Thank you for watching our tour of Kedleston... this is one of our very favourite places and only 20 minutes from home. It is such a fabulous place so rich in architectural detail that each time we visit we notice something we haven't noticed before! So pleased you enjoyed looking around with us... very best wishes Neil and Ant 😊
Thanks for the tour, haven't been in eons, so it's nice to see what else is there. Nice to see they're adding flower beds. I watched a YT vid all about the peacock dress that Lady Curzon wore to a banquet in India (the portrait of her wearing it was near the museum) & the woman doing the video was going to try to replicate the dress as that's her field of expertise, historical dress. It was really interesting if you're into that kind of thing.
There's a brilliant 5 minute clip on RUclips showing some of the house pre National Trust and there's suits of armour and all sorts of family memorabilia it actually looks so much more like a home! The NT have taken it back completely to its period look so it does lack any feel of the family now, that said its a STUNNING place and one of our absolute favourites! Thank you so much for watching 😊
Ooo I'll have to check that out, thanks. I remember the NT were wondering whether or not to buy Keddleston or Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham as both came onto the market back in 1987 I think it was, when I lived down in Plymouth. I remember it being in the papers & my co-workers "oooing & aahhing" over both houses & not being able decide which they'd buy if they had a spare million lol.
@magdahearne497 its only 20 minutes from us we often go to just walk around the park and estate... I think the NT had to unexpectedly re roof it soon after taking over I'd imagine the ongoing maintainance is HUGE!
What a gem on your doorstep...Wentworth Woodhouse isn't far from where we live. I really wouldn't want to pick up the maintainance bill for either house...must be a nightmare 🌻
@@chrisisjustme7546 You 2 doing ok, always nice to see tours through English heirttage. 🤗 Love the castles, the government should do more complete renovations. All can get a bit of a kick of steroids in my eyes. 🤔😅
Yes doing great thanks for asking... we have the National Trust and English Heritage who have saved so many great buildings here... Hope you're doing well too
When in a large home as this the acoustics are going to be a problem as you cannot stop visitors from talking and it will echo through the halls etc. It is hard I would think to handle anything like this unless you ere the only people in the home. But as far as speaking loud enough with 'volume' etc that may be different? But I think it is just the acoustics and no one can help that. Do not know if anyone can cut out all background noise? Maybe you can, but it would happen if you were there in person, of course, as well.
@carolweaver3269 it is tricky as the acoustics are very echoey too... I was mindful of not being too loud as not wanting to spoil other visitors experiences the perfect scenario would be to walk around when no one else is there which would be amazing! Thank you for taking the time to comment it is much appreciated 😊
It's huge - as with so many of these 'homes' they are beyond ridiculous, obviously built & furnished for effect & to show off how important & wealthy their owners were. Those marble columns are not IMO beautiful at all - again - way too many & too much all at once. I can enjoy the artistry & talent of individual aspects of such places - a lantern, an arch, one or two columns, some of the pieces of furniture, all can be beautiful themselves, but not swamped by being in a room composed of countless other things equally fussy & complex. As I said what the owners of places like this were really doing was showing off, and they went to extreme ends to try to be 'top dog' in this realm they lived in !
You are right I'm sure they were built to display the wealth of the owners! So many beautiful objects inside too ... Thank you for commenting it's appreciated 😊
@tony8074 Hi Tony! They certainly celebrated the human form! We love Kedleston, it's on our doorstep so we often go ... Thanks for watching and commenting... Best wishes from us both 😀
Thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment... Kedleston is very much an everything to the extreme kind of property! Interestingly there was a video filmed in the 60s we saw pre it being handed to The National Trust when the family still lived there... it was full of all sorts of furniture and family items including suits of armour and the eclectic mix somehow toned everything else down... The National Trust have taken it back to pretty much as Robert Adam left it after it was completed minus all the personal possessions... Best wishes to you 😊

Nothing like classism for gratuitous nudity.😂

This building is too much NEOclassicism and too little classicism. But very much thanks for the visit. I would say Cheddar.
