Is there a jazz venue in Austin that has jazz/improvised music that focuses on modern composers like Ralph Alessi, Craig Taborn, Kris Davis, Eric Revis, Jonathan Finlayson, etc.etc.etc? Or is the scene primarily made up of music from the 1940's, 50's, and American songbook standards?
Hi Magan, there are a ton of fantastic musicians across the scene in Austin playing music inspired by legends across all genres. Here at Monks, we've found that highlighting the hard bop tradition has been a favorite of fans, the musicians we are able to hire consistently, and for new fans of our channels. We're not familiar with any venues in Austin currently live-streaming the realm of music your referencing, although you can check out Epistrophy Arts and Sonic Transmissions, two fantastic music presenters based out of Austin!
