Respect to those parents (in socalled developed countries) who have decided to have one fewer child for the sake of the planet. They have created a zero footprint and nothing can beat that, not even money diverting pensioners, bikeriding vegans or opinionated eco journalists (bless them all).

Education and birth control are key to reducing hunger and poverty.

Nobody is 'pointing the finger' at other people apart from GM, who is saying overpopulation isn't an issue when it clearly is. There are a tiny number of people who only say it's overpopulation. We know overconsumption is an issue too. So why not do both? Have smaller families AND reduce personal consumption. A sustainable population is around 2 billion at average consumption levels.

Whilst it’s true that population increases occur mainly in poorer nations, I think it’s wrong to argue this is not a cause for concern. Global population is forecast to peak at 9 or 10 billion! So yes, the impact now of population growth may be lower than people think and is not the main cause of climate change (consumption in richer countries is), future increasing consumption could undo any good work on climate change as consumption increases overall in the coming decades. Unless, of course, the increased consumption in the currently poorer countries is: 1. more than offset by reduced consumption in richer nations; and 2. the much needed growth in poorer nations is sustainable growth. All that said, I’m not a fan of population control other than through faster education and increased availability of better family planning.

Agree. And educating women in poorer countries to take them out of the bondage of reproductive ignorance.
