I am going to be real here aim assist on console is terrible sometimes. Like you can try shooting somebody in the very back like as widow to pick off their supports but if the entire enemy team is running around in front of you the aim assist is gonna drag your aim all over the place and youll end up missing your shot.
Like everybody talks about how its unfair or console players are bad because they have/need aim assist but you fail to realize that is a portion of your control taken away from you and used by an AI. its like 2 people playing the same character neither of you know the others' plan and thus your teamwork is going to be off and sometimes cost you the win or your life. Your mechanical skill is at the mercy of an AI because it thinks you are shooting somebody infront of you and not somebody specificly who may or may not have people in that same or near that line of sight.

Imo Jix was just dodging NotACanadian’s questions like crazy. NAC was just asking if you lose to a console player with less/worse tools to use, then that’s just a skill issue but Jix just kept replying with aim isn’t as good as game sense. While I’m not saying he’s wrong as a whole, in the video’s context he kind of is. Game sense was not mentioned in the question at all, so it would’ve been safe to assume that people 1v1ing have similar/same game sense.

Well having good “game sense” and “positioning” is also considered “skill” would it not?

@@valdranne like I said in my comment NAC’s question had nothing to do with game sense. That’s also why I said it would be safe to assume that in these hypothetical scenarios where aim and hardware seem to the main point, that the players game sense would be on similar levels. To answer your Widow question: like you said it’s situational. Yeah it could be good game sense, but it could also be a hardware difference like one player having a faster system.

I think Jix was doing a poor job communicating the point he was attempting to get at. SVB did a video on this topic with a couple console players and Samito. Sam's point was that the question of skill issue is irrelevant to how it feels. It doesn't feel good to win against a console player as a PC player for the same reasons it doesn't feel good to lose to them. Regardless of how strong aim assist is or the quality of a PC players peripherals the question on the "loser's" mind is always, "did I lose because my of input method?" The PC player asks, "did I lose to what is basically a legal aim bot?" The console player asks, "did I lose because the other guy spent more money on his gaming set up?" I don't mean to do some kind of "PC-master-race-" flex with the second question. It just that PC parts are unfortunately quite expensive.
To be quite honest I think there is a simple solution to the question of which is superior: PC vs. Console? Don't put them in the same competitive lobbies because there isn't a way to make them fair AND feel good for everyone.

i'm a Console player turned PC player recently
Question 1: was never GM so I can't speak on this.
Question 2: I find that its equally as easy/hard on both PC and Console. i main Hanzo and Doom, and like to play Cass, Widow and Ashe as well on both platforms.
Question 3: I find it easier to do small adjustments and small flicks on controller, but having to do big flicks is obviously easier on PC. however both require time to learn. as stated before, I main Hanzo and Doom, my skill with Hanzo is about equal on both platforms as I don't require to have big flicks if I stay at medium/long range, but as Doom, it is by far easier to play on PC as he need a lot of camera movement, constantly doing 180s and such so he is much easier on PC.
Question 4: yes, PC is superior, I think on PC the skill ceiling is much higher. not to even get to being able to optimise the settings. the amount of times I've been killed by a rat hiding in a bush just to be annoying, when on PC i have details set to low and these bushes don't even appear on my screen
Question 5: I think a console OWL would be cool. but there shouldn't be a mix. it would be too much of a mechanical limitation.
Question 6: 100% skill issue. I have lost to a few console players on Quick Play. And I believe "skill issue" encompasses game sense and positioning as its a skill you learn. If I lose to a controller player, then its just a lack of skill on my end and the other player is just better.

