This was a highly requested followup video from my last video, so hope it resonates with many of you! Also, be sure to head over to my RUclips Community page this afternoon! I’ll be announcing the two lucky giveaway winners of the Hermès Bastia and the LV cardholder! Thank you! 💕
The scarcity mindset drives one to endlessly consume out of fear, which most folks with immigrant background, myself included, grew up with. It's been a failing yet trying journey for me to grow and to foster the abundance mindset. I'd love to hear about your personal journey in this regard. Thank you for sharing.
So interesting. I think this works the other way too (at least for me), where the scarcity mindset drives me to keep working hard to make money so I can save more money for the future and my kids. Either way, whether it’s saving or spending, any extreme is not healthy for us, right? I think I went from one side of the pendulum to the other and now it’s time to find my center. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
You seem so thoughtful and smart. I love your reasons, and I agree with all of them! Luxury is starting to feel like fast fashion on RUclips, and I feel it no longer feels special when you can get something so quickly. When you put thought into the items you get, your wardrobe is well curated and you're less likely to sell it because it doesn't have a purpose (and lose money). I love the bags you own! Classic, special (metallic Chanel), and useful.
Great point! I actually have a wishlist, it is not for just this year though, it is just the one and only wish list to see what items are on my mind and how long they last on there! Sometimes, I cross it off my wishlist after a few months if I don't want it anymore. My wish list has helped me keep track of how long I waited until I made the purchase and it is an achievement once I purchase one of the items because I have to diligently save up for any one of the luxury things on my wish list! But I agree that the wishlist doesn't necessarily help everyone from impulse buying. :) And sometimes...impulse purchase ends up being one of the best purchases!
Love to hear your thoughts about luxury shopping. I did a lot of pandemic purchases and I am at same stage of trying to enjoy them. Planning to have a 'no buy' year for 2022🤞
Wow a no-buy year!! For certain categories or altogether non-essentials? I did a no-buy for clothes several years ago and loved it. It was a fun challenge even though some of my friends thought I was crazy, I really enjoyed it. It helped to curate my wardrobe and simplified my closet. Hope you’ll enjoy your process too!!!
Hello CWC, I appreciate your channel so much. I appreciate the message that you share with the world. I feel it’s such a healthy approach to finding that delicate balance with shopping and saving.
I have a waitlist (sleep on it, deliberate why I need something) and JOMO has really grounded me. Abundance and gratitude, too blessed to be stressed ❤️ Keep up your luxury minimalist journey and content 🙏🏻
Wow! I loove love love your channel! I love how you add mindfulness to your videos. With fashion, youtube, and IG its a constant scroll of new things and the desire to get, have, & buy never ends. But i love your touch of mindfulness and its refreshing that no one has!
For many reasons, this video really resonated with and (hopefully) grounded me. I'm 23 and have just started my designer bag journey. I feel like I've unintentionally adopted the scarcity mindset you talk about. Thanks for sharing your perspective on all this! I love watching all your videos꞉)
+ For someone who is indecisive and tends to get distracted easily, having a list (and especially Pinterest boards) of things I want is immensely helpful. I often revisit lists from months prior and go "eugh, so not me", but at the same time, I feel conflicted because I do want to step out of my comfort zone and dress to my personal ideals, rather than hold myself back from lack of confidence / not being "ready."
Thank you so, so much for sharing! I love your channel and feel so connected with your thoughts and especially in this video at this time in my life. I’m full… with my consumption. So full, I can’t “digest” or appreciate what I have. I’m window shopping my own closet at this point and need a pause. I’ve purchased 2 of 12 items on my wishlist, and have zero interest in what I have left. DELETED, next. I’m in curate-mode now. I needed to hear this today. 🙏🏼
Balance is definitely key. I started my luxury collection in my early-mid 20s. Now I’m a 33 year old married, stay at home mom to a toddler boy with special needs so I’ve definitely slowed down. I am full, and just appreciating and enjoying all of the items I currently own. I’m sure in a few years, my love for buying luxury items will circle back around. 😊❤️
Great video, thank you! I agree with you (especially regarding the scarcity mindset). However I do like to keep a wishlist. I combine it with a yearly shopping budget so I can’t buy it all at once ;) The list helps me think about whether I really want the items and how I want to allocate my budget for the year. Some items have been on the list for years and others get removed after a month
@@hellocatwalkcity Yes, having a budget doesn’t allow me to buy everything that’s on my wishlist; I still have to prioritize what I want to buy for the year so that I can stay within my budget;)
I personally like to make lists. It gives me more structure to see what I really want and not spend my money elsewhere. With my list, I write it then forget it until I am about to make a purchase. I refer back to my list it to see if my purchase is worth while. Does it have to be from this brand or can it be a cheaper alternative? I also like to look at it at the end of the year to see if my preferences have changed. Sometimes it has, and it makes me happy to know I didn’t spent thousands of dollars on an item I no longer want. I am currently not at a stage where I can nor want to make luxury purchases on a whim. I will buy maybe one bag a year so I have to make it count. Thank you for the video. I love your perspective on money management.
