Can the Gen 2 version run a SINGLE SSD, then be powered like the older, bus powered Gen 1 version? The Thunderbolt spec lists Max voltage 18 V (bus power) Max current 550 mA (9.9 W max.)
External power supply makes it less portable, now you must carry more cables. In this example you might be better off with portable NAS you recently reviewed or even take this mini pc which is not that bigger
Question: When connected to a Thunderbolt 3 Mac M1 host does its write and read speed fall down to USB 10 Gb/s level since that is the highest USB protocol the M1 supports, or will it stay in Thunderbolt, allthough at Thunderbolt 3 speed?
i don't see it as an issue. i carry a small 45W power supply everywhere i go, and once i am connecting external monitors i have power available anyhow. lack of RJ45 connector is what really makes it useless though...
> needs power suypply > no 2.5Gb ethernet (at least) > only one display > uses lots of power even if you don't need the ssd storage at that point I wouldn't touch that with a 15ft pole
I have written many emails asking for a manager or supervisor. The instruction are horrible, every single help email response from them is either answered with a direct link to the horrible instructions or half answered emails. I written instructions guide to drop downs that dont even exist. I ve had the unit for three weeks and still cant use it. DO NOT BUY THIS
@ one big big issue is the disk management process to RAID 1 or any raid version. THEY DONT KNOW THE PROCESS. I did a live chat with Microsoft help….big big pain in the butt. Two weeks of research….
Performance is not "pretty darn good" for a USB4 enclosure I'm afraid It's actually very mediocre unless you RAID both drives, then only the writes remain mediocre, while the reads get above 3000 MB/s Not the thing to get if you want fast drives with the hub functionality as a bonus If you want a hub first with extra drives, go ahead ...

did you change the drive policies in device manager? because those speeds were slow.

If only it had a 10gb lan port. It would be perfect...for my stationary use. An internal battery would make it oerfect for on the go
All was all sounding so good, right up until the info about power supply needed. Shame

I have the first gen version and dont use it because of the fan. Good to see the new one fixed that. Wonder if its a simple fan swap.
i hope it is tall enough, to fit a 990 pro or other, with the heatsink option.
The product specifications specifically state it will not accommodate heat sink m.2 drives. I almost made the mistake of buying a 990 with heat sink.
How is the host not able to provide 10W of juice to the docking station through a thunderbolt connection?!? 🤔
I find all this TB stuff is just still so insanely expensive.
👍
Where do you get all this interesting things to review? Thanks!
Something like this would be great: 2x SSD, no external power supply needed and fully passive cooling. My ears are too sensitive. And Wifi / LAN.
