Such an underrated song. It was probably a good indicator of the musical direction the band would have taken had they continued further into the 1980s (as evidenced by the later track "I Am the City" which wasn't released until the "More ABBA Gold" album in 1993). Fans didn't know it at the time, but that ending shot of them walking out of the warehouse became symbolic of the end of the band (at least until last fall).
How ironic is it that at the end of this video you see all members of Abba walking out of the building and the cameras fade away from them.... This was their last song and video and we never got to see them together again for another 39 yrs😪. Oh its so so good to have them back.😂 Thank you guys for another adba review💕 Take Care and Stay Safe 💖🇬🇧😷
It was their last video, but not the last song they did. The Day Before You Came was the last song they recorded before they went on an almost 40 year break. Thankfully they’re back! And they haven’t lost a step
ABBA's last single release in 1982. Their stronghold on the international singles charts was over by this time. The song only reached the top 5 in the Netherlands and Belgium but barely charted elsewhere. It was clear they didn't want to continue with ABBA any longer. Frida had already released her first international solo album, Agnetha was preparing hers and Bjorn and Benny had made a deal with Tim Rice to write a musical together. Writing and staging the musical would be a lenghty process so it was said at the time that ABBA would take a temporary break. For decades the break was believed to be permanent, until the release of 'Voyage'.
Hey tyler and marisa, ABBA is celebrating their 50th year as a group this year.. 1972 is the year they released their debut single People need love. U should react to that, to see where it all began
Well It was included in their platinum 2 vynil set hits album "Abba The singles the first 10 years" which topped the chart that year,so in a way it was.People prefered to buy the collection cause it was one of the two new songs along with The day before you came.
the last video by Abba together. They walk out of that door at the end, and you realize they aren't comming back, and you want to grab a hold of them and say wait a minute!! Come back, don't go yet! The look on your faces at that point in the video, your mouths a gape, body frozen, in awe, as they walk out of our lives for the next 40 years.
It's not one of my favorite songs but I do like it, it feels very futuristic! The video is so cool and mysterious, but you can tell there's a lot of tension between them, you can just feel that this was the end. Them walking through that door and into the light is almost like metaphorical since this was the last song and video they released (until now), not sure if it's intentional or not but it must be. I love your reactions! You still have so many amazing songs left, they have no bad songs!
The end where they walk through the shutter door signifies the end... or so we thought!! 39 years late, all ABBA fans get the most amazing gift.. ABBA Voyage
They walked out of the Garage in the end scene and walked into history....not recording again until now .... Review " If It Wasn't For The Nights"....one of their best from the Voulez Vous Album with a real Disco feel..
Everyone in the comments are mentioning "I Am The City" but let's move even more forward to now with "Keep An Eye On Dan"...now that's where I feel they were going to end up...that song is a pure masterpiece if you just listen to only the vocals...masterpiece, only instrumental...masterpiece!!! No matter how it's dissected, pure masterpiece!!!
I think this was the last video the group released in the 80s. It was so sad....they just walked out into the brightness and disappeared for almost 40 years. Bittersweet video. Loved this song.
That music video has become a very iconic one, because the end showed what happened to band after the singles was released (it was their final one nack in the days)... they walked out the door and were gone. For like close to 40 years as we all know by now. It's very unlikely they planned this to be the end of their career and to show that on a video, but it fitted so much to what was going on. 🙂 Well, you're right. They had some kind of "formula", although Benny & Björn always stated, the didn't know what it was. They've adapted so many styles to make unique and yet ABBA-esque songs, you can't even tell. And if you ever hear Björn latest song as a tribute to the birtday of one of his friends, you'll see, they could even have made a great country song if they had intended to. ABBA may not be everyones style of music, but you'll just have to admit, they were (and still are) geniuses.
