I'm one of those people that discovered Cardiacs long after the fact, and have since became a huge fan. I believe Dirty Boy to be on par with Bohemian Rhapsody in terms of genius-level arrangment. This was the first time I've seen Tim post-coronary/stroke, and good God it just choked me right up. So utterly cruel to see this great mind trapped in such a broken body. I'm glad he's now free to explore other dimensions and complain about them to Jim in his dreams.
I clicked on the video for Tarred and Feathered about two months ago and I can't get by for one day without listening to something from them. I am obsessed. Actually kinda pissed that they've been around for decades and I only found out about them in late 2020. I would have saved up, quit my job, and moved to England to experience their concerts. I've listened to Mr. Bungle since the 90s. Learned Patton was influenced by them. Makes sense. Not knowing music theory, I knew there was something special going on here. After seeing this I've got a grip on why. I get it. Now I hafta go get something out of my eye. RiP Mr. Smith...thank you for your fearless deviation from the norm.
Erik Ninnemann - I stumbled upon them exactly the same way in September. Tarred and Feathered was randomly suggested to me, and from the moment it started I was transfixed. Of course I had to dig in and find out as much about them as possible. Cardiacs are now one of my all time favorites.
Well, well, well. Who would have thought - flicking through the Guardian and a man on a boat piques my interest. So I delve deeper, headin over to the Jaywalking the World RUclips channel to learn more and lo and behold, my favourite band Cardiacs. That was unexpected. What a wonderful film about a wonderful man. You have previous too. And with that, I'd just like to say thank you Stephen J Payne. Happy sailing.
Bit choked actually, watching this. My biggest regret is that I never knew the band existed at the time they were in their pomp and Tim was well. Deeply moving video. Thanks
Same here, I heard them for the first time 5 years ago. I had never heard of them before that, even though I was going to gigs when they were still playing, I heard is this the life On the radio when it came out but never got to hear what it was called or who the band were ! I am so sorry this band never got the fame and fortune it truly deserved and I am happy that Tim has finally got the recognition for his incredible work and talent.
Incredible to find out who’s behind the filming of mare’s nest. Life changing performance for my friends and I, thank you so much for your work on the performance and with the band in general
Sunday, 6th October I finally am introduced to Cardiacs by a Facebook friends share. ❤❤❤❤. I can't believe as a 56 year old, that I've never heard these guys play. I think I'd heard the name before ? RIP, Tim❤😢😢
Pure friggin genius! RIP Tim. You were a bright and shining star in an otherwise dim and dusty firmament. The world is a smaller place upon your passing xx
Been listening to this marvel of a band since the mid/early 90’s. So beautiful that Tim recieved this while he was alive. Its so hard to describe how excellent and marvellous the band Cardiacs were (and continues to be) and what a musical genious Tim were. Cant be put into words really
Thank you for years and years of wonderful music. Thank you to all the other fish in the pond, my Cardiacs family. Rest in Peace and Power, Tim. All the love, always. x
That performance of Is This The Life at the end of your video ... don't know quite what to say. Cardiacs are the most extraordinary band I've ever seen playing live, and that song has a very special place in my heart along with Nurses Whispering Verses. Thank you Tim for making such amazing music, I wish you were still with us and making more.
Words cannot convey the feelings for Tim Smith, Cardiacs and the other musics with which he was involved. And words cannot convey the gratitude, nor the sadness now. But Thank You for the Music, it keeps me entertained constantly. ❤
I was a student at Kingston Poly in the late 80's and at a gig there they really polarised the audience. Many didn't take well the asymmetrical time signatures and tempo changes, they reminded me of Van der Graaf. So Beautiful! So very beautiful.
Saw the Cardiacs at the Market Tavern in Kidderminster many years ago. The great man gave me some of his time after their gig to have a chat. Great close up gig a bit mad but very original. RIP...
I stumbled across @tantacrul yesterday morning, which led me to Cardiacs, I think I finally slept at 4am and now 1/2 my Sunday tagging things to watch later. I don't yet understand why I am connecting with this music so emotionally. Thanks for sharing this personal moment with Doctor Tim and so many other underrated musicians. We need to break the iron grip that the big production houses have on our music.
This was wonderful, discovered this video during quarantine.. the world feels quite sad right now but Tim Smith's music is so inspiring to me and takes over my brain to give it some solace. This is so sweet.
Back in the 90's, I was too busy running my small business to notice what was going on in modern music. Now, I can say that I lost out from not knowing about Jeff Buckley and now, the Cardiacs. The only reason I discovered the Cardiacs was a post on FB after Tim had passed a week ago. What a sad loss for us all.
A fitting tribute! And thanks for the work you did on Mare's Nest (which after all this time is still the best gig footage I've ever seen - which is my justification to show however much I can get away with to my music students, year after year!).
Glad he got recognised for the fantastic musician/ composer that he is. Sad to see him in that position but hopefully he knows how much joy and happiness he has bought so many people
How lovely! Thank you for uploading ! I know it's an expensive thing to do and takes time to produce, but wouldn't it be aces if The ABC were able to release a couple more DVDs, maybe a singles DVD or the Garage Concerts full live show. A lot of beautiful fun to be had !
The greates band ever devised. RIP Tim Smith. People who don't get it don't like music. And he deserves every bit of recognition. The saddest day in music was the day god took him for gods self. And this is beautiful. No one will make music as good as the Cardiacs. It's a Concord moment.😥
Thank you sir for this and for all of your video work with Cardiacs. Those in the boating world might be interested in "The Big Ship" (but then again they might not)!
Oh man I'm so fucking sad, and so blessed to have found Tim and Cardiacs in my life. RIP Tim. Thank you for all of your astonishing creative beauty and LOVE x
thank you so much for putting this together! Hope to see a full length of this, as part of an archive of his life, for future Cardiacs fans, who knows? endless possibilities. -fan from the far away land of Malaysia.
All that glitters. Tim Smith really deserved that honour. Hats off to you sir. Original compelling and moreish to listen,. I'm off to learn my Lydian scale.
RIP Dr. Timothy Charles Smith. A True Genius. Honour to have witnessed you perform at the height of your powers, enraptured & terrified in equal measure!
Paynie, how fantastic that you were able to be there for your friend and produce this nice tribute. I recognize the song :) . Feel your love, feels full circle. WOW! n.
Nice work Sir... Thanks for sharing a record of this very special day for those of us who weren't there. You may wish to make a small title edit at 4.03 "Fortnum".
Thanks for this, lovely to see all the fish in the pond giving Tim some love. It's also reminded me that I don't watch/listen to Mare Nest enough. Any idea if we'll ever see that footage that was shot at the Astoria all those years ago?
'Life's really never the same, once you get in to Cardiacs.'
We know what you're talking about.
True statement.
The maddest band I ever saw live, I labelled it progressive post punk.
Tim was way a head of his time.
I'm one of those people that discovered Cardiacs long after the fact, and have since became a huge fan. I believe Dirty Boy to be on par with Bohemian Rhapsody in terms of genius-level arrangment. What an amazing band.. where have they been all my life
In a pond, somewhere in south west London.
Rest in peace that man. This wonderful tribute is ever so poignant at the moment.
Thanks so much for this. Fed up that I couldn't make it.
Awsome Paynie☆
Tantacrul you introduced me to cardiacs. I can never thank you enough

