Singapore housing are not just a roof over our heads but reflected the basis needs of the average citizen, example;
1) Homeless: NGO or volunteer will assist the homeless to apply for government rental housing cater for the less previlage at SGD60 per month (with govern varies support scheme and welfare provided every year, no one will starve or without a roof over their head)
2) Single above 35: Are entitle to buy a new HDB 2room at SGD20k - 30k (after grants) or purchase bigger home from resales market.
3) New married couple: Will have priority in their 1st selection and purchase (plus varies govern grants)
4) MOP: Newly bought HDB have Minimum Occupancy Period before can sell.
5) HDB and Private: You can't owned a Private and HDB at the same time.
6) Racial Harmony: Certain numbers of units in every block of HDB have alloted to minority group. (Buy and Sell have to be to the same minority group)
PS: As the policy have always change to meet the ever changing demand and needs, so what I mention is not 100% accurate and there are many more different scheme and policy which you could refer to HDB official website for more information.
A small correction...
Each Singaporean can buy and sell your HDB home as many time as you want... But the issue is you will only get Government Grant/Subsidiaries only twice... In theory, a 1st time home buyer under the correct condition, could get anything from 40-80 Thousand SGD in grant from the Government...
SINGAPORE SUCCESS NEED ONE VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR WAS YOU MUST HAVE A MAJORITY “CHINESE” AND EVERY POLICY MUST BE PRO MONEY,THE COUNTRY HAD A FINITE LAND BUT HAD A POLICY THAT WELCOME ALL HUMAN BEING INTO SINGAPORE UNLIMITED.🙈🙈🙈
