  • Practice this 10 minute Stoic meditation to improve your focus, mood, and resilience. This meditation covers the dichotomy of control, the idea that some things are up to us, others are not. Stoicism says that we should focus on and attach ourselves to those things of the first kind, the things up to us, and that we suffer necessarily when we focus and place value on the things we do not determine.
    Build your resilience and focus on what matters with Stoa: www.stoameditat...
    ******
    Stoa is the Stoic Meditation and Journal app for practitioners and doers. It combines the practical philosophy of Stoicism with mindfulness meditation.
    Stoicism is "Buddhism with an attitude." Emerging from ancient Greece and Rome, it is a philosophy that has been adopted by entrepreneurs, athletes, and psychologists. The philosophy inspired the development of cognitive-behavioral therapy, an effective treatment of anxiety and depression. Stoicism has helped millions of people improve their focus, resilience, and virtue. Recently it has been championed by authors like Tim Ferriss, Ryan Holiday, Massimo Pigliucci, Donald Robertson, and Nassim Taleb.
    Stoa includes:
    * Hours of guided meditations.
    * A private journal.
    * Thousands of quotes. Curated by author and philosopher Massimo Pigliucci with readings and analysis from his Stoic Meditations podcast.
    * Conversations with experts.
    The meditation course begins by introducing the core Stoic disciplines of judgment, desire, and action. Through meditating regularly, you can practice these disciplines. In this course, you will also be introduced to the key Stoic philosophers: Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, and Seneca.
    After completing the introductory meditation course, Stoa introduces more advanced Stoic meditations such as the view from above, praemeditatio malorum, and meditations on death and gratitude.
    With the hours of guided meditations and a journal, you too can practice Stoic philosophy and apply the principles to your life.
    Stoa also includes a journal. Use Stoic principles and questions as prompts to build a daily journaling routine.
    In addition to guided meditations and a journal, Stoa includes a library of stoic quotes and principles. The philosopher and author Massimo Pigliucci personally curated and sourced more than a thousand quotes. You can turn to these quotes and principles anytime.

    Excellent meditation - I like that you stop talking and give a chance for reflection. So many guided meditations don't do this well. Thanks for sharing.

    Great lesson. I’ve been a long time practiced of mindfulness meditation, but recently I have been leaning hard on a Stoic mindset because of the insanity of US politics right now. I could either let it upset me, or realize it’s all out of my control and operate within the bounds I have, while still helping where I can.

    I don't have to carry the burden of the whole world on my shoulders. I can't change other people and I don't have to. It's an impossible task. All I need is piece of mind and be content with the way I do things. That's enough.

    Thank you for the meditations videos, helps a lot to stop the insecurities.
    The Epictetu's quote reminded me of the beging of Ralph Waldo Emerson's Self-Reliance: Ne te quaesiveris extra (Do not seek outside yourself).

    Problem i have meditating on this is I consider every main desire can be obtain partially by your actions in life (love, money , health) . Detaching from things out of your control is hard, since you can always influence your life to a certain degree if you act towards your desires. Otherwise we would just be born with a destiny and anything we did or said would not matter or influence the final outcome.

      Deataching is hard indeed, but it's still very helpful. I really thought I couldn't for tears I've been trying and now I'm finally starting to do it. People think is just something you do one day, but it takes years of constant reminders and meditation and introspection on what's important. If you are patient enough to work your way around deataching, life will be so much more easy, and many of the worries you have now will go away. So I highly recommend

      There is a subtle difference that will impact you immensely. Rather than assuming this teaching is instructing us to let go of the reigns completely, instead consider taking all the actions you can but letting go of the results. In this way, youre still affecting your life where possible, but not suffering over the components out of your control.

      Yes, most cannot be detached in an instant without significant training and experience.
