Tekton has changed the entire industry. Even hardcore professionals are seeing the value in Tekton. 2 of the mechanics in our shop have practically shed tears that Tekton wasn't available when they bought their tools. We're talking about many many thousands of dollars wasted on nominally better tools. And for me speaking from experience, I have gotten warranty replacement faster with Tekton than with snap on
@@justinbriggs7560 snap on flank drive sockets seem to grip better but even here in the rust belt I don’t notice that much I’ve never had a job yet that I just needed flank drive, as long as they fit well enough it will be fine, and tekton stuff is very hard to break with a great warranty
@@sandman7849 I would say my Tekton sockets that are less than a year old and rounding internally would disagree. They see heavy use, but my Proto sockets are a couple decades old and show little to no wear and my Snap On sockets are about the same age as the Tekton, but also show no wear. I’m going to try their warranty process to replace the worn sizes, but I’m not impressed by their longevity.
TEKTON is what has replaced all of my snap on and Mac tools been turning wrenches for 40 years owner of two garages and most of my guys are now using TEKTON tools never had a issue nor a replacement with any in my boxes for about 5years now so I can't say good or bad with customer service thanks for the video I certainly do appreciate it
That’s awesome to hear and the money you saved allows you to get other things you really need. If anything does break, warranty it and buy that size in another brand for the long haul isn’t a bad plan. That’s my plan in a nutshell.
I'm a fleet mechanic also and have The complete set of deep and shallow in metric... very happy with mine. And they work well with my Snap-on ratchets... lol
All my 6 point sockets are DeWalt and Tekton my cheaper sockets are my 12 point sockets most 12 point sockets I have are Jobsmart from Tractor Supply they seem to be decent sockets.
Trucker88 I had to shoot video 3 separate times to get things in frame that I missed the time before. Thanks for being patient on this one and I love the new ratchets while the new sockets were okay. Appreciate you watching
I have this set. I absolutely love it it is the best socket set I've ever used. I love that there are no size skips. The sockets themselves fit perfectly zero slop when engaged on a fastener. If you want to upgrade ratchets for some serous torque I recommended Tekton's 24" long 1/2" drive ratchet. While more of the big sizes will be required when working on trucks Its not just trucks that use big sizes. Cars too will require some of them. For example the CV Axel on many cars will use 32 mm.
If you can order direct, yes. The company says that they will honer their guarantee for both US and Canadian citizens, no matter where you get the tools from, even if from a flea market. They tell me they will soon make it possible for Canadians to also order direct. I did use a Tekton authorized seller on Amazon, but the company told me it would not matter where we got them; North America is covered. They are the best tools I have had my hands on for awhile. The same day, some "blemished", precision American made tools arrived. About half price, on some the name removed. One of the last precision tool manufacturers. PEC I ordered a 4 piece combination square set, having SAE and Metric, and an extra 18 inch ruler. As soon as you put these in your hands, ignoring blemishes, you know you are holding a better tool than any combination square that came from a big box store. I had to get my blemished set through Ebay, also an authorized seller, for these PEC tools.
I don’t have a 120 tooth Gearwrench ratchet mine is 90 tooth I have both 1/2 and 3/8 and I have Tekton sockets also Tekton makes really good tools their on par with DeWalt maybe even better.
As a mobile forklift technician I cannot stress how much I love the tekton sets. I go into customers alot and can only bring so much without taking multiple trips and I can throw a 1/2 kit, multimeter and an impact gun in a standard size northface backpack and do 90% of my job. And the kits don't go to shit when they rattle around in your van all day
I've been using that same set for a few years now. I'm very happy with it other than the 72 tooth ratchet. They (1/4, 3/8, & 1/2, I purchased all three sets) would almost always change directions by themselves when using. So I upgraded the ratchets to SO.
I have the 3/8 74 piece tekton set and I tell ya what such a great value I only paid 130 for mine and it does include the 90 tooth ratchet good review by the way!!
I ordered the 1/4" drive 6 and 12 point sockets sets and the 3/8" 6 point socket set. I like them because you don't get the socket bits or other items you don't want. You can order those in another kit. I wasn't looking to by a 1/2" dr set because I don't have a truck anymore. I just do small stuff on car. If it's something major it goes to a shop. But a 1/2" set would be nice to look at and fondle.
