Shout out to all my pipe layers underpaid overlaid
Under paid, under laid, lower back pain just thinking about ductile.
Von roll and or Ecopure great stuff👍🏽👍🏽
Replacing water mains can be a hard messy job and you have your days with the residents but sometimes you get really good residents who understand you're just there to do a job and it'll benefit them so a week or two of inconveniences doesn't matter but at the end of the day it's satisfying to have it all swabbed, tested connected and all black top paths reinstated
The crew was friendly and respectful. At the end of each day they fill up the trenches and cleaned the street. We were sad to see them leave.
Doing a tie in and giving the residents there water back at the end of the day makes you feel like a damn super hero and most are super understanding
That main looked like (CA) asbestos, never like working with that kind of pipe. Always fun going from asbestos to ductile pipe!
CA is the best material for piping
The old pipes are made of an asbestos-cement material known as transite. The new pipes are ductile iron, not cast iron.
Thanks!
I always cut the translate with the chop saw I don't even put water I like the smell of the dust
Ductile pipes are heavy as all fuck, but super strong cast iron is okay but over time ends up rusted out full of barnacles.
After doing maintenance on mains for several years i will no longer drink knowing what the inside of some water mains look like
Asbestos cement were the cleanest inside just has a bad stigma cause of the asbestos but its okay when wet
Pvs or pe is fine but how long until the chemicals seep into the water changing the quality
@@SMOKYY_DA_BEAR92 let me know if you do it all the way without getting a lung tumor?
“Few potatoes won’t hurt” 🤣
Very good crew there!
Yes, they were very efficient. Thanks for watching!
Are they public works ?
Why in the hell are you not using air shoring, or a trench box. Straight cut like that. Wow.
Could it be because the soil is hard pan?
Less then 5’ with a dense soil. Doesn’t seem like an issue.
Nice one!
Thanks!
Insane they are backfilling with a rubber tired Backhoe with a straight bucket. All companies around by me would have a full sized Wheel loader with a side dump bucket.
Not going to increase efficiency in this case. You use what you have for the job. Plenty of room on a quiet street for a backhoe to work. No need for a side dump.
@@josephpiekarski1569 , you'd be surprised how much more effective it would be actually.
Check your equipment boys! @4:30 that left front wheel with load of rocks looked low even after dumping the rocks.
That’s pretty close to the worker on the track hole 🕳 is a better man than me I could not get that close.
That operator was so good I believe he could perform eye surgery!
Looks like 10" Ductile Iron. New age cast iron with way better properties. It will flex (ductility) unlike cast or A.C.
Why don’t they use c900, maybe couldn’t get their hands on it?
@@davezanin1863 my guess is because of freezing issues? Or city standards call for ductile. I work for a small system here in Southern California and unless the standards call for pipe for a certain situation, we use c-900.
@@Deathmatchgypsy right whatever the plans call for
@@davezanin1863it also depends on where you’re from here in California we’ve used nothing but c900 different states have different requirements.
and how dos it louck after ish 1,5 years... must been sinking very mutsch
The crew did a good job of compacting the earth. The blacktop patches have not sunken at all. Thanks for watching!
Decent valve set up but no puddle flanges for anchor blocks?
Don’t need it if it’s got pipe coming in from all directions.
Hi David Nice set up! What equipment did you use for asphalt trench cutting?
It wasn't my project, I was merely observing. They used a circular saw to cut the asphalt and a backhoe to dig it out.
Laying water main with a mini blows....
I'll bet the homeowners appreciated you guys doing a real paving job, and not just tossing down some lumpy cold mix. I think we've all seen some really horrible temporary paving jobs. I've never understood that level of laziness.
I am the homeowner. The crew was very respectful and professional in every way. When the project was finished we were sad to see them leave!
Transite is nasty to cut, St. Louis had some transite sewer pipe can be fragile bad to cut it.
I meant ductile iron
Is their asbestos in the running water ?
I don't think they use asbestos anymore. I think they use unlined cast iron. I run a whole house water filter anyway.
What the hell they are going to have to redo all those pipes they put in because utility pipes now by law have to be plastic rubber
Codes might be different here. We are in Washington state.
Should use plastic not cast iron.
That pipe is ductile iron. Much stronger than cast or pvc. Line should be plastic though. No need for ductile unless installing a fire line.
I am so sorry daved gpo but unfortunately the city will have to rip up your whole Street once again as your street has been paved wrong the right way is tar ashpelt chip stones and road markings outside every single house as street parking is only for essential services and contractors not homeowners or friends and family
I'll have the city get right on it.
Where is the OSHA... it's nothing safe over there😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬
You don’t know what your talking about do you?
You are right. OSHA requires any trench deeper than 3’ to have some form of cave-in protection. The trench was clearly deeper than 5’ in some spots. States might have separate rules and enforcement however!