Hello! I enjoyed hearing the reasons why you don't make a list! money is this balance between spending on the necessary, not squandering and giving yourself a gift! As they say, money in hand is a gale and for us to spend it without needing it and missing it in front is a not-so-distant step. kiss
You made some really good points. I've never made a wish list. Of course I think we all have a running list in our head of something we'd like to have or do someday, somewhere we'd love to go or see. I don't think I'd want a constant reminder lying around of what I want but don't have. Taking my focus away from what's all around me, not valuing and appreciating what I've already got. 🤔 ...Great video!😋
Abundance mindset instead of scarcity mindset is really smart. I do find it helps me with impulse buying to make a wish list, and also to prevent FOMO when I do buy impulse buy. When I do an impulse buy now, I do think about all of the things on my wish list (including my savings wish list goals) and what the money is truly worth. What is the opportunity cost of buying this item and is it worth it to me? It really helps. I also try to avoid impulse buying on limited edition collections now because I find FOMO can lead the decision when it is high pressure and limited time to decide.
I would really love to have this mindset but I don't know how to prioritise. Please could you share what you prioritise more over luxury shopping in another video and how that motivates you over luxury shopping. Thank you. Love your videos. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! I’ll be sharing a video soon on my money management tips/principles and that will reveal how I prioritize my spending. I’m hoping it will inspire and motivate others. Stay tuned!
you make a great point.. I am also that type of person that if I have a list, I want to check it all off. I hope to follow your journey to be more disciplined because I want to focus on other things in life this year other than luxury!
Thank you so much for this video! I was feeling so much pressure to make a wishlist video, I wasnt sure. I feel more comfortable foregoing that content now.
Whenever you feel pressured to do anything, stop and ask yourself - why doesn’t this feel natural or sincere for me? You’ll know the answer and then you decide if it’s worth following the crowd or staying true to you. 😉
I enjoyed your video even tho there were some things I don’t agree. For super obsessive impulsive shoppers which many of RUclipsrs of this type of content are, having a list really makes us a little more focus, think 2 or 3 times more before making that purchase. So I think what you said only works for a more prudent, conscious shopper like yourself which is awesome. Shopaholism is no different from any kind of addiction and having been in this community for so long, and seeing how social media has caused luxury consumption to explode in the last few years, it is a real problem.
I also don’t make a wishlist because I feel that it is limiting my happiness on those certain items. Over the years, I’ve learned to appreciate things just by looking at those eye candies and just get those things that I reaaaally want. Love how I can always relate to you!
One thing I am trying this year is to make a list of things I would like to buy which includes luxury, clothing and shoes and when I have saved up the money and I still want the item I will purchase. I only have 4 things on my list that I would like to purchase and I purchased the first item yesterday. 3 things to go. I’m doing this to track my spending better and to stop the impulse buying.
Really interesting and I definitely relate to your points. For me, I have made a list, I will try and stick to it, ( the items are older bags so it's the Preloved market ) because for me I get swayed so easily by a pretty bag or small leather good, that stresses me, I know what works and what I 'need' in my wardrobe and I want to make sure the money I spend is sensible. I am also like you with a list! 🙈 But because these items are Preloved there is more of a hunt, so it's fun, you can't buy everything straight away and when you find the perfect item it's special.
This was such a helpful perspective! I was wondering, since you mentioned this often, when you say you have no debt…does that include no mortgage or rent in New York City? If you are planning to do any personal finance videos in the future, I would be interested in learning how you’ve achieved this! Thanks for creating content with a balance between info, perspective, and “eye candy.”
My parents taught me the value of money very early on (as I’m sure for you and many other children from immigrant parents). It shaped me in such a way.
I have a wishlist so it’s interesting to hear your take. My list keeps me honest and it’s bags I have researched and really thought about versus being swayed by an SA or Instagram. However, on top of my wishlist I keep a list of bags I own and have sold with prices. I feel so blessed to even own anything luxury so my wishlist doesn’t feel like a checklist.
