AWESOME movie. WAY better than I expected. I was 9 years old in 1971 and had the "Snake/Mongoose" Hot Wheels drag set so it was great to watch and learn the "Back Story" behind it all. The filmmakers did a great job seamlessly interweaving vintage archival footage into the film that brought the excitement, reality, and dangers of drag racing to the viewer. I can't praise this film enough. Just an awesome movie on so many levels.

Loved this movie then and now. They had to speed up a ton of history but the majority of it was/is spot on. Prudhomme, Leong, McEwen, Garlits, Force, Hot Wheels, Wally Parks and the NHRA, drag racing in the late 1960's and 1970's was an era that was fun for we fans who lived the time BUT it was tough for those gents who loved the sport enough to suffer through the bad times to make it what it has become today. We owe them a huge shout out.

Lot less rules for drivers, and Fans. We we fortunate to live during this time. I remember when the Wild World of Sports started covering NASCAR and Drag racing. And the Great Evil Knievel. I did crazy jumps on My Schwinn. No pads, helmet, just a tough bike and a kid with more gonads than brains.
I don't recognize this country today. And I'm ashamed of it. I never dreamed this would be allowed by Americans. But, we have very few Americans, just citizens of America.

I wish they could have spent more time on the safety innovations McEwen brought to the sport. Everything from header design adding downforce to the spoilers on funny cars doing the same. He even worked with tire companies to develop a much better racing slick adding traction. They did touch on his work with fire suppression systems that have saved countless lives as well.

Rest in peace to the absolute all-out legend Tom McEwen, his some Jamie McEwen, and his son Joe McEwen. I have been a HUGE fan of racing history and all of the people who helped build the sport like Don "the Snake" Prudhomme, Tom "the Mongoose" McEwen, Connie Kalitta, Shirley Muldowney, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, Tommy Ivo, Tom Force, and the many others. Those men paved the way for modern drag racers and made the sport what it is today. You don't have to be an American to be a national hero, you just have to give it your all and do your due diligence. The world loves a good sportsman, and these men gave their all to the world of drag racing. NHRA is what it is today because of their efforts. Thank you all gentlemen. I will forever stand in salute to you all.

I was 11 years old in 1971 watching drag racing and NASCAR in the little bits and pieces that you could get on ABC, NBC, or CBS and it was awesome. This production should probably be titled the Tom McEwen story ! A brilliant and talented man with a ton of fearlessness, brains and business sense and skills . I love Don Prudhomme and all that he has done for the sport. But after seeing this video I realize that “TV” Tom McEwen was much more than a very formidable competitor, he is and always will be one of the true pioneers of the sport ! Google this MAN up !! And some of the most beautiful equipment he built. Love ya Don !!! But “TV” Tommy deserves his due

WOW! I have not seen this bit of popular racing history. The old clips of NHRA racing were great. Don & Tom were on the bleeding edge of what it takes to Love Drag Racing And making money.
When you look at a 50-70 million dollars worth of cars, trailers, parts, track assets on any National Event, you can see that Mongoose & Snake were the Originators of Modern Drag Racing Sponsorship. Another interesting point to the movie was the 'gradual' change in cars, transports and 'girlfriends' ......

The footage of all the dragstrips was great, Fremont my home strip, I spent many a Wednesday nights there thrashing my 67 Chevelle, sometimes dragging it home, on the freeway (880-80)with a CHAIN, behind a buddies truck. Predone facts: Don's dad really didn't like drag racing but he did love cars. Don's mother was white I beleave and his father was black. Don never had to deal with any racism back in those days. Drag racing was extremely popular among African Americans. None Don's related If you have never watched the biography of the Chicago Dodge Hemi Ghost car that dominated the streets in the late 70's it is a fantastic biography! I love all old car history and the men and women that drove them. Do your research and watch the bio's, there is a lot of good one's out there. Don Predone in real life was a very serious and dedicated professional driver. An amazing man.

Reading thru the comments and yet to see mention of "The Mongoose 1/24th scale plastic model kit of Tom McEwen's Hot Wheels Plymouth Duster". I built that Mattel Monogram kit back in 1970. The kids who's parents had a bit more money to toss about got a larger scale version of Don's Cuda funny car. But, I sure couldn't find that on an internet search, only the 1/24th scale. Lost history I guess.

What a great pice of history. A classic story of the legendary California boys and the drag strip. Wish this film started a little bit earlier in the life story. I have heard stories of their early days and think it would have been fun to see that. Great film though

I had the Track set. And still have the cars. But, I bet a lot of us do.