I only own (1) Tekton tool, but I like it. My mechanic tools (as of now) are comprised of Dewalt brand sockets supplemented by Capri Tools ratchets and accessories (among other things). I can't personally justify the tool truck because I only tend to brake tools very rarely. I'll take a closer look at Tekton next time around.
Even as a pro most of the time you use your impacts, for my chrome 1/2" drive sockets these are great! I like mine! Personally I'll put them up there with the tool truck brands.
3:00.. I too have noticed that there are Tekton tools that are similar.. well exactly the same as some Pittsburgh tools... nothing against Tekton. ..I like Tekton tools... I have their complete screwdriver set and a couple of the 90 tooth ratchets... I have the bent handle 90 tooth and some combination wrenches that I gave to a co-worker when I upgraded to Milwaukee... but this is a decent set... for the same price the DeWalt Mechanic's tool set is a little more complete though...
Craig Cundiff You’re probably referring to the DEWALT Mechanics Tools Kit and Socket Set, 204-Piece (DWMT72165) which is a great set for coverage across 1/4,3/8, and 1/2. Doesn’t provide the same coverage in 1/2 as it only goes to 24mm and 1” I believe but if I could have started with that set 20yrs ago I would have thought I was the Boom!
You call this a budget value set for a beginner. Let me start off by saying I bought the 3/8 sae + metric set for a friend sight unseen, when I got it I was comparing it to my own made in The USA Craftsman set that I've owned for 30+ years and I found the sockets to be of equal quality in my opinion. The ratchet is much better though The Craftsman's ratchets of that era weren't anything to write home about. SO anyone reading this don't be fooled by "budget value set for a beginner" Tekton is making a high quality tool that should last you for years.
I've used Craftsman for years and the old ratchets I've kicked rusty tire lugs off with a 1/2" Craftsman .Today's Craftsman since they left USA have been junk you would strip gear for sure .Highly doubt that Tekton yester year or today is even close to the quality of Old Craftsman ratchets .
@@michaelkolbe5963 Honestly I wouldn't even try to take a rusty lug off manually. With that said I don't believe my 34 year old 1/2 drive ratchet would hold up to it either with a three foot long pipe on it.
I think Tekton is fine for the DIYer, but speaking from heavy use as a professional, it’s not ok for pros. Especially not for the sockets that will see substantial, regular use. I’m an aircraft mechanic, so my sockets are mostly 12pt SAE with a set of 6 point for specific uses. The Tekton sockets that I purchased to fill in some gaps had already started rounding internally by the 6 month mark. It’s the worst on the smaller sizes that see regular use, like 5/16-1/2” in 1/4 drive, but some of the larger sockets also show signs of significant wear. By comparison, my 20 year old Proto sockets and my fairly new Snap On sockets show literally zero appreciable wear. I believe the Tekton sockets are made with too soft of an alloy. I also have gripes about their 1/4” and 3/8” ratchets. My primary ratchets are the regular T72 and F80, but I purchased the Tekton 90T ratchets because they offer a little extra leverage and supposedly less arc swing. However, the backlash is significantly greater than the Snap On and the backdrag is also much heavier, which effectively makes the lower tooth count SOs work in much tighter spaces. And the worst part are the switches that change direction on a whim.
@@phtevenmolz5030 I like your input on The Tekton tools and you certainly sound like you know what you are talking about. I used Craftsman and Snap On professionally for years and never experienced those problems with sockets. I really felt The Tekton stuff was a equal to The Craftsman sockets though. My friend really likes the set and has been using them for a couple of years now and hasn't broken anything yet. He'll probably break the breaker bar eventually though, it's a total piece of junk.
Chris I agree this is the best half inch set for beginners and the next best would be proto/mac for their thickness which isn't as thick as the rest so they fit in tighter places.
Yota Doug's Tool Collecting Channel I remembered back you also mentioned getting bigger sized 3/8” drive sockets as an option which totally work. You just have to be cautious of torque specs and know your and the tools limits.
Yota Doug's Tool Collecting Channel I survived many years buying Proto and Stanley USA singles but that’s cause money was tight and good options were expensive. I wish I could have gone with this set and then replaced what broke under warranty and buy singles of what I truly need.
