  • In today's video I'll be showcasing the wonderful historic Silbermann-Organ (1721) of the Georgenkirche in Rötha, near Leipzig (Germany). This instrument consists of 23 stops on 2 Manuals and Pedal and was approved by Johann Kuhnau and also played by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy in 1840.
I hope you will enjoy this video - please let me know what you think of this instrument in the comments!

Am I right in thinking that you could really play anything on this instrument, baroque to romantic and maybe modern? That is very amazing! By the way : film editing and scene sequence are particularly brilliant this time! Bravo for that!👏👏👏

This is such a wonderful organ. It is great to hear it in a live recording. Amazing that this organ is still used although built in 1721. The German organs of this time period are the models for true Baroque pipe organ sound. You are so fortunate to live there and have the opportunity to play these instruments. And we are fortunate that you make these videos and share with us. Thank you, Paul.

Guten Tag, lieber Paul!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the same organ that Wolfgand Rubsam recorded Bach's "Little Book of Organ Music" with for Naxos.

So looking forward for your Performance!!

What voices! This organ takes no prisoners, eh? The speech and voicing provide so much character that later instruments have paved over with modern voicing. The principals and flutes have such strong individual character. It reminds me of the voices of a professional quartet versus a large choir; individuals stand out.
It's almost like the history of national languages, the ways church organ speech has evolved in such different directions.
If you ever run out of organs to expose (heaven forbid), you could do a long series of comparative videos exposing the large differences between exemplary German, French, English, Spanish, and American organs. Rather like Nathan Laube did with his "All The Stops" on WFMT in Chicago, which featured both organs and repertoires. And Hauptwerk samples could allow you to do it from home!

@@PaulFey In the United States, there is a group known as "THE ORGAN MEDIA FOUNDATION" which regularly visits historic and contemporary pipe organs in towns and cities all across the country, where they make videos in which the organist of the church being visited gives a sound tour of the stops of the organ. Following that, the Organ Media Foundation host, Brent Johnson, takes viewers on a tour of the inner workings of each organ. I highly recommend these videos to you. Here is one very good RUclips example of what the Organ Media Foundation does: ruclips.net/video/b1oUh1UnLOY/видео.html
