  • Christopher Columbus (c. 1451 to May 20, 1506) was an Italian explorer and navigator. In 1492, he sailed across the Atlantic from Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta and the Niña ships alongside, hoping to find a new route to India. Between 1492 and 1504, he made a total of four voyages to the Caribbean and South America and has been credited for opening up the Americas to European colonization. #Biography

@@scrip83 He was initially sympathetic towards the Hispaniola Natives, until he discovered they are vicious cannibals and then they massacred all his companions he left behind in a town he set up on his first voyage. Not too many bodies were recovered at the burnt down town, but many remains were recovered at the native camps, cannibalized.

I love how history has changed. The beginning of the British (american) colonies didn't have many people obviously. The people that came in the 1600's wanted a better life. here is the question. Most of the families stayed made farms outside the settlements, working farms etc. Does anyone think that a family living alone, would go out killing natives when they know there are hundreds all around them? Of course not, that's suicide, they usually had children..Or did the natives see easy marks for plundering?? Of course not they were peaceful lol. They had done it for centuries against the other tribes. If you read actual documents from that era, that's basically what started the Indian wars.

Imagine you were a child in 1460 reading stories of Marco Polo and dreaming of one day going to Sipango & Cathay just as your "Pis an" Marco Polo did.
Imagine as a teen reading about the great navigators of Portugal.
Imagine as a young man, you move to Portugal to sail with the worlds greatest navigators and imagine you marry into a powerful Portuguese family.
Imagine your Portuguese wife suddenly dies.
Imagine you're thrown out of your house by your deceased wifes powerful family who own the residence and declare you and your young son foreign squatters.
Imagine telling your young son that he has been disowned by the only family he ever knew.
Imagine, you have nothing and you are a homeless single Dad with only one skill
after a lifetime of making others wealthy working on their merchant and mercenary voyages.
Imagine you are 32 year old living in a foreign country with your young son surviving by the food and shelter provided by monks.
Imagine you take a chance and write a letter to a Padre in Spain asking him to get you an audience with the Queen of Spain because you have an offer to make and a very rare map to show.
Imagine you write to the Spanish Padre with a passion that transcends words and you move a foreign Padre to act on your behalf.
Imagine The Padre asks you to come to Spain immediately.
Imagine being financially Broke, Spiritually broken, heart broken and fearful, yet you take your young son and you leave Portugal on foot, while holding the reigns of the donkey carrying your son and your one bag.
Imagine while walking, you remember when you almost drown and had to swim for two days after the ship you were on sunk a few miles off shore.
Imagine your son remembers, and writes about it years later as if God pulled you from the grip of death and returned you to this Earth for a special purpose.
Imagine in your bag there is a map made by your Cartographer brother Bartolome who had seen and transcribed more maps than anyone in Portugal which was the greatest seafaring nation in the world at the time.
Imagine you arrive in Spain always fed and sheltered by monks, you beg the Spanish Padre to get you an audience with the Queen of Spain who was busy trying to free Grenada, the last part of Spain still occupied by Moors after hundreds of years.
Imagine the good Padre gets you the next best thing, a meeting with the Queens council at the University of Salamanca.
Imagine -- you know going into this meeting that the council wants to hear you will convert all souls you encounter to Christianity, so what will you do?--you oblige them.
Imagine---You know going into this meeting that they want to hear about Gold, Spices and a New Trade route to Asia, and so you oblige them. But, you know why you want to sail west, and thats all that really matters to you because you want to achieve what no one had done before because you believe you were chosen for this task by the almighty.
Imagine--The Unfortunate result of all your efforts when the Queens council at Salamanca denies that its possible to cross the Ocean and they site the works of great Christians who previously deemed the Ocean uncross-able thereby denying your request, and frighteningly they become suspicious of you, your intentions and your foreign accent.
Imagine after all that (in the middle of The Spanish Inquisition) you hear a knock at your door in the middle of the night, and you are arrested and brought before "The Inquisitors" who inquire about your religion.
Imagine you narrowly escape torture and death at the hands of the Spanish Inquisition by demonstrating your knowledge of The Bible over hours of intense an angry questioning.
Imagine how you would feel at this point.
Imagine, after years of denials, insults and imprisonment for heresy, you remarry in Spain and become a citizen of Spain.
Imagine people start talking about the crazy idea you proposed to the Queen of Spain.
Imagine one day, a navigator by the name of Pinthon comes to talk to you and meets you in a monastery.
Imagine this Pinthon guy tells you about a banker named Santangel who finances his merchant sea voyages around the Mediterranean Sea.
Imagine being 39 years old and finally you realize ...Its that simple...BANKING!!!
Imagine as it turns out, in her efforts to free Spain from the Moorish occupiers, Her Majesty Queen Isabela happened to be indebted to that same Jewish Banker named Santangel who financed Pinthon.
Imagine ...Suddenly, Queen Isabela decides to over rule her council and wash out her debt to banker Santangel by now endorsing your voyage.
Imagine Pinthon provides his Ships- La Nina, La Pinta y La Santa Maria under the Spanish Flag by order of the Queen all financed by the banker named Santangel.
Imagine The Queen agrees to grant you the title of Spanish Admiral of the Ocean Sea, if you achieve the navigation. And, if you can seize territory in the name of Spain and bring Gold and Christian Converts to Spains new Christian territories.
Imagine the Queen agrees to give you a Royal Title that will pass to your descendants if you can do all that.
Imagine- Nobody wanted to be a crew on such a voyage.
Imagine Queen Isabela grants a pardon to any prisoner who wished to join your voyage.
Imagine heading out into "the sea of darkness" with a crew made up of released prisoners who were thieves, murderers and rapists.
Imagine the feeling on the morning of August 3 of 1492 when you depart the Port of Palos as Captain of La Santa Maria and The Pinthon brothers captain of the other ships.
Imagine arriving in the New World at 2am on Oct 12 1492 after 4 attempted mutinies and two Ships sabotaged by drilled holes made by crazed sailors who now look at you like a Hero, especially after the saw the women.
Imagine you find gold in these new lands and you name them for Spain.
Imagine you invite the Guanahanni Indian Chief aboard the Santa Maria for a party on Christmas day 1492 and the Chief brings tobacco and you all get wasted on alcohol and tobacco.
Imagine the Santa Maria Breaks up on the Rocks and 39 of the Spanish men must stay on Hispanola until they can return.
Imagine returning to Spain becoming a legend, becoming a royal and becoming the target of jealousy and envy of many powerful sea Merchants in Spain.
Imagine getting 1000 very qualified men for your second voyage to The New World.
Imagine returning to Hispanola with 1000 heavily armed Spaniards and finding 39 dead and dismembered white Spanish men hanging from trees.
Imagine hearing how 39 HEAVILY Outnumbered Spanish white men were savagely dismembered by natives in the New World.
Imagine why Columbus was jailed back in Spain for not immediately retaliating.
Imagine How the Spanish become CONQUISTADORS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine how few ever asked the simple question----WHY?

