@@eldrago19Yes he was. Hitchen’s views were all over the place. He was against the Vietnam War but after 9/11 he abandoned his anti-war views. I followed Hitchens as I am an atheist, and he was a brilliant atheist!
Putting Jerry Falwell in his place! Well done! Priceless! Now, please, Roy, do the same for Pat Robertson, Jimmy Swaggart, the Pope, George W Bush, Dick Cheney, and Rush Limbaugh. You sure have alot to work with here!
Actually, as a Christian, this video causes me to ponder what is the nature of the God believers display in their daily life. I believe we deserve the mocking, and not God, for displaying a parody of Jesus. But when He will ne truly revealed as He is through His body, the Church, (and the evidence of this will be wonder-working love), then the world will wonder, and many will come to Him. Thanks, Roy... you're only helping us get there sooner!
Blessed are the comedians for they shall give pause to all religious zealots, hypocrites, and other uncritical thinkers that revel and wallow in this fear-based catastrophe of a society!
3:32 Roy singing "JERRY FALLWELL'S GOD" in that voice sounds JUST like Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy and I cannot get it out of my head. I can't be the only one that hears it, holy cow.
I enjoyed hearing this song in church last week. If only RZ were there to perform it live. Come to Michigan Mr. Z.... It is only 2,500 miles away and our weather is so lovely...
Though personally I'm happy being a freelance moral philosopher. No self-important beaurocracy to wait on, no history of hypocrisy or violence to justify, and I get to be happy with the moral decisions I make every day. Plus I get to have fun by studying various religious and secular philosophies from around the world. It really is an eye-opener into both sociolgy and psychology. I do adore Ebon Musing's "New Ten Commandments," though!
I love Roy. I don't think he's a Christian, but he's written so many songs that point out how far some people disconnect their beliefs from what Christianity is really about, and I love that he acknowledges that there's a difference between people who do things in the name of a belief system and the tenets of the belief system itself.
While I feel (some) empathy for the Falwell family, I can not help feeling relief and a little joy at Jerry Falwell's death. Because of his constant hate-spewing, I can never tell my grandparents about my religion, the people I hang out with or the people I love. It is because of the hate of him and his ilk that I my friends are beaten. That is his legacy to all those close to me. So bravo Roy, for one of my favorite satire songs. Keep up the good work.
Happy Easter!! :-) When a talented poet challenges the authoritarian folks with wit, good humor, and truth, it sure seems to bring out the crazies in the comment column... Nice video Roy!! I heard this song for the 3rd or 4th time on Robbie Osman's radio show, so decided to look it up on RUclips! Thanks for sharing!! Outstanding!! :-)
Some people never outgrow the need for a security blanket; in a perverse way I'm thankful there are so many of them; it lessens the competition for many jobs, especially in the sciences ... it also dumbs us down from our collective potential. Some people never outgrow the need for self-indulgence and wear their fanaticism and ignorance as a badge of pride never realising one goes with the other.
Because I want to make up for clogging up Roy's comments with troll food, I gotta contribute some kudos. Roy Zimmerman = awesome. Keep posting the fantastic funnies!
He also said: The masses are like an animal that obeys instincts AND Only the fanaticised masses can be guided AND What luck for rulers that men do not think AND The art of all popular leaders consisted at all times in concentrating the attention of the masses on a single enemy. He was brought up Catholic and observed how power was used; he learnt from the best. You don't have to be too much smarter than average to be smarter than average.
against some forms of insanity which will not listen to reason, mockery is the most appropriate response. "and he made the lame to walk. and these were my friends, so they were still lame but they could walk!"
I just bought 16 tracks of his from ITunes last night. My non-RUclips favorites: "Everybody's Ugly", "Fucking for Chastity", "Kill a Doctor for Christ", and "When the Saints Go Marching Into New Orleans" (as a cajun funeral march = brilliant!). "America" has sharply hilarious analogies as well. :-D
« Everyone of us will be standing before God oneday » If it exists and gives everybody an audience. « all God required(s) of humans is to believe in Jesus Christ » And to obey his commands, et cetera. Don't worry, you're not required to be a good, moral person, as long as you believe and obey.
you are alright rebecca and I think you know in your deepest heart, the part where you are truthful with your self, you know whats right and wrong and just because a religious figure like a priest or nun or reverend or whatever does some terrible thing doesnt mean God is to be blamed. God is into a personal relationship not a representative relationship--peace
watched your very personal video szrgril. Sending you many thanks for your response to my post and....more-so...well wishes and thoughts of hope. Keep fighting, my friend.
Well if you have ever listened to Falwell, Robertson, and that ilk you may realize that there is a tragic misprint in the Bible where it says "He made the lame to walk." The actual interpretation according to the International Just Logical and Not Necessarily Theological Association of Realists and Medical Marijuana Growers is: "He made the lame to TALK"
You know you struck comedy gold when you listen to this almost 20 years later and it's still ring true. 😂
15 yrs ago and this still is relevant
"I am no heavenly host but I throw a decent party"... genius!
Being in heaven with Jerry Falwell is the same as Hell. There is no way an eternity with pure Evil and Hate can be good.
I must say, Roy, you have got to be one of the single greatest comedian/musician/satirical performers I have yet to see, a huge thumbs up to you.
Christopher Hitchens said: "If you gave Falwell an enema he could be buried in a matchbox."
LOL! Yup! genius way of saying how full of shit Falwell was...
One of his best quotes ❤
Wish he was still here on the forefront, we need more like him rn.
@@scottblack7182 wasn't Hitchens a big proponent of invading Iraq?
@@eldrago19Yes he was. Hitchen’s views were all over the place. He was against the Vietnam War but after 9/11 he abandoned his anti-war views. I followed Hitchens as I am an atheist, and he was a brilliant atheist!