I played Overwatch 1 almost entirely on PC, I bought it there because I figured PC would by far have the largest playerbase, and since there was no crossplay at the time I worried the console versions might be dead within a year or two like so many other shooters. I had very little experience playing shooters on PC going in, but put in several hundred hours and feel like I got pretty good. As for Overwatch 2, I have played it entirely on Xbox Series X so far. In total my profile says I have over 700 hours of combined playtime between the two games. My thoughts on some of these:
-Hitscan weapons are definitely easier than projectile, regardless of PC or console, imo. Projectile requires pretty much the same level of aiming skill, except you also have to memorize various different leading distances for various different distances to the target, to cope with strafing, and then there is still the possibility of the enemy countering that leading by zig zagging with good timing. Hitscan is obviously easier as it's just point and click, regardless of distance to target or the enemy's attempts to evade.
-it is harder to aim on controiler, thumbsticks are never going to be as precise as a mouse, you tend to see jerkier movement, it's a bit harder to aim for headshots with say Kiriko's kunai and projectile weapons in general as a result. I also think it takes more practice to get good with controller in a shooter compared to mouse/keyboard, for brand new players to the genre. Even at maximum controller sensitivity you can't do flickshots as fast or turn around as quickly as you can with a high DPI mouse. Those things do tend to give a PC/m&k player an advantage over a console/controller player of similar skill levels.
-PC is superior to console in terms of aiming, as mentioned above, and maximum graphics output, but console has various advantages, cheaper start-up cost, more likely to be playing on a larger screen, built-in voice chat, etc. Each person has to weigh the pros and cons of each when deciding, there is no definitive answer here.

People always be overestimating aim assist and acting as if it’s a define all end all thing when it’s not. It’s incredibly inconsistent and actually messes you up most of the time, yes it stops at a certain point so the rest you have to do is by yourself, but all it takes is a little movement towards the person your aiming at by another enemy to completely throw off the aim. It can also over assist causing you to miss. If anything 30-40% of the time is helps you. Most of the time it doesn’t, so in all honesty, if a pc player gets beat by a console player even with aim assist it is a skill issue because the aim assist isn’t actualy giving them an advantage. The aim-assist discussion is definitely weird thing to get into. The problem with comparing skill between a M&K and gamepad 1:1 is because they're fundamentally different controllers. I'd agree M&K have generally better advantages then gamepad even including aim assist, but that does not change the fact that aim assist still negates aspect(s) of skill. That being said, I'd similarly say that all the K&M has negates aspect(s) of skill even against other K&M players(thanks to varying levels of computer hardwear). How much skill and which kind of skill each system negates is a huge debate in itself, but is also kind of pointless to get into. Personally the concept of "skill issue" in this topic is weird in general.
On a side note, Anyone remember of Gyro controls? A video from SolarLight shows the potiential Gyro controls have for aiming, and it was enough for me to believe it atleast equalizes the mechanic differences in games with limited button commands. Gyro controllers gives the key thing gamepad is missing: Refined mouse movement. It's still a case of different mechanical skill, but it's much closer then joystick movement.

Agreed Mous&Keyboard and Controller are just two different tools that require different skill.
I'd also say the Aim Assist also requires getting into the details to actually assess whether it takes skill away or not. OG OW1 aim assist was so awful I literally turned it off for a good chunk of characters and did better just relying on pure aim. Then the improved AA made it worth having on all characters but it would still slow you down or drag too much on certain Heroes and situations. So it was better to reduce the AA window on projectiles where you want to aim ahead of people. That's not even getting to Ana who has friendly AA too. Safe to say it's a lot more complicated than most discussions get into.

In the last Hot Take, there is a whole lot of gray area which makes it hard to decide if it's really a skill issue and makes it more of a pros & cons debate. Jix is fixated on console's small leverage of Aim Assist and having to put less effort in human-precision input could factor the win no matter how small the percentage. While NotACanadian states the PC player's specs as numerous pros, it doesn't indicate they don't place in any effort in precision as well. When Consoles having simple limitations and PC having open complexity, each has their own difficulty but you can label them with pros and cons
My Take: Skill is not entirely the issue

I played on console exclusively until ~2017 when I built my pc. I use pc for everything except console exclusive games now.
It is frustrating that other pc players have so limited understanding of what aim assist is. Aim assist is a slow zone surrounding a hit box. When you are within the zone your sensitivity is slowed artificially while you are tracking. It is the equivalent of moving your mouse slower make fine aim adjustments, Something that is incredibly difficult for a joystick without aim assist. It is not aiming for you at all in most games. In some games the zone will drag your crosshair along the zone’s boundaries but to aim at the targets hit box is solely based on human input.
If a controller player beats me in a overwatch 1v1 I’ve lost due to a skill issue.

Idk why everyone is trying to act like they are different things completely and that positioning is not related to your skill. If anyone, barring what platform they play on, have better aim, positioning, game sense, etc. than you then they are, by definition, more skillful than you.