You have no idea how absolutely apropos that comment really was. I thank you one thousand times for it. Why? A Talking Heads song called "This must be the place" came blaring out of a Bahamian Radio station at 2am on the morning of Oct 12 1992. while we were getting crocked on Rum and celebrating the Quin-centennial celebration in 1992. 3hrs later nobody could remember the words to that song, so they all started singing "Letting the days go by." Uncanny!
I believe Jim Morrison said it best.."This is the Strangest life I've ever known!"

Columbus was an Iberian. Their is no documented evidence of ever having been in Italy. Upon his completion of four voyages to the New World, no visit to Italy or celebration there. Instead he returned to Spain. All his documents were in Spanish and signed his name as such. His brother, wife and siblings were Spanish. These are all facts and are not disputed.

In Asian scriptures the only region was known as Suwanipumi / Suvarnipumi meaning LAND / ISLAND OF THE GOLD during ancient time was Se-Asia aka Greater India. Christopher Columbus wanted to reach Se-Asia where he could've brought spices and GOLD back to Queen of Spain for profits, but instead he reached Caribbean (West Indie) assuming these aboriginal Americans was East Indie ( Se-Asain) and start demanding for golds. Make so much sense than the history being taught by mainstream history..

He never set foot in what is the United States today but the Carrabeans so when people say he discovered America they mean the Americas meaning the whole continent. He's Italian yes but he sailed for Spain since the King and Queen of Spain funded his voyage and brought with him some Spanish crew. Italy was still a bunch of kingdoms still and were never part of the conquest as for Spain they had just reconquered their land back from the moors and felt the voyage with Columbus would help bring riches back to Spain and the rest is history. Also it was literally explained well in the video so I'm not sure how you made that thought up 🤨

  • @JamesSmith-by3qy

Rusty Marquis, Columbus is responsible for the genocide of millions of indigenous people. He wasn't misguided, he was literally one of the most evil people who has ever lived. It is a national shame that America celebrates this monster every October 10th.

    • @rustymarquis3879
      @rustymarquis3879 8 лет назад +3

Certainly he is not directly responsible; Columbus gets far too much credit for these tragedies when in reality he was just a symptom of the much broader historical forces that, in retrospect, seemed inevitable.
Don't confuse what I am saying though; the processes he unleashed were evil, pure and simple. But the greed that pushed him and many other nations and ethnic groups to explore and conquer was, and is, far worse.
      Cheers!

    • @lwst1988
      @lwst1988 8 лет назад

Rusty Marquis True, you do have a point. He was under orders from the Spanish monarchy, and he was told to bring back gold or something of value, and although he didn't find much gold, he found people he could use as slaves. So no, the genocide that followed wasn't directly his fault, but he was still the patsy to a greater evil.