ABBA makes us all happy my friends. It's one of the reasons why they are so loved. This was the last we saw of ABBA until their album last year as they walked of into the light. the four of them disappearing forever (or so we thought after a few years). I am the city as some have noted is a fantastic song that was developed just after, but released for the first time in 93. It's one that also grows on you with every listen. I reccomend that one or I let the music speak, or a different song called "Move On" next :)) But also I do still think you guys would absolutely love some of the videos of their live performances. i linked two links in two separate comments in your previous video. You've heard all the songs before, but you haven't felt or seen that live electric energy yet :)) Lastly by the way, if you want a fun music video from their earliest years, Try Ring Ring.
I also love this song and have been playing it on piano now for years. That chord change from E major to G#major/C is the crazy bit. The melody line doesn’t change, the chord changes under the melody. I have come to learn ABBA does this a lot. It really makes the songs intriguing because the melodies are often simple, but the chord changes and counterpoint vocals keep it all very interesting and gorgeous sounding!! ‘Me and I’ is another example of an ABBA song with amazing subtle key change underneath a melody line that stays the same.
They made a third voice for singing with both girls. They called, wall. This voice is at same time the voices of two girls. The two men were genious too.
In Nov.]82 after performing this on a German tv show the fans in the audience rushed furious on stage on a" luv attack" to hug them!Agnetha seemed scared but Frid loved it and a boy grabed her and kissed her in the mouth. This unedited version of this 21 min video(set list TBYC/CASSANDRA/UA)is in the net.
Great song mates, and great reaction as usual. This is their last music video way back in 1982. How cool is that that they come back at the end of 2021 to record great new musics❤️👍
The vocal effect is called a vocoder. ABBA used it in their later recordings after the Visitors album. They seem to apply it more to Agnetha than Frida. Agnetha used it once on her latest solo album “A”. They used it on I Am The City which I think you should react to. Also try reacting to Should I Laugh Or Cry!
I would suggest you to add to your list of Reactions these following gem of ABBA songs: Move On, Soldiers, Why did it have to be me (Live Australia 77), Happy New Year, Casandra, I am the city
Have a listen to I Am The City. One of the last songs they completed before they took their erm... short break 😂. We didn't get to hear it until 10yrs later and the end of the song blows my mind every time I hear it
From the same - late - era: 'Should I Laugh or Cry' or something completely different (definitely not the same, however unique, ABBA formular, this is really different): 'Like An Angel Passing Trhough My Room'.
This was the final song they videoed before their 40 year hiatus. The end of this video blends in so well with the climax moment of the video for I Still Have Faith In You.
Marissa and TCC... I do love your reactions, and I like the fact that you appreciate the musicality of the songs. This song was never a big hit here in UK but it was a strong song regardless. The video is a mini masterpiece, and I like the comparison between this and the Name of the Game. I love how in all Abba works Benny just looks like he doesn't care and really can't be bothered (e.g. at 5'10"). And now... a suggestion. Tyler you could cover an Abba song. I promise I will buy a copy if you do. So, the question for you and your subscribers is which one? If Marissa joined in, a song like "Why did it have to be me?" would work really well, or "Treat Him Well He is Your Brother." As a solo project TCC, perhaps The Day Before you Came or The Visitors. Or Sitting in the Palmtree (the chord structure in that is so catchy and it was performed by Bjorn, so written for a man).
That red flashing light at the end is like a warning sign to Abba fans saying ‘Abba walking away through that door into the light is the last time you’ll see them for 39 years, so soak it up’.
That vocal effect is a vocoder, which is a synthesizer that takes an input signal and turns it into a synthesized version of the original. It's kind of instant vocal choir from a single human voice. It was popularized in the 70s and was used less and less through the 80s. These days it has had a revival though.
My favourite ABBA song is the one I'm listening to and the one thats next, but this is tip-top. It's 12 notes btw guys. You thinking diatonic not chromatic. Check out a cover of a robot making the song about killing humans - great musically and very funny.
7:21..FREEZE that picture. This is a sad symbolic moment for many Abba fans. They took their way out leaving the music scene for 4 whole decades. They didn't even know it at the time though many of us felt it was the end until their retutrn in '21.Seems sometimes Goodbeye is bye for now.
Look forward to your reactions every week and gives me a whole new perspective on these wonderful songs after hearing them for 40 odd years.🥰 You definitely need to listen to One of Us and That’s Me very soon 🤞
Thanks for your reactions. For me you haven't discover the rock side of ABBA: Summern Night City - long video version over 4' or the fantastic TV Live Show "Dick Cavett Meets ABBA"; Does our Mother Know + Hole In Your Soul - songs package from Wembley Live 1979, full energy and passion, Abba best Live! Good week for YOU BOTH!!!