@@ClientGraphics Times are changing for the better when it comes to tools these days! I'm grateful for it! and as to the larger 3/8 sockets... Thanks for reminding me that LOL.. I have that BIG 3/8 fhllfd80
I had the 1/4 & 3/8 mm set and I love it I use the 3/8 box a lot I already broke the 3in and 6in extensions hopefully the warranty them I broke the 1/4 ratchet and they warranty it with no problems my next buy is the 1/2 set
You will be hard pressed to find another set from other manufacturers to even compare to. For sure, make sure you get the new sets and not the old ones, for the better ratchet (I also like how the new smaller sockets neck down, compared to the old ones). I still haven't bought this set, but it is high on my list of need to have. I am sorta glad I waited so that I can get these new improved versions.
Grey pneumatic is also great and all there stuff is impact rated you can get 1/2 shallow set from 10mm to 36mm no skip for $86 and deep for like $110 im in industrial maintenance btw
I paid almost the same money for the Carlyle set. It's a six-point, metric set. But, it's only has the shallow sockets. A great ratchet with only the 36-tooth mechanism though; even for using it, a six inch extension, and a 16mm socket to rotate the engine on a Suburban. The set ain't used everyday. The Tekton set is definitely a great value. I have looked at the Quinn 1/2" drive deep socket sets I may look into the Tekton version instead when I need them in the future.
I’ve been trying to finish getting the 1/2 sockets I’ve been buying them individually I have a DeWalt 1/2 socket set but it only goes up to 1” not 1-1/2 and in metric it goes up to 24mm so I’m going to get the rest I’ve been buying Tekton sockets individually.
Tekton is where you should be looking as a great alternative to the SK/Proto/Williams/Wright price point. I’ve been looking for a comparison of Tekton, Capri, Sunex, Carlisle, Icon, Milwaukie, and Gear Wrench.
GreyPneumatics Duo sockets are awesome too because it covers both chrome and impact, and doesn't skip all the way to 36mm and up to 11/2in. however u have to buy shallow and deep separately when u pick up the 1/2 sets. good pick up though.
I think I have most 1/2 inch drive sockets now the largest SAE socket I have is 1-1/2 and the largest metric socket I have is 36mm I have different brands in 1/2 inch drive DeWalt Tekton Craftsman and Jobsmart from Tractor Supply I have a mix between 6 point and 12 point in my opinion it’s good to have both 6 point and 12 point instead of just all 6 point or just all 12 point.
Since everything is metric today, including inch sizes is almost worthless unless you need to train a Dodgeball team. Should sell a ratchet group with accessories, i.e. extensions, universals adapters; then select either Metric socket sets or standard socket sets. I experienced the opposite, bought my Craftsman tool set in 1978 was ALL standard. Then over the years had to buy Metric. Since the majority of work on modern cars you only use smaller sizes, unless changing out FWD axle shafts, and your set probably doesn't go that big anyway. Most tools will NEVER be used, their there "just in case" you might need them.
Totally agree with you sir!!! Snap-On is an Indian word for pull ur pants down and let me screw you up the but !!!!!! Period, just look at some of the torture test comparing the two!!!
I got me the big metric impact set. 10mm-36mm. 250 bucks is a damn good deal. I never use the sae stuff. And i have found on big socket sizes sae and metric are really close
Thank for that very detailed side by side review of the older vs upgraded version of the 1/2 set. Any change on your personal opinion about the build quality between the two, in regards to the sockets? I've noticed in the newer set all the socket are more slimmed down, and not as robust, at least by the naked eye. Am looking to pick up a 3/8 set in the older configuration, before they run out completelly. Just looking for your 0.02 please. Regards!
Based on reviews the newer set seems to be better especially the ratchets. I personally havent had any problems but I use my tools correctly. If you have any doubt buy on Amazon before a project and if they dont meet or exceed your standards then return them. The tools are backed for life so you shouldn't have any problems.
Definitely can’t fit folded out as it would be 44”x30” when it’s opened up. It does fit and close and you could swing it up and have the back rest on those spring locking mechanism by the hinges. and it does fit between the cut outs for pry bars and screwdrivers. I haven’t taken everything out of the top but it does look to like clear the front lock mechanism so you could close the 5 drawer cart if the case is closed
Not a bad set would have definitely went that route and bought snap on 9-14 for professional use. There deeper neck but the rest would work no problem in a professional environment
Great video Tekton is stepping up their game great set if you need one keep bringing quality information and letting us know what is going on in the tool industry
Nice set. Makes me wish I had a reason to use sockets more! And your opening intro credits with the theme song are looking really professional and cool. The new logo looks nice.