I'm impressed that 117 folks from the 700 club watched this video!
It's up to 4000 after 17 years lol.
Roy is in fact one of the sane voices in America. Learn your history, man. Also: lighten up.

"And I thought, 'Man, you ARE the town square.'"
That one took me a moment.
Roy Zimmerman is my hero, together with Penn&Teller... Keep on winning point positivists... uauhuahuhahu
Bless you my child, that was freaking good
Rocket

This guy is my kind of crazy!
Jerry Falwell puts the "MENTAL" in FundaMENTAL!
Another great satiric ditty from Roy Z.
man no matter how many times you see this vid it never gets old.
a zimmerman classic!!
Great points made, especially on "What Jesus would NOT do!"
Oh My GAWD!!!!! How fabulous was this?!?!?!
3:32 Roy singing "JERRY FALLWELL'S GOD" in that voice sounds JUST like Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy and I cannot get it out of my head. I can't be the only one that hears it, holy cow.

God yes, yes, and yes.
yess weekly segment on the daily show is very much needed
man, you ARE the town square! always gets a laugh from me.

Roy Zimmerman is by far my new favorite artist.
"Jesus would not wreck a guy's party"
This comes into my head at least once a week
well he tries to join in but the siesta music sucks
That was a great song, Roy! Those 111 people who disliked this video obviously have no sense of humor or sense of real decency...
5 STARS!!!
That was so cool, I don't even know what to say.

This guy is briliant...a satirist of the finest calibre!
Dang it all Roy, How the Hell did I miss this one???, It's>>EPIC :)) Sincerely Gee☆Lee.

best line in the whole song :)
man, you ARE the town square!
Yeah, that film is quite interesting. Food for thought, definitely.
I *adore* Dorothy Parker. Such a witty lady and one of my favorite poets! Now I just love her more. Thanks for letting me know this!
That's awesome! I'll have to remember that one.

Pity I'm living in a country of non-believers they don't know how much FUN christianity can be.
you songs are fantastic!
AWESOME! 5 stars, favoured, and bought the CD!
Thank you SO much for summing up exactly why I left Christianity.
So fitting a tribute to he dead - Jerry - thank Gawd. Great ditty man.
What a great performance to bad Jerry's not here to listen to this wonderful song!
He may well have done way back when (he died three months after this video went online). I hardly reckon it reduced him to tears.
This is a great tune, but, the best line comes from the comments section: "What about the good Jerry Falwell has done?"
Now that's comedy!
LOL!
i favorited this one many yeatrs ago and i still love listening to it :)
thxs roy :)
Dude, you're hilarious, and you have great musical talent. Keep this stuff comin'!
By the way, I commend your service in Vietnam. Whether or not the war was just, you guys deserved better when you all got home.

Thank gods for this video!
I just watched this song and the creationism song. You are just one heck of a priceless man! Great job!
