This whole trade at a certain % is a double edged sword... What if it was a situation where he was trying to trade a $600 card? He would lose $120 right off the bat at "80% trade"... I know this particular scenario may be different because he is trying to trading up towards a bigger card, but I hear a lot of vendors tell customers that they have to be firm at their % rate for trade/buys because they have to cover costs for the table when that's exactly what the territory calls for lol, your expenses for the table should never be an excuse as to why you feel you can buy whatever comes up to your table at a discounted price just because you're standing on the other side of it. Just my two cents and something I've been meaning to have an open conversation about as someone who vends and walks floors often.
I want to even go further and add on that with this influx of "new content creators" trying to make content with cards.... there needs to be something of substance to stand out amongst the rest... anybody can stand behind a table and calculate % of values on their phone and that's all what these people see on the internet. I try to get deals done even outside of card shows where there is no vendor set up or anything like that and people are still tryna tax me 20% off for trades like come on now let's not kill what's already a beautiful game for an extra couple dollars.... money comes and money will go let's all be better

That's comical to see a vendor ask another vendor for straight trade and then have the nerve to turn down his higher value cards and wanting your higher value cards. Then try to convince you that its easier to sell 5 cards versus one card that is super liquid like he doesn't know exactly what he is trying to do.. Good on you calling that guy out. Been watching several of these types of vids from various channels and I have to say, you seem to be one of the best and fair when it comes to negotiating and selling. Keep up the great work and stay safe.
That dude is a clown, the 3 cards he wanted from you can sell so easily at any big show for market value and he's trying to do a straight trade with lower end hits. Thanks for not blurring his face, staying away from this joker at any show if I see him lol.
I just found this video and already start liking you guys for being straight and honest with everyone! I’m trying to be a small vendor myself, do you have any advice for a newbie like me?
Lmao thats a pet peeve of mine. Someone wants alt arts but doesnt want to trade alt arts for alt arts xD "I want your heavy hitters and I want to give you my smaller stuff".
straight trades do happen, when youre doing high end cards. Unfortunately his "heavy hitters" were laughable. The ones for trade anyways. good job shooing him away
Phhhhttttt 🤣🤣🤣! Straight trade for the heavy’s!? What a donut- and don’t bring a ‘heavy hitter’ binder if you don’t wanna trade anything that’s fair 😆🤡
No offense at 14:40 saying "Theoretically you can move those quicker because they're cheaper" is wild to say. As a vendor himself he would never do that because as you said "You would have to do more work." Not sure why he would say that.
We’re a new Pokemon shop in Orlando, and we’ve never done a show like this - with all the sites out there (eBay, TCGPlayer, etc), would you ever consider doing a video on how to do comps on cards? You guys are masterful negotiators and it always feels fair, love the videos, and can’t wait to see more!
Guy is just trying to swindle you. Online trading we call this. "downgrade with overpay." Aka the one trading up a bunch of smaller items needs to pay a premium for trading up to the more desirable item.
Damn I'm a rookie collector and even I can tell that this guy is crazy for even suggesting a 1:1 for that. All of this does make my own collection feel a bit weak though haha
I just wish people were up front about doing a deal at 80-85% instead of taking away time from other potential deals. To much work and then it’s a flop it your already 15-30 minutes in.
That dude clearly doesn’t vend at shows or he would know better than to expect straight trade. As a collector and a part time vendor, I myself sell stuff all the time at 75-90% with other vendor friends. Unrealistic expectations from anyone who thinks straight trade is standard, unless we’re talking high end like ponchos but that’s the 1% of us with those deals anyways.
One is a vendor while the other is a buyer. The vendor takes all the risk as they have overhead cost (paying for the space, time to sell the cards which daily market price can play a huge factor, and other expenses). Keep in mind at the end of the day this is a business and 80% is actually very good offer for anyone trying to trade in or offload their cards. eBay for example will take 13.25% off on top of taxes and a small fee for any card you sell and that’s not including the shipping cost. My opinion, anyone that wants to do straight trade shouldn’t be asking a vendor, there are many places for that some examples like Tournament gatherings, friends & etc.
I save him the time and effort of trying to sell his cards so that he can get the cards that he wants. Every cash deal in this video, I gave people under market or near market deals. It’s unrealistic to expect 100% value for every card your sell. So taking trades at 80% gives me a bit of margin to continue giving out under market deals, and some room just incase all 6 of his cards go down in price over night.
@@paullee8670 Of course I won’t feel good about losing out on $120 based on your example but this has nothing to do with my feelings lol. I just want to be clear that I am just answering someone’s question on why it’s not a straight trade. I am simply saying if you or I walk into a card shop right now with our cards and ask the owner to do a straight trade, 90% of the time they will say no. Only reason I can imagine them even entertaining a straight trade is if we have a card that they really want, know someone that will pay above market for it, or the card we want is far less liquid than what we are trading away. There is a place for straight trade but going to a vendor who is trying to make money and asking for even money/ trade doesn’t make much sense. Specially when the cards in this video are mid tier.