I've played on both pc and controller for various different shooters, something i've taken away from those experiences is that aim assist is heavily overestimated in strength. I used to be quite a high level player in Fortnite on controller a long time ago, any time I came up against a PC player, if I won all skill and game sense was thrown out the window and their loss was blamed on aim assist (sometimes I even turned it off just to test their reactions and it was still the same). In fortnite there was only really one point where aim assist was actually genuinely strong enough to be worth complaining about, which was when spamming L2 would redirect the crosshair to the target a small distance. This was then later reworked to a more sticky aim assist where you would still have to aim entirely on your own for it to even kick in at all. The only either slight advantage a controller had over M&K was 360 degree movement, but with some settings adjusted, you could achieve the exact same results with a keyboard. Apart from those 2 slight advantages, pc had infinitely more advantages and it became harder to do anythin else they could do with a controller. My stance on console versus pc on overwatch is largely similar to how it is on fortnite. PC is able to do everything so much quicker without compromising precision. They also have way more inputs to work with and all can be accessed whilst being able to access your camera movement (one of the biggest advantages they hold over console if they do not play "claw"). The only scenario where I think aim assist actually poses much more of an advantage is in lower ranks, where the pc players aren't very good at taking advantage of their major movement advantage and neither are very good at aiming.

Competitive Apex is dominated by controller because of aim assist currently.
Perhaps it doesn't make a lot of difference for average player, but it absolutely does at competitive level (and like you said at low level when mouse player can't aim). This is why we should never mix aim assist controller and mouse on competitive.
Also aim assist change every balance. Moira isn't impacted by aim assist, she can't use this specific tool, so she is worst on console. And the opposite goes for snipers.

    • @mocheerio

@@jerejere-qv7xk apex is a bit different but in overwatch, has anybody noticed a blatant advantage in controller aim in qp lobbies on pc? they get aim assist but i havent seen a single person point out that a console player playing on pc qp is broken, if they even notice that theres a console player in their lobbies

    • @kitchensnake649
      @kitchensnake649 Год назад +1

@@jerejere-qv7xk The aim assist found in titles like apex, cod, halo and destiny are considerably stronger than that of overwatch. Overwatch lacks the rotational aim assist that occurs when a player strafes out of your crosshair found in apex (this rotational aim assist exists because it is physically impossible for a controller to react to strafing at the same speed as a mouse due to the thumbstick having to cross essentially a deadzone to input the opposite direction, unfortunately in apex it is overtuned). I think in my opinion, apex and shooters like cod also rely more on aim than overwatch and fortnite. I think overwatch has more depth and mechanics to handle with far more abilities and quicker, more erratic movements with heroes like tracer, that require more readjusting. For example, I play minimal overwatch on pc, but my movement is already better on pc because I have much more range of motion and it's faster and easier to hit multiple inputs at once with stuff like blinks and flight

I played console from launch til this January when I switched to PC. They were pretty much spot-on when they said that gamesense carries over but mechanical skill doesn't. The aim assist is such a massive crutch and I didn't realize how intense it was until they added crossplay and took aim assist away from console players in crossplay lobbies. There are definitely still degrees of skill even with aim assist though; people who know how to aim on a controller are still going to do better than a player who can't aim well with a controller(like a masters console player vs silver console player) on 100 aim assist. The learning curve to swap from controller to mouse and keyboard was really rough for me but I'm figuring it out the more I play.

Aim assist is in crossplay lobbies. It got re-added, not taken away, and Overwatch’s aim assist is not nearly as much of a strength or crutch as people think. Your problem wasn’t dealing with the lack of aim assist, it was adapting to the speed and precision of MnK and getting used to quickly reacting with the mouse in order to keep up with the lobbies of more experienced PC players you were in.

The fact that Gyro isn't mentioned at all here 4:20, is really upsetting. It goes to show how underutilized this very viable aiming technique really is. Gyro allows the player to do more 1:1 movements that aren't possible with analog controls and allows the right thumb stick to shine as well. As analog is a very limited method of camera control hence why it's normal to have aim assist for controllers. The problem of fairness of Controller V M&K can be largely elevated solving one of the biggest problems with matchmaking PC players with Console players. I would highly suggest you watch SolarLight's "Why Controllers don't suck in Team Fortress 2" video for more detail about Gyro and how it can even be used in games that don't even have Controllers really in mind. Heck and if you're interested in the control method you can try it both PC and Switch.

