Thank you for this video! I have purchased some flag material and the book from Sailrite but they don't have a video to show making any of the flags. This was very helpful. ! I already have a tool to cut/insert the grommets. Looking forward to another 'did it myself' project :)
Thank you so much for your feedback Donald! When I made this video I was completely new to sewing, teaching myself. I have come along way as I am sure you will too. Keep at it!
@@Unwrittentimeline Thank you, Lisa! My materials and book arrived yesterday and I made the Q flag and started on Bahamas - but just the blue/yellow/black portion of it. I'm still researching if the red/white portion is 'required' or not. If it is, I got some practice in at least. There is so much conflicting information and sites selling courtesy flags of this version or that version. In any case, for Bahamas, I may have two :) I've been sewing just a bit over the years. I made some marine pillows with piping last year and they came out great! Are you still cruising - where are you now? Thanks again for your informative video!
@Donald Cheatham that's great your pillows came out. Piping can be tricky. The flags are hard to discern, it depends on the source. We have two Bahamas flags because I found out they are their own government no longer under British rule. But, they are or were in 2019 chill about boats using either one. Unfortunately we are not cruising. Covid put us stateside for 2 years. One thing led to another work-wise and here we are today proud owners of a marina in North Carolina. We bought Point Marina in Whortonsville, NC. Lots of work to do so we will be stateside for awhile. We do still live full time on our boat though.
@@Unwrittentimeline Point Marina - Wow - congratulations. I just looked it up on Google Maps. When I head down that way, perhaps I'll stay a night or two. I just sent a message to Bahamas Customs - I guess I'm going a bit overboard (no pun intended) :):)
Okay - they are quick! Just got a reply from The Bahamas... they said 'Good afternoon. The second option with the Bahamian flag in the top left is the correct courtesy flag.' So... back to the drawing board for me, but it was great practice :)
I could be mistaken, but I believe you've made the Ensign of the Jamaican Coastguard. Based on the Royal Navy's ensign. The civil ensign is the same as the national flag (the one you coloured in with sharpies).
With this knowledge I will now make my own flag and make my own micro nation.
lol, im making a micronation too, so how’d it go?
What a team!...making all your own flags too!. So cool!
Thanks, Lisa! Wonderful tutorial.
Thank you, it was my pleasure ☺️

Nice job !
Thank you.
What is the purpose of a courtesy flag?
The courtesy flag is flown to show respect for that country. Its flown on the starboard spreader after you clear into a country.
@@Unwrittentimeline It also shows you have cleared customs. Before that, you fly the yellow quarantine flag
@@3ravenstug864 that is true. We also created a yellow Quarantine flag for our arrival before we clear.
Is it gonna be SpongeBob SquarePants flag
Nope it's not gonna be SpongeBob SquarePants flag