Darn nice Tekton socket and ratchet wrench set. For the price point at $200 smackers it's well worth the money for quality tools. I don't own any Tekton sockets or ratchet wrenches but if should decide to upgrade from my old original Craftsman Made in the USA sets, this is probably the set I would choose to purchase, Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
No problem Sir. As you can see I have some older Craftsman USA just not the complete coverage that I wanted and that’s why I purchased this set last year.
Hey all I need the measurement on the blow mold case for the 1/2 inch drive 84 piece set, I am going to order it but I am planning the new home for my tekton sets? 1/2 inch is next. H W D
I think I agree with you about the older sockets being better. I am gradually buying the 90 tooth ratchets to replace the ones in the old kits. I bought the 1/4” , 3/8” and 1/2” sets weeks before the new ones were released. I was extremely disappointed I didn’t have the updated sets. I was gonna purchase 3 new sets but Tekton wouldn’t even offer me a discount off the newer sets. I guess they don’t have to but it was definitely a sour experience. If I had known I would have held out for the newer sets. And these old style ratchets are junk. I am sure they will hold up pretty good but they just feel cheap.
for what the warranty is worth? it is worth lots. i managed to break an allen wrench and a quick photo sent to Tekton and i was sent a new set of wrenches. no problem or hassle. and if you break the old ratchet they will send you the new one. they don't have any of the old stuff.
@client graphics can you please do a combined current review (now in 2020) or even just a table top talk of Mikwaukee vs Tekton vs Craftsman? Hitting on 3 points: tool quality, best return policy, and where they're manufactured? All while also mentioning how these 3 compare to big American made tool brands like Cornwell, SK, Armstrong, and Wright?? Please Thank you!
This would be even better if it had the 5/16 like some other 1/2" Drives, but it does make up for it on the other end with the 1 5/16" as most only go up to the 1 1/4"... Also wouldnt mind paying $220~$250 if it came with the 8mm, 9mm, 33mm,34mm,35mm, 36mm, 37mm, 38mm, ajd even a 39mm like OEM Tools has in some of Their kits but a 39mm isn't necessarily a deal breaker
Hi sir! Nice vid! Can you measure the tool box L x W x H in inches? And may I know how much it weighs? I am planning to have it shipped to my country. Thank you. :)
Now if they could only get the right sizes, there is NO NEED to use a 1/2 drive ratchet with a 10mm socket. 1/2 inch should start at 17mm or 3/4 and go up from there with no skips.

Has this been updated to include the 90 tooth rachet?
I've been trying to justify buying their full set of flex heads
I have this set love it use it all the time never had any issue with any of it
Love hearing comments like yours. I enjoy my set as well just took me awhile to finally do a video on mine to share.
Do you find yourself reaching for more often your gearwrench or tekton ratchets?
Had to pause the video and say fantastic logo!!
410 Auto Tech Thanks Buddy! Still thinking of ideas for the MotivxTools set.....
Good choice on your new logo! Great Video, Tekton has came a long way!
Bobby Garrett Thanks Bobby, and yes Tekton has come along way and pretty quickly in the past 2-3yrs.
Love my 1/4" drive Tekton set .
Thanks Chris, for sharing your thoughts and videos, Rodney
Peterbilt and Kenworth use a lot of both
They have metric only with accessories they just dont come with a breaker bar
I have 7 boys. 16 to 6.
I have new ls trucks. New fords.
And 15 to 20 C10 to K20s.
I need both.
Entry level they're just as good as snap-on or any other over priced tool truck products.
My favorite tool company is Tekton. If I need a new tool, I check to see if Tekton has it first!
I use impacts on all my half inch sizes other then that that is a beast kit
Hows this compair with the gearwrench set? Im trying to decide between the two.