I kind of think I understand your thought process on getting things that attract your attention! Yes, to some it may look like impulsiveness, but if your purchase meets your criteria for affordability and want, then it’s more like decisiveness to me. I appreciate this is a very fine line and is not recommended for all personalities, but can be really rewarding! Like you, I don’t have a wish list but the items I buy will be heirlooms for my grandchildren. For example, I have a Patek Philippe watch that I love knowing is an appreciating asset (I hope) for my loved ones x
That's so funny because I have a list of items I want or need in my wardrobe. If its not on the list I don't buy it but it does make me feel anxious like I need to complete the list and the truth is the list will never be complete because there will always be things to want....it will never really ends. You are absolutely right about the abundancy mindset it's the only way to curb desire for non essential things.
So true about the never-ending list! 🙈 I do think we reach a point in our lives where the list gets shorter though. 😉 Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts!!
love your reasoning. I've struggled with making Wishlists in the past as I never stuck to them ahah, I keep a very unstructured photo ablum of items id be interested in so I don't have to feel like I need to check off a list
I'm with you on lists. I aggressively attack lists as well, so nonessential shopping lists wouldn't serve me well. 😂 That said, I LOVE lists for completing tasks. Marking things off is so satisfying.
Hi catwalk city … thank you for sharing for your thought to make me feel it is not only me !! First able I love all luxury item but yet make me think that is enough not add to my wish list and I am over it with Chanel item because the price increase so much couple times a year .. and i am just middle class… I just want to enjoy some luxury pieces. 🙏🙏❤️❤️👍👍
Thank you for sharing your thought, I can't agree more. Don't need a list for luxury shopping, as we already have pretty much anything we want, anything else we buy are either because they are meant to be (you know what I mean for Hermes) or we just love it at first sight when it comes out, as simple as that.
I absolutely loved watching this video. Thank you for creating such interesting content! This resonates with me so much. I made a wishlist last year of all the luxury bags I wanted to have in my collection and the goal was to have them before I’m 40 (I was 37 at the time). But I managed to check all the items off my list before I even turned 38 🤣 So I feel you. Wishlists are not really good for people with Type A personality. And while I still have 2 items on my wishlist for this year (simply because I live in India, and both those brands don’t have boutiques in India) - it works. As I can only get them when I travel abroad or my sister is visiting and can get them…so that is ok. I feel that it’s very important for me to take some time to enjoy, appreciate and get to know my bags for sometime, before I invest in another one. I have been enjoying a no-buy/low-buy period for the last three months and I still haven’t gotten around to feeling like I’ve justified my previous purchases. I am beginning to realize that I already have too much for my current lifestyle, and there’s no real “need” to acquire more handbags. I do want a Longchamp Le Pliage and a flap style bag from YSL at some point, but that will happen when it happens ☺️
Wow you powered right through your wishlist!! Type A for sure! 😂 I think it’s great you’re now focusing on enjoying what you’ve already acquired. There’s such satisfaction and gratitude in that process. 👌
I am loving your bags. I am loving your Chanels !!! 💕😍😍 Definitely eye candy 🍬 loving your Berkins as well. I would pic the same color. I’ve made a list but purchased many things that were not in there.
I love the reasons of why you don’t have a wish list… it all make complete since Especially feeling guilty about buying something that’s not on your list because I do that lol
really good points! I need to stay in the abundance mindset. I impulse buy a lot of fast fashion & i end up regretting and reselling them so they don't just go to waste. I could've just kept the money to begin with. Also at my income bracket I shouldn't be looking at buying bags that are an entire month of income for me. I am keeping myself in check lol
Yep I learned this about me last year. If I have it on a list, I MUST get it. This concept works great for my daily amd work tasks but I’ve learned to not to do that with shopping items. I just kinda have it in mind somewhere and go from there with a budget
Oh, I do love your reasons! Actually I did not make wish lists, but someone recommended to write wishes on paper and they will come true in 80%, 😂 Btw about impulse purchases - it may be a strawberry milk not Chanel bag :) so impulse buying may be about all aspects:)
I absolutely believe in the law of attraction and positive thinking and manifestation. So I’ve made spreadsheets for years where I write down how much money I want to make at each age, what type of job/title I want at each stage, when I want to have kids, how much I want to have in savings by each year, etc…. So these in essence these are my “wishlists” but I don’t call them that because I’m not “wishing.” I’m fully intending to make them happen and language is important!! My husband has even surprised every year that what I’ve written down always comes true. So yes, I’m with you on writing down what’s important!!! 💯 For me, that doesn’t include luxury shopping 😂 and yes I agree the impulse buying can include things like strawberry milk! So funny. 😉
Well said! For me I don’t have luxury wish list. Wishlist usually are my goals, and luxury items are nice to have, not my goal why I work hard. Same time I must admit certainly managed to waste a lot of my hard earned income without any “wishlist” in the last two years on the hyped luxury items😌 I must take steps this year to look at my own behavior
Make it a fun process! I find decluttering super satisfying and freeing! It’s therapeutic. If you’re holding on to things that don’t work for you, you’ll feel great when you let them go. 😉
I’ve been so tempted to buy new and vintage Chanel bags and I keep asking myself, do I need it? Does it add to my wardrobe? Does it have to be Chanel? So I created a color wishlist and look into more affordable brands. Hopefully I can find the colors I like and reach purse peace. You’re the voice of reason I hear when I’m drooling over another Chanel bag. I really don’t need anymore except for that caramel bag you have which I’m waiting for in the 22S collection 😁
Great content! Meanwhile I'm going to get one coach metallic tabby cause it's half off! But I definitely will use it. I simply can't afford another high end luxury bag.
