English is basically our 2nd language next to our mother tongue. Because it is the common command of language at schools and establishments. In my place we speak at least 3 to 4 languages (BISAYA, ENGLISH, TAGALOG & SPANISH) We were colonized by Spaniards for 333 years, Americans for 48 years and the Japanese occupied for 3 years during WWII.

We used taglish. A combination of tagalog and english but some of our tagalog are mix with spanish too. So basically we speak tagalog, english, español simultaneously, aside from that, every region has domestic language seen in provinces because in Manila they just used tagalog as there domestic langauge.

We usually mixed English and Filipino when we speak, I think because sometimes we find it hard to put what we want to say in Filipino, so we used English instead for a particular word or phrases we want to say, and vice versa. Also, sometimes, we use the term in a language that we feel will speak for what we really want to convey, you know, there are terms in Filipino which has no direct translation in English and there are English words which can't be directly translated to Filipino as well, so we use what will fit our message and which term comes first to our mind.
In my opinion also, we are struggling to use both languages because we get confused on which to use, well, we normally use Filipino, especially at home or with friends because that's our first language or mother tongue, yet we also spend most of our times at school where English is like the primary medium of communication, in almost all subjects and we are encouraged by teachers to communicate in English during those classes, maybe just one or two subjects are in Filipino, so we kind of mix what we learn from school and at home which is good because we can speak and understand both, but also hard in a way we mix them in our minds

English is one of the two official languages in the PH, along with Filipino. It is also the medium of instruction in schools in the Philippines. For instance, all math and science subjects (Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, etc.) are taught in English. Some histroy classes (Asian History, World History, etc.) are also taught in English; some in Filipino.

In the Philippines, the capital of our country called Manila (Metro Manila) most people are good at speaking in English but still we speak throughout our mother tongue Tagalog, so whenever you walk around the streets and talk to street vendors or people all over they'll speak and understand English, some might speak broken English cuz not all are fluent and we also have our own accent esp to those who don't speak English in a fluent way but we can still communicate and understand tourist foreigners whenever they visit here and talk to us. But there are also people who speak fluently in English like celebrities, actors, actresses, news reporters, governments, etc. here in our country we also do slangs for both Tagalog and English it's either we combine it or shorten it a little. We also have similarities in Spanish not only words but also names. Nowadays we mostly speak taglish because there are some words for us in Tagalog can be really deep which we don't know much about it's exact meaning and same goes with English which is one of the reasons why we speak taglish. Hope this helps
