    What a beautiful live oak, excellent content as always. Jorge has a good eye pointing out the space increase on the foliage as that one big branch sagging. It's so special when you feel that deeply responsible for a tree, Thank you for sharing as always, we are so greatful.

    Beautiful oak.
    Oak wood is so strong, amazing how it can keep those long heavy limbs up.

      Working in the trees for as long as I have, there is an understanding of the flexibility of the limbs. With your weight added, you can feel the spring up on a reasonably safe limb or the lack of spring on an over loaded limb that is ready to break. Also looking for signs of weakness helps make these tree decisions better. Thanks for commenting.

      Sometimes, when a house is sold, and new owners move in, the tree that I so carefully monitored now becomes the nuisance tree or the dirty tree that the new owners hate. Breaks my heart.

    Often times a sparse canopy, particularly on an Oak is a godsend. I've had to do so many interior cleanings to allow storm winds to pass through. Blair, YOU know those fine oak chips are GOLD. Next time you're looking for BBQ and adult beverages, come dump me a load in Mio, Michigan, will ya'?

    Do your Live Oaks touch the ground and go back up in the air like our Southern ones do? I've seen massive oaks that are like elbows supporting the whole tree. Just so impressive when left alone and given room!

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  11 месяцев назад

      If they were left alone, yes. But people prune them up to get around them. In the wild, sometimes.

    Let's play the game: Find Jorge hidden in the tree...lol..!! He almost disappeared among the leaves & branches. P.S.: I hope I spelled his name correctly; my apologies to him if I didn't. I bet he has a bunch of great stories he could tell about the many years that y'all have worked together.

      The husband died a few years ago
      The widow still lives there but she is now 80. At some point, she will pass or move on due to age and I fear what the next owner will do to the tree. “Too big, too messy, not enough sunlight for other plants, need a ADU unit”. etc. Trees don’t get enough respect.

      @@arboristBlairGlenn Sadly that's true, but it doesn't have to be. A great, great, great, great, great grandfather of mine planted many trees across his property with two next to the front door, one did fall durning a hurricane several years ago but the other is still going strong and his descendents have kept the trees alive and thriving long after his passing. Even after one of the "Door Guardians" fell, it was quickly replaced and the new tree looks fine. If we take the time, the world around us can teach us many things and trees give back so much more than they take, they are a living link to our past with much to say.
      Keep up the Good Work and Good Luck.

      @@arboristBlairGlenn Is there any way to get some sort of legal protection for the tree? Kinda like tree preservation orders in the UK. That would help a lot.

    Do you have a specific Stihl saw model recommendation to someone starting with tree care? Gas or electric, length?

    • @arboristBlairGlenn
      @arboristBlairGlenn  11 месяцев назад

      We don’t have the same type of weather and we can get away with pruning our oaks all year long. Often, our jobs are about limb failures that need attending right now. Also, much of our work is just deadwood.