Will this fit folded out in a hf 5 drawer tool cart in the top
It will fit closed in the bottom drawer with literally no extra room. Its like 22" x 15" x 4.5"
@@ClientGraphics awesome thanks a bunch
@@ClientGraphics so .... no on the top
Now I’m curious I’m going to take everything out of the top and see if it fits how it fits and post some pictures on Instagram for you
Not a bad set would have definitely went that route and bought snap on 9-14 for professional use. There deeper neck but the rest would work no problem in a professional environment
Great job buddy! That is a heck of a great deal for that kit! Tekton I think is a solid option 👍
$375 for 1/4, 3/8, and the 1/2 inch sets!!!!
GREAT BUY!!
Have you done a 2024 update?
If I’m grabbing 1/2 inch, I’m 90% off the time grabbing an impact.
Great video Tekton is stepping up their game great set if you need one keep bringing quality information and letting us know what is going on in the tool industry
The logo looks good.
Thank you Sir! It was a suprise from my wife she found it and help craft it to what we see today.
Very Nice logo. I really enjoy all your videos. Thanks
Thank you
Joe Smith not heard of that brand. Looks like nice set. Thanks Chris
Joe Smith Thanks Joe Smith and Happy Friday. 🍻
Nice set. Makes me wish I had a reason to use sockets more! And your opening intro credits with the theme song are looking really professional and cool. The new logo looks nice.
Nice set!
Thanks Dominic!
I miss this Chanel
Nicely done. Very well explained. 🍻
Appreciate you watching and commenting on my video. Hands down it absolutely made my Monday the best in a long time!! Thanks buddy.
ClientGraphics No problem Brotherman anytime. Great job again.
Do you have them on a socket rail? I tried to put this same set on an Ernst 19” tray and it didn’t fit all of them
Hey all I need the measurement on the blow mold case for the 1/2 inch drive 84 piece set, I am going to order it but I am planning the new home for my tekton sets? 1/2 inch is next. H W D
Is there still a warranty if I ordered on amazon?
Yes, there is a warranty even if ordered on Amazon. They are always Guaranteed no matter the place of purchase 👍🏻
Worth every red cent.
Great warranty too.
Wow, too late I already have a set. Nice!
Thanks for the video Client.
Nice. I was gonna plan on getting this. How is it holding up?
I want like that set of Teton set
Their composite ratchets are the same as the black and grey Pittsburg ratchets too.
Does this set skip any sizes?
No it does not skip any sizes
@@ClientGraphics Not quite correct, it does skip all the sizes larger than 1-5/16" and 32mm. ;)
I like that duralast ratchet
Are these tekton a tad better than the comparable craftsman’s?
Yes. Better.
You guys in the us lucky in the uk we don’t have the range of choice you get with tools
U said no skips can u show sae 19/32 -21/32 - 25/32 Mercedes uses
Where do you find those sockets? Do you have to buy them directly from Mercedes?
Make sure you are choosing the right tools for the job and check out Tekton at bit.ly/2m9jMOr for all your Tekton tool needs.
New subscriber love your Channel
Thanks, Darrin.
Good logo👍
Wow nice set
I don't know but a 10mm 1/2 inch drive socket is a little excessive??? Well I think so🤷🤙
Hi sir! Nice vid! Can you measure the tool box L x W x H in inches? And may I know how much it weighs? I am planning to have it shipped to my country. Thank you. :)
I’m sure aeddon is proud
Yes, he thanks you for watching. Now don’t say out too late.
Is this made in china or taiwan?
The socket sets are made in Taiwan. Each Tekton product has the country of origin listed on its website.
They will send you the new one. They sent me a new style flex ratchet when my old one's flex joint snapped.
Pesannya dimana ya
Crix Fix!!?? Sounds like!
Gilberto Quinones In away it kind of does sound like it. Hopefully a good thing 👍🏻
They have since updated all their ratchets in these sets to the 90 tooth versions
I wonder if they will come out with a impact version of this set.
That would be awesome 😁
Rob Muss Such an awesome idea and I’d probably jump on this same sized set in all impact if they made it.
www.tekton.com/1-2-inch-drive-6-point-impact-socket-set-sid92407
It is out there now. 👍
I find it hard to believe the sockets didn't fall out and doesn't even need that thin shitty foam mat thing!! That's amazing!!!
Now if they could only get the right sizes, there is NO NEED to use a 1/2 drive ratchet with a 10mm socket. 1/2 inch should start at 17mm or 3/4 and go up from there with no skips.
