is what everyone quotes.

This reminds me so much of Tales of Luminaria, what a good game that never got the chance to do anything

Maybe someday Ever Crisis will have a similarly interesting meta and loving community. It would probably require an entire restructuring of how the game works, so I won't hold my breath, but...maybe.

I have a a similar issue with gacha games. I love theorising, I love min-maxing, trying new things. So gacha games are something I have to be very careful with - having been burned by Hearthstone and FE:H before - because the way I like to play easily falls prey to it.
I've wanted to see the story of Arknights, because I see a lot of art of the characters, but this prior experience, the knowledge that the scant bits of cool design and interesting writing aren't going to be developed, pushes me away from it.
I even liked some of the story of FE:H, but the cycle of new characters and new threats gets very repetitive. Getting invested in a story is quite hard if you know that, after a little while, you're never going to see them again.
I even even liked one of the Hearthstone story modes. It was singular, and honest, and sad to think that something like that will probably never happen again given their business practices.
I think you're bang on with the "looking down on people for liking bad or predatory games" type thing. It's very much a product of the 'consumption as activism and endorsement' philosophy that's seeped into the modern millieu of games, books, anime, etc. in my opinion. (Naturally it's almost always intensely hypocritical, but this is the way with every feelings yakuza out there, to borrow a phrase from that article I read whose name I don't remember).
Also that line about a rose wilting gracefully but inevitably was really poignant :'>
The slipping of standards from DLC, to DRM, to games releasing unfinished, to never owning a game has been kind of weird to watch.
It's sad to think about the games that are lost, or close to lost. In my mind, if a game can't be bought a reasonable price, then its preservation and access is not piracy. The company made no attempt to make the game available, so it should fall into the public domain as soon as the company that "owns" it no longer sells it. In my mind this is a pretty charitable option for those publishers and developers... Abandonware should be a legal definition.
Wow, that was long. Anyway, all this to say that I enjoyed this a lot :>

There really ought to be standards, if not outright laws, to have standalone versions planned out for gacha games. At least much of KHUXDR still exists, but all DFFOO will get is its cutscenes uploaded, and poor Mobius Final Fantasy... At least Wol is "playable" in Theatrhythm, but gracious that was so much artistry subsumed to the abyss.
