The authentic fish n chips is supposed to be bland with no smell of fish. That’s how people like it!! I think you haven’t tried fish n chips earlier!! Well, fish n chips in India is completely different with masalas😂
Irfan, the thing is I would have much appreciated if you had been outspoken like this about some worst restaurants that you reviewed in India (TN). You were very polished in your reviews because they are local businesses in Chennai (or TN) but because you are probably not going to visit Gordon Ramsay's restaurant again you were so outspoken in thrashing which is the right way to go. Please do the same to any bad food any bad restaurant you review in the future.

Fish and chips is supposed to be bland. Brittan are known for bland food, when a someone from Asia who grew up with spice eat food like fish and chips they will feel like it’s bland.

Irfans issue wasn't that it was bland, his comment was that he couldn't taste the fish at all, it was just plain dough. Irfan has travelled the world and even lived in the US prior ,so it's not asian thing or a bland thing ...his comment is he could not taste the fish at all .
That's true, for our indian people , that taste won't suits, so we can't blame them... they used to eat with bland food, we always eat with spicy masala..

British people and most Americans tend to not like fish that has strong flavour and smell... So, they always eat the kinds of fish that has very less flavour... You must have noticed that the fish they use is not something that we see here... And, its not really bland... Its just that the amount of flavour in those fish is just so subtle and they prefer to enjoy such subtle flavours, unlike us Indians who are used to eating strong flavours cause of our extensive usage of spices in our cuisine... There is even a funny saying that the British succeeded in conquering India for the spices but they never succeeded in figuring out how to use them... 😅
You should try at his Michelin rated restaurants. Enna rate u innum bayangaramaa irukkum. If you need fine dining at elegance. Fast food maari restaurant la sumaaraa dhan irukkum.

Irfan,in Europe tastes differ, you can't expect everything to taste spicy or fishy in this instance... Cod or haddock is predominantly used for fish and chips and it's less fishy !! that doesn't mean it's not good because of your taste buds mate.. you need a refined platte not an Indian pallet if your tasting different foods from different countries.. peace

bland? thats what fish usually tastes like when it isnt covered in indian/asian spices like you are used to. It's a different flavor profile, usually enjoyed by seafood lovers that like the natural taste of seafood.

Fish and Chips is an incredibly popular street food dish in both England and Iceland and is supposed to be bland. The fish inside is supposed to melt in your mouth like that.
Infact naraya places la Beer battered ah irukum, so if you haven’t consumed alcohol till you, you probably did after this.
Ofcourse you’re entitled to your opinion and everyone is … but when you’re known to be food reviewer and make a living out of this, it is expected that you have some knowledge of the food that you’re going to taste. Because it could affect a lot of people directly and indirectly.
Your review is probably not going to affect Gordon Ramsay’s brand or his sales but if you put up the word “disappointed” in the thumbnail for some small restaurant it could significantly affect their sales despite doing justice to their products.
Actually only Indians call it as French Fries, it is not French fries, It is just called Fries. The first time I called it as French fries in Belgium the people here got angry and corrected me and told that it was actually first time cooked in Belgium and called as Fries., where did French come from?!
