This was amazing. Letting it stand for 30 minutes made a world of difference. 👍

Hi Inndy... thank you for the comment.... and I am glad you liked my tip.... it really does make a difference, as does using the best and ripest tomatoes you can find.
      Thanks again!! :)

Hi Christopher! Thank you for the comment.... no, you do NOT need to add any olives..
The main salad would be the onions, tomatoes, and the dressing, really. It's the most basic, (but my fav), but the cucumber is also traditional. The feta, olives, bell pepper etc., are all additions to the salad, so if you do not like olives, leave them out or serve on the side for those that like them. Same for the feta. Customize it how you like. I just gave you mom's full version.
      Thank you again,
      John

It's not a legit salad without the Feta and kalamata olives.

Thank you for the comment... it is erroneous, but thank you anyway.

@@MomsGreekKitchen Nothing erroneous about it. The only "Greek" items in this salad are the Feta (must be made from sheep's milk and from Greece) and the Greek Kamalata olives. Without those items, you simply have cut-up produce from your local grocery store / farm / garden.

@@knappyknapps9597 The salad is called horiatiki in Greek... which means village salad. It was THE produce that made the salad, the best ripe tomatoes along with the onion and cucumber. The feta and olives would have been served on the side, as mezethes, like any standard Greek table would have on it. You could add them to your salad or have them as stand alone items if you desired. A simpler version of this is called domatosalata... which is ONLY the tomatoes, onions, and the seasonings along with the olive oil... that is MY favourite of the "Greek' salads.
I am not sure where you get the idea that it MUST have feta and olives... are you even Greek? Trust me when I tell you, that my parents and their siblings and their parents ALL made this salad, and they were ALL born and raised in Greece. And I NEVER actually had this salad with feta and olives ON it/IN it, until I went to a Greek restaurant in my country of birth...ie: not in Greece. I never had it with feta and olives on the occasions where we travelled to Greece to visit family...so again, I am not sure where you get the idea that it MUST have feta and olives... but thanks for the comment.
Oh!? One final point... this channel is a tribute channel to my mom's Greek kitchen... and this is how SHE made it... don't like it? Don't make it... simple as that.
      Have a lovely day! :)