It’s out of the context but have you thought of making a second channel where you discuss about anything but luxuries?? I mean I love your contents evolving around luxury items but I feel like your channel could be much more than that! You seemed passionate about having discussions about politics, finance, disciplining your children or yourself and so many more! Moreover it was impressive how you deal with those who have different opinions(months ago on Instagram) Anyways, my favourite video of yours so far is where you talked about Chanel’s financial crisis! It was interesting and I love how you articulate your opinions on such topics. Something to consider maybe? ;) Sending you lots of love from Canada! Stay safe!
Aw thank you for noticing! There are many topics I’m passionate about and I hope to be able to share more on this channel in 2022. I’m opening up more because this community has been so amazing. So thank you!
I just don’t see the point of wishlists. Just because you often don’t know what is being released. Plus, I tend to feel like a lot of items that end of up on wishlists are things that people feel like they should be buying. I love what you said about the lists you have are about your dreams for your life.
If the average impulse buy is 5 times a month that means you’ll impulse buy at least once a week. That’s very believable to me. That means if I go grocery shopping if I happen to see a food item not on my shopping list I’ll buy it on impulse. I don’t believe all impulse buys are luxury items or expensive items only.
Exactly! Impulse buying is such a real temptation everywhere we shop (not just luxury) so being aware of that fact is a big step towards adjusting our behavior, if we want to make changes.
I don't make a wish list either cos to me a Wishlist is something I absolutely need in my life but luxury items are not necessities. A wishlist to me will be something like" I wish to pass an exam, wish to get the promotion I deserve and things like that, not luxury items:) Having said that I do love luxury and I have a few things but I can do without them:)
I don’t do wish lists either. It’s a non essential item, and I do lists for essential items. If it’s something I want, I buy it or save up for it so I pay for it right then.
There’s other RUclipsrs that make videos where they help their followers with curating their bag collection. Would you be able to do that for us as well?
I often give this type of advice to my subbies who DM me on Instagram. Not sure how I’d go about it on RUclips but it’s a great idea. I’ll think about it, thank you!
I love this video!! I agree with all of this and I am the same way! When I have a wishlist I want to rush through it and get it done and I started buying more faster and it doesn’t stop from impulse buys it also became stressful because I like to go on be free and see what is available and get something that is there that day with luxe brands making limited availability that made it harder and I would buy more faster it became excessive and was buying more than I should too fast I had to take a step back and delete my Bag IG account stop following luxe on IG and take a break from watching unboxings and luxe you tube because I didn’t want to get influenced or want something because I saw it I stopped looking at the websites and started to watch more content like this more minimalist even though I am not so I can still watch videos about luxe but more grounded and with good judgement and the influence I need I still love luxe and want to buy more but when I am ready right now I have other priorities so I don’t want to be tempted and I also was thinking I don’t want a wishlist I don’t want to plan to buy something because I’ll do it and I want to wait until I’m ready
I’m glad the video resonated. I understand the need to step away from IG and YT unboxing from time to time. I take breaks as well. No need to tempt ourselves more than we need to! 😉
❤️❤️❤️I totally get you! I don’t make a list either. If I want something really bad, I get it. If I don’t use it, I sell it. Sometimes I feel like my walk - in is made out of rubber, lol. 🤣🤣🤣 Majority of my closet I’ll be passing down to my 3 kids. No reason to sell either.