Little thing that may help you is to get a mouse with programable thumb buttons. Something like a Razer Death Adder or Mamba can really help when you bind your abilities to the thumb buttons.
I play a lot of MMO's so I have a Naga I use, 12 thumb buttons some I disable, others I use for commands like "Heal me", "Thanks", and simple pings as well as character abilities.
Other thing you can do is try to lower your sensitivity some, when learning it can help to make your mouse movement 1-1 until you start to get the feel for it. So, basically lower it so the screen turns as fast as you move your mouse, or a little bit faster if you can handle it. :)
Aside from that, it just takes time and practice to get used to keyboard and mouse, but once you understand it you will be golden.

with the last question, it depends on the hero, especially with characters that have nothing to do with aiming, losing on those characters is more of skill diff (eg lucio, moira, mercy) (that is if we are talking about a 1v1). On the other hand if it is heroes like soldier, considering the fact that aim assist aspect is also available, you could say it is a skill issue. In terms with the point on equipment, I would argue that equipment difference can exaggerate skill differences (eg if you have $1000 dollar headphones compared to a $30 one). I would personally say that PC players have access to more equipment, so losing to PC players is not really just a determinant of your own skill but also the equipment available to each. the other thing that can be said is the fact that joysticks take a bit of time before they come to a full stop so your pointer slightly overshoots from your target, this is not an issue with PC and is the reason why the aim assist exists. You could argue the aim assist is more to ensure that players can actually aim where they actually want to. so you could ultimately say that losing is a skill issue.

Yep, you have far better damage potential in dealing with her and if you lose it’s probably because she dodged you shots, faded on you while flanking, or used orb effectively. This is an extreme case because aim assist doesn’t give you that level of free damage on other heroes and often times is better to just turn it off as it doesn’t know how to lead with shots and pulls your aim in random ways.

Personally I disagree with most what Nebula said. Simply because 1. I have a different opinion and 2. because she often missed to answer the question and talked about unrelated things.
Are pc superior? Of course they are! The question has nothing to do with cost and how you feel about it. Spec wise it is completely superior.
Even if you ask about the feeling of owning said piece, it doesn't change the fact that superiority is about the quality.
Most people that will play both devices equally will most likely than not choose a pc over a console.
Device quality, chat quality, even game quality and modding quality and so on, is much higher for a pc.
Is a new high tech car or an old low tech car superior?
Console players shouldn't get the same equal play rights in e sport.
They should get the same equal rights in their own area of playfield.
Why do you think there is a seperation of gender in physical sports?
A different way to see the question of pc vs console 1v1, is to ask, is it a skill issue if a player loses a 1v1 against another player?
The answer should always be yes. Luck and game sense are also skills that you possess. If I win against you in a 1v1, then I am clearly better than you.
That makes it a skill seperation. The problem why you lose? A skill difference, a skill issue.
If we would be trading 1v1 losses, then we would technically be equal in skill. However we still have an skill issue because we are not better than our enemy. A skill issue still persists.
M&K or a controller does not directly translates to who wins compared to who is the player.
But pc is superior in quality of aim and movement. Why do we play mmorpg games on pc and why are most only available on it? There is definitely a higher win rate for a pc vs console player on "the same skill level".
The last sentence was probably the intention of the 1v1 question she asked.

I have a PC but I’ve grown up with consoles so I’m just more used to them and can’t officially make the switch to the “Superior Platform” I’ve watched hundreds upon hundreds of hours of professional Genji streamers and Genji videos just to replicate what I see from some PC stuff and make the most of the limited settings I have and how much I can grow as Genji without aim assist. I have both. PC and Console. I play overwatch on the console since day 1 and being on T500/GM as Support since season 10. Also using my PC to play MMO games. I also like to play Overwatch on PC and I'm also GM on PC. So, as long as you have mechanical skill and game sense, it doesn't matter what platform you are on. If you can aim with the controller, you can easily aim with the mouse. I don't understand why peoples think Aim Assist is cheating. No its not. Overwatch has the worst aim assist compared to other FPS games, such as CoD. Overwatch Aim Assist is all about slowing down your cursor movements when it gets close to the hitbox, that's all. Most of the time it fcked your aiming and missing the shots.

i must be missing something. if you loose a 1v1 REGARDLESS of any precondition (whether being on pc or console or a samsung smart fridge), wouldnt that always be a skill issue? if you loose a 1v1, you shouldve just played better??? used better positioning, game sense, aim, etc?? idk sounds like people making excuses for loosing a 1v1 personally. just “get gud lul”. maybe im misunderstanding, but loosing anything sounds like a skill issue. there is always room to get better.