If you want to hear one of the best harmonies in an ABBA song check out a song called Cassandra. Fridas vocals are amazing but the whole story of the song about a woman/girl who predicts a terrible tradagy but is not believed is genius writing and a great melody.
Thanks for your comments etc. You should go to London to see Abba Vogage live. Saw it last year. It's amazing. Best wishes from Munich Germany. Take care Gerhard 👋
Yes, great track. An album track that was released as a single. You’ve yet to review Cassandra which appeared as the b-side to ‘The Day Before You Came’. What a surprise you have waiting there. I mean I’m in awe of many ABBA tracks including this one but there’s a section within Cassandra where the hairs on my neck literally stand on end. Other wonderful tracks are ‘Me and I’, ‘Dum Dum Diddle’, the clever ‘Two For The Price of One’ and ‘Should I Laugh or Cry’. Oh and if you love Frida’s voice then indulge yourself with ‘Put On Your White Sombrero’ and get out your castanets!!
More great Frida leads are "Andante Andante", "I Let The Music Speak" or "I Wonder". And for Agnetha leads "One Of Us", "Thank You For The Music" or "Slipping Through My Fingers". I hope we will soon see reactions to these songs. 🥰
Wonderful Abba! They grew all the time, just got better and better .. That they later made a comeback after almost 40 years with a successful album is Fantastic! We fans are so happy ♥ ️🎶🎵♥️
Try Benny and Bjorn’s musical Chess. One night in Bangkok and I know so well are the 2 lead songs and you just knew that if Abba had stayed together, the music would’ve got better and better.
One of my favorite ABBA songs. I always felt like their music was somehow connected to aliens (or maybe they were tapped in some way) And then with "The Visitors" they were kinda letting us know that. It's cool how this was their last video, like an X-Files episode, then they walk out into the shining light at the end - like getting abducted, then not returning till 39 yrs later
If u liked this one u should try I am the city. Abba recorded it in 1982 but they never released it until 1994 long after their break in -83. It’s one of a kind song. Very ahead of its time. 👍
I love watching your reaction to ABBA!!! Gives me hope for the younger generation!! Future reaction suggestions: "I AM THE CITY", "SUMMER NIGHT CITY", "SLIPPING THROUGH MY FINGERS".
Under Attack Is a good song, but in the personal opinion my favorite music video is Knowing Me, Knowing You for the total harmony of the voices with the instruments and the snow weather that with the hugs add warmth. Despite the sad lyrics, all of the above makes it captivating.
As others have already pointed out and as a follow up to your comments on Under Attack you guys should react to I Am The City. Benny was clearly going synthy back then. That song was so ahead of its time, catchy... you said it yourselves... they just keep surprising us trying out new ideas.
It’s a nice song, but not a huge favourite of mine. The big hits left are One of Us, I have a Dream, Summer Night City, Voulez Vous. Loads of other great ABBA songs still to react to. Plenty of great suggestions so far. Loco Loco good fun.
@@marissa6805 I bet that makes them happy that you can share such a mutual appreciation for this amazing musical group!! And thank you to both you and Tyler!! As a long time ABBA fan myself (since the 1970s), you are both noticing and pointing out things about their songs that even I didn't catch...even though I am so familiar with their music. I like them even more now because of your astute observations!! And also thank you for spotlighting some of their lesser known songs!! They are all works of art!!!😊
There's a version of this on youtube that's a studio demo before this final version was released, and I actually like the studio demo version better than this final. ruclips.net/video/3l5V6KsTyCk/видео.html
Abba ft. Daft punk😂 the vocoder is the instrument they used for the distorted vocals of Bjorn in this track.. This is the bands final release from their original heyday, them walking out of the warehouse into the blinding lights, it's symbolic as they were to take a break a few months after filming this clip. I believe they're all tired being in the group ABBA was their life for a 10 year period, they need to take a breather but it became permanent lasting 40 years until the album voyage last November
ABBA can really make us happy, sad, all feelings!
Under Attack is one of my absolute favorites of ABBA’s. I think it’s so underrated
Such an underrated song. Wait until you hear I Am The City! With all the complex layering, counterpoint and harmonies! Love that song!
Agreed!
Yes, you should react to I Am The City. They also used a vocoder for voice effect.
I Am the City is one of their best for sure! Highly recommended!
Hey tyler and marisa, ABBA is celebrating their 50th year as a group this year.. 1972 is the year they released their debut single People need love. U should react to that, to see where it all began
'Under Attack' is one of ABBA's best and most underrated songs it should have been a massive hit.