This was a highly requested followup video from my last video, so hope it resonates with many of you! Also, be sure to head over to my RUclips Community page this afternoon! I’ll be announcing the two lucky giveaway winners of the Hermès Bastia and the LV cardholder! Thank you! 💕

Finger crossed Bastia is a super cute item hope I win my birthday was yesterday 🥰🥳🥳

I also don’t make a wishlist because I feel that it is limiting my happiness on those certain items. Over the years, I’ve learned to appreciate things just by looking at those eye candies and just get those things that I reaaaally want. Love how I can always relate to you!
Yes!! And if we keep focusing on what’s on the list, we won’t be paying as much attention to the items we already purchased and can enjoy now! 😉
❤❤❤❤ with this content..My Wish list in 2022 is buying forever home 😊 hope this year don't have to rent again and make a lot of money for saving 😘
That’s great if it truly helps you with impulse buying! 👍
I share the same thoughts as you. You are not crazy! Ultimately, it’s all about balance in life~
Love the comment "psychological warfare" that's so true....been down that road too many times....exhausting...great video!😁
The hunt of vintage/preloved is something quite different and satisfying in its own way! I understand!
Thank you - I’ll try to answer this question in an upcoming video. Many have asked.
so true about us as an Asian immigrants. Thanks for sharing and I don’t have a luxury shopping list as well.
Absolutely, such a fine line!
Like I said before, I really love these type of videos. I don't do shopping lists too. Love all your reasons Hannah. ❤️
love your reasoning. I've struggled with making Wishlists in the past as I never stuck to them ahah, I keep a very unstructured photo ablum of items id be interested in so I don't have to feel like I need to check off a list
I think the photos are a great visual way to stay inspired without feeling like there’s a list haunting you!! 👌
I'm with you on lists. I aggressively attack lists as well, so nonessential shopping lists wouldn't serve me well. 😂 That said, I LOVE lists for completing tasks. Marking things off is so satisfying.
I’m a big to-do list maker myself! It’s just different when you’re trying to be productive and get things done vs go shopping for luxe items. 😉
Simple as that. 👌
Oh yasss first here I want to heard why not making wishlist 🤗🥰happy Saturday Hanna.
I absolutely loved watching this video. Thank you for creating such interesting content! This resonates with me so much.
I made a wishlist last year of all the luxury bags I wanted to have in my collection and the goal was to have them before I’m 40 (I was 37 at the time). But I managed to check all the items off my list before I even turned 38 🤣
So I feel you.
I am
beginning to realize that I already have too much for my current lifestyle, and there’s no real “need” to acquire more handbags.
Love the honesty. We’ve all purchased things that weren’t on our list. Happens to me all the time when I go to Trader Joe’s! 😂
Love your videos. Can you make one on your engagement ring? It’s looks amazing. 😍 constantly trying to catch a hint of it!
Aw thank you. Not sure my engagement ring could make a whole video but I’ll make sure to wear her a lot so you can see more of her! 😂
I love the reasons of why you don’t have a wish list… it all make complete since Especially feeling guilty about buying something that’s not on your list because I do that lol
Exactly!! These lists shouldn’t restrict us and make us feel guilty!
really good points!
Us Type A folks need to stay away from unnecessary list-making! 🙈
Thanks for making this video it makes sense I agree there would be no end to it makes me think 🤔
So funny. 😉
Love this! 💙
List or no list - we decide how and when to spend our money so if you’re not happy with your spending habits, no problem, you’re the one in control! 😉
I’m going to actually go through my stuff and let go of the things I really don’t use…. I really need to declutter😩
Color wishlist - that’s an interesting way to approach it!!
I make a planning to purchase list
And yesss shopping is starting to feel like a job lol
Well that’s not fun. 😂
@@hellocatwalkcity 😂😂
I don't make a wish list either cos to me a Wishlist is something I absolutely need in my life but luxury items are not necessities. A wishlist to me will be something like" I wish to pass an exam, wish to get the promotion I deserve and things like that, not luxury items:) Having said that I do love luxury and I have a few things but I can do without them:)
I completely agree with you
I don’t do wish lists either.
Totally agree 👍
❤️❤️❤️I totally get you! I don’t make a list either. If I want something really bad, I get it. If I don’t use it, I sell it. Sometimes I feel like my walk - in is made out of rubber, lol. 🤣🤣🤣 Majority of my closet I’ll be passing down to my 3 kids. No reason to sell either.
Closet made of rubber! 😂
I have no wish list because I’m more flexible with what can satisfy me when the time comes that will justify a luxury purchase.
Yes yes and yes! 👍
I didn't know wishlists was a thing until I started watching youtube 😅.
😂
First 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
I love all the colors 😍
Nudes & neutral 👍🏻
Thanking for sharing. Enjoyed the video very much.
