International schools with highest salaries are usually British Schools and they deliberately hire young teachers and teaching is very stressful as these schools are either “outstanding” or aspiring to be and hence timetables are heavy ie over 24 hours/week (before the new weekend ruling). The young staff are often new and unaware when they start and trapped for the 2 year contract. So check all these things.
Hi, so what would be the things to look out for in a contract, to avoid falling into this trap. In your opinion what would be the most ideal, deal. Thanks in advance
Remember the govt school with higher salaries are clever at distributing the money/teacher benefits. So here the housing would be cheaper, even shared in some cases, medical insurance will be bottom rung, if you have children their placement is problematic if you are western and the school is arabic - many considerations. Often first year its their choice of accomodation and then you may select ylur own. In all cases the housing allowance is less than market rentals. There is no flexibility. The salaries are better (since you save on housing) but have no doubts UAE has very high cost of living. Finally the biggest hit teachers overlook is that no contributions are made to your pension or National Insurance.
Hey Emma! You wear pretty much exactly the same clothes you wear at home in the private international schools here, shoulders and knees should be covered though ☺️ In some of the government/public schools, they require you to wear an abaya ☺️
Hey Aoife, thank you so much for that video it provided so much clarity! If you source accommodation yourself do they typically come furnished (like with beds, tables, couches etc) or is this an extra expense to keep in mind?
Hi Nadia!!! So happy to hear you like my videos 🖤🖤🖤 Yes, you definitely have free time during the holidays...you might work one day before going back to school but the holidays are very much yours to spend whatever way you want ☺️
Thank you!! I am seriously considering a post in Dubai and your videos are super helpful! If the housing allowance is taken, is it paid in one sum for housing that requires a year's rent up front?
Thank you Tommy! So glad you find them helpful ☺️ Some schools give it all in one at the start of the school whereas other schools pay it into your salary each month. ☺️
Hey Aoife, I'm looking into teaching in the UAE (I've taught EFL in several other countries) and am seeing mixed info on whether I can bring my dog, aka my best friend, with me. Would school accommodation allow this?
Is it easier for someone who is married with three young children to move there for a permanent job? If so, what type of accommodation will they provide? Would be grateful for you reply and thank you so much for all your videos. Very useful indeed.
Hey! I’m just wondering if you apply to get a job in Dubai with friends is it possible to request to live with friends? What is the ECCE like over there? Xx
Hey Emma. A lot of the accommodation in Dubai is single accommodation but if you are working out in another emirate and they only provide shared accommodation, you can definitely request to live with friends x
Hi Aoife, just wondering do you know if Sabis schools offer housing allowance? Do you have any recommendations of schools who offer housing allowance? Thanks🥰

Hi Aoife. Thank you for the informative videos. Quick question: Are schools flexible with the allowance? If I were to want to live in a school apartment for a month or two just to give some time to figure out other accommodations would they be willing to do this? Thanks!
Hi Lee! No this wouldn’t be an option. At least I’ve never heard of anybody doing this. You either take the housing allowance for the year or take the school accommodation. ☺️ Many people stay in cheap hotels ( travel lodge) at first when they come over before they commit to a place if they take the housing allowance. ☺️
Hey I was thinking on moving to Dubai to teach but I have 3 children age 7/12/14 will I have support on them with housing and education how will this work?
Hey ☺️☺️ Check out my video ‘Teaching in Dubai Q & A’ it explains what you need to know for applying for jobs in Dubai 🤍🤍 Let me know if you have anymore questions ☺️
It depends on whether he will have a job there because if he does, you will be given a local visa not an international one, as you will go under his visa, not your own independent one.
Nice informative video...wanted to know about staff ward/child fee discounts...does UAE offer staff ward discount to its teachers as I am availing in my present school in India...Pls let me know...your style is super awesome.
Hi great video. My wife and I are teachers and have two children. Would school accommodation only be an apartment? I would want to live in a house with my family.
Hi Liam! Most schools will give you the option of school accommodation or a housing allowance. If you want a house, you would take the housing allowance 😁
Hi, Thank you for sharing this great info. Question: If coming with 1 or 2 children, can I still live in a school provided accommodation or do I need to go with housing allowance?
Yes. I am in Kuwait ATM with my Son who is 5. I am also moving to Abu Dhabi in August to teach. All accommodation given for free for myself and my children.
@@aoifeclifford6348 My apologies, I made a mistake in asking the question! What I meant was, the difference in housing (size and amenities) for a single person versus housing with someone with a family ?
Hi Aman! No problem - This comes down to the school. I know a lot of friends living in shared accommodation ( villas) and they have gyms/pools in the surrounding area opposed to in a apartment buildings where the pool and gym may be in the building