Their last single. This was the end of the ABBA Story until Voyage release last year.

Next song? hmmmmmm - let's try Cassandra - a B-side!!! Criminal. or I Let The Music Speak. Both Frida songs.
Agreed, you guys should look for the performance of Cassandra from the German TV show in late 1982 rather than lyric video.
I think this was the last video the group released in the 80s. It was so sad....they just walked out into the brightness and disappeared for almost 40 years. Bittersweet video. Loved this song.

A subconscious farewell at the time, where all seemed had decided to say goodbye to the '70s in favour of the new decade.

Congratulations on your reaction. Despite your age you really appreciate good music. ABBA 4-ever
This was their last new song on Top of the Pops in November, 1982. After this, they announced they were unofficially done as ABBA.
Under Attack is my very favourite ABBA song. I first heard it in 1993 and was captivated by it. I’m so happy you love it too.

Should I Laugh or Cry!!!!!!
@German Morawski Frida actually practiced her voice to get that distorted sound, with very little editing while singing the Visitors.
One of my faves, thank you for the reaction.

The last video of Abba, and they fade into the sunlight.
This was the final song they videoed before their 40 year hiatus. The end of this video blends in so well with the climax moment of the video for I Still Have Faith In You.

No doubt about it, ABBA are the best band in the world right now, just as they were 40 years ago in 1982.
My favorite ABBA song!
Have you reviewed their Watch Out? You might like it.
Watch Out and My Mama Said. Both have sick bass!

Why Did It Have To Be Me - from "ABBA the movie" Live in Australia - Frida rocks with Bjorn;

I can’t wait for you to react to I AM THE CITY by ABBA.
If we go back a few years, "Gonna Sing You My Love Song" is also excellent!
Do ABBA's "People need love" one of their first songs as a group. Think is from 1972. Little different, but also very good!
Thanks, Marissa! Thanks, Tyler! 🚨 #TylerCreatesContent #UnderAttack #ABBA
As others have already pointed out and as a follow up to your comments on Under Attack you guys should react to I Am The City. Benny was clearly going synthy back then. That song was so ahead of its time, catchy... you said it yourselves... they just keep surprising us trying out new ideas.
ABBA - THATS ME PLEASE REACT
@TylerCreatesContent react to ABBA That's Me
That's magical
@@frankly-he1kf Heavenly!
I don’t know if I or anyone answered it but on there is a vocoder on the vocals.
Please do summer night City!
Try ABBA That's me.
Excelente song from Arrival 1976
Summer night city.... You won't regret it :)
One of Us is another good ABBA Song

I am the city is a must next!
Great reaction! And thank you for no more having the background music in your videos 🤗
IMO the later Abba songs were more interesting than the Dancing Queen stuff.
💚
You have to review “I Am The City”
react to ABBA thats me = ABBA s best song. PLEASE REACT
It’s a nice song, but not a huge favourite of mine. The big hits left are One of Us, I have a Dream, Summer Night City, Voulez Vous. Loads of other great ABBA songs still to react to. Plenty of great suggestions so far.
Loco Loco good fun.
Just curious if Tyler's or Marissa's Parents or Grandparents were ABBA fans back in the day!!
I think Tyler told me one time that his mom is an ABBA fan. As for me, my grandmother likes ABBA :)
