this album was what put king gizzard on the map back in 2014, supported by their first tour in america. that 'joey walker jam' version of hot water at remlinger farms (or as stu and joey would say: rim-licker farms) is maybe my favourite gizzard live song period. hot water is also one of my favourites from the album. on there it's very stripped back, mainly driven by just flute and bass, with whispery vocals. btw this is missing the song 'empty', which hasnt been played live since 2014, if you wanted to check that out too also this was my first time hearing this particular slow jam 1 and wow that was incredible
Okay, first and firemost, King Gizz hasn't played track 5 "Empty" in like 10 years, so maybe check that out if you can! You've actually already heard the opening medley on KEXP, as well as Hot Water combined with Robot Stop. And that harmonica section of Her And I is in the original, its not a reference to anything. I love this album. I wasn't crazy about it when I first heard it, but it was late at night and I was in the mood for other stuff. Now I absolutely adore it. The opening medley is incredible, but the rest is amazing too. Lots of gizz albums have really big openers with more normal length songs after. Float Along - Fill Your Lungs, this album, Polygondwanaland, Omnium Gatherum, Changes and The Silver Cord (Extended) all start with a track thats a lot longer than the rest of the tracks on the album. Really glad you enjoyed it! I'm gonna suggest you check out the track "The Wholly Ghost", which was cut from this album and released as the B-side of Cellophane when it was released as a single. The studio version was removed from streaming services in the U.S. because the song "doesn't exist" according to Lucas, but there is a fan upload of on RUclips. The few live versions of it are really good too. Check out both, they're pretty different from eachother.
I would definitely check out the studio album on your own time after this. A lot of their earlier albums were pretty roughly mixed in my opinion, but this one does some REALLY cool stuff along its runtime, particularly with changing the speed and pitch of the recording.
Joe Walker instead of Hot Water is so friggen funny lol, made me laugh out loud
C- “I don’t think I like the glasses”
S- “Did you try them on all three settings”
C- “it’s not the settings”
I chuckled and woke up my cat