Really enjoyed this episode as a console player myself. What people need to understand is that aim assist for OW is not very good at all. Yes, it is still helping you but it’s barely noticeable. Whether it’s a skill issue or not I’m not really sure but at the end of the day PC players have the advantage even against console players with aim assist. If you lose to a console player with aa it’s more than just aim, just because we play on a different platform doesn’t make us any less better. Like accept the fact that you lost to a console player but don’t say it’s because of aim assist because you can literally do so much more with your aim than console players! Just my take on that!

I think the last argument is a perfect example of why I don't want overwatch to have pc and console players in the same ranked lobbies. I specify ranked because i couldnt care less what happens in qp or arcade lobbies as they have no real bearing on competitive play. Skill differentials are irrelevant when the issue at hand is one player asking themselves, "Did I win or lose just because of my input method?" It doesn't feel good for console players to lose to PC players because PC players have a mouse and keyboard. Meanwhile PC players don't feel good losing to console players because the PC players will be asking themselves, "did I lose to aim assist?" And the strength of aim assist is also irrelevant since a PC player could have a toaster oven PC and $2 PC peripherals. Obviously PC has potential for higher APM, framerate, etc. But if we are playing against one another in a game I don't know how good or bad your set up is and vice versa.

Console have the same games yes and they are more accessible but it can be also a double edge sword , like having teammates that are really young , or that are barely knowing how to play the game , or playing the game like cod
Also i see the overwatch community on console /pc differently , for example gold players on pc can be more skilled on pc than on console , not to mention that the console side of the community can be more toxic than the pc side , or simply more young (again)

Given the fact that most gm and top 500 console players use xim they’re pretty close to pc. It’s kind of disheartening that xim usage wasn’t mentioned as it’s not talked about enough.

@@katerinagagne1809 it’s an adapter that goes into the back of the console. It allows you to use mouse and keyboard on console while also having aim assist on the mouse and keyboard. It’s a huge issue that gets exponentially worse the higher you go up.

    As a console
I feel im worse whenever i play PC because i rarely get to use one
Maybe if i was equal time on both id be better?
But i think Support and Tank is the only role queue that is equal with PC where as Dps is a little harder
Its not impossible to be equal with Pc on console you jsut need the right settings and the right skill

I played OW on Switch after 200+ hours on PC and the aim assist, while it did help me hit my shots, made it much harder to hit what I wanted to be aiming at. I tried playing some hanzo and obviously went for the support but my aim kept getting yanked from me and went to hit the tank. And even if that didn't happen trying to lead shots while your aim is being "corrected" is not fun

Sometimes I wish aim assist could be turned off. It's not that strong. Unless you're aiming at Immortality Field. In which case it will do a full on streamline upwards

I played with controller in pc, no aim assist (I didnt even know it was a thing until I switched to console and seeing that the reticle moved a bit), beating pc players and then played in console and the only thing that felt different was that the reticle moved a bit I didn't know what it was until I went back to pc and were dogs*it at the game and then noticed the aim asisst thing, I didn't suddenly became God, I literally stayed in the same rank as I was on pc, I think aim assist the only thing that it does is changing the way you aim and you can be better (in controller) without the assist if you are more comfortable without it

The device someone uses does NOT determine their skill level. Game sense does in almost every single game. A PC player who is a high rank Tekken player won’t do the same with an arcade stick but he/she would still know what to whiff punish. A new device will always require relearning but the knowledge of the player is still intact.

  • @remen8021

tbh I feel like ranks on console and PC can't really be compared purely because of the different skill and muscle memory required to control your hero. I've tried playing on controller a couple times and even on heroes like Reinhardt the unfamiliarity threw me off. It might just be personal bias but for me playing shooters on controller is so much harder than on mouse and keyboard.
To be clear I love playing with controllers and do it all the time for less aim intensive games but purely because of camera movement on pc vs console I don't think the skill crosses over.

I forget aim assist is a thing💀 I really didn’t think it was helpful so I turned it off years ago. Doing so really helped my aim and didn’t make me reliant on something else. If anyone is planning on switching to PC or playing on both, I’d recommend trying to learn to play without aim assist😄