Got. Something. In. My. Eye.
Pure friggin genius! RIP Tim. You were a bright and shining star in an otherwise dim and dusty firmament. The world is a smaller place upon your passing xx
"I got it", after the first four bars of the first song at my first ever Cardiacs gig, which was in 1989.
I just got into cardiacs this year, don't worry, there'll be plenty to keep the flame alive.
Blimey, that's brought a tear. Well deserved, and a lovely tribute to a genius.
Would have loved to know TIMS thoughts ,,,,,
This is just magical and wonderful. So much love. Miss your musical genius Tim.
We'll miss you, Dr. Timothy Charles Smith.

Loved the band since i was a kid. Sad to see him in this way but he is and always will be a hero of mine. Tim smith forever

Followed Cardiac Arrest and Cardiacs for years now and this honour is long overdue. Truly a genius.

The live show you recorded was amazing. You captured their energy.
This was wonderful, discovered this video during quarantine.. the world feels quite sad right now but Tim Smith's music is so inspiring to me and takes over my brain to give it some solace. This is so sweet.
An incredible way to finish from ' Mares Nest is the icing on an already awesome film.
What you all accomplished with Maresnest Live is truly something so spectacular and special to me. Bravo, sir.

There should be a wow and a love button on RUclips. Incredible, genius, recognition! What more can I say.
Right now I’m so glad I got to see them so many times. Loved that man
