First one that actually left the ground.....defying expectations.
@ryan lemons
Looks like chain😨
Actually surprised too
I went from troll mode into, dude! you're doing it! RESPECT and balls of steel. Unlike others, this guy is next level.
this give me Hope.
True
I have nothing but respect for this man that strives to accomplish his goals.
Maybe he should use heavier scrap?
@@TheMrPeteChannel That could be a factor but the reason why it crashed is because it went into a spin due to an imbalance of speed between the main propeller and the tail propeller. African govt's should pick up from the intense hunger for innovation and creativity of youngsters like this one and set up institutes to help them improve what they are working on. Such enthusiasm should not be allowed to die away.
You have respect for someone whose goal is suicide? If this was in North America, Europe or Asia, this would be considered a project not a goal.
Does it make you feel smarter when you see inventors like that around you?
Not if they're just copying something without any effort to understand how it works. A child does that.
This is the first time I've actually seen a self-made Ugandan machine fly. Good on this man.
Seriously, he did a good job.
Their is lack of proper equipment and lack of some knowledge but he has the will and he's trying and that's pretty respectable.
Africa has never invented anything. There has never been one single thing that has actually come from any country. They just see a picture on the internet and try and emulate. I do this do, but never this complicated. You have to understand torque, gyroscopic precession, balance, and other things even I have no idea about. African countries are hell on earth. We should block the entire continent off. Female genital mutilation, gang rape of anything, hunting killing n eating albino children, fistula epidemic caused by sick cultural practices, rape of animals, and I could go on and on about the evil things that go on there. Fact check any of that if you want. You will be very very sad and sick when you find out the truth. Then you will understand why 12 percent of our population is responsible for 50 percent of all murder and violent crime. They even ship in rotten meat from Europe and sell and eat it. Frontal Lobes are very lacking there. It might make you mad and it might be r. It doesn't make it not the truth and fact. In Muslim countries men rape little boys all day and night. They think this is normal behavior. They told all the western soldiers this every time they found little boys on the bases. They actually told western forces that these children wanted this and god will forgive it. What do you want me to do rape my grandmother or sister. God would not forgive this. These little boys offer their bums in the night. That was actual quote from top ranking soldier Muslim soldier in documentary called Is this what winning looks like. Still think respectable? lol Sorry if you didn't know all of this. It really messes with the mind when you know how evil the world actually can be.
He is repectable but the people and particularly anyone funding him shouldn't be encouraging this man to continue with his suicide copter..
All jokes aside, compared to some I've seen you've got to give it to the guy.
True, at least he managed to get it off the ground, the engine power is there, now he just needs to tune the tail rotor to keep him sturdy
The man is self taught and has only primary school education. Imagine what amazing things he could achieve given the right support.
Agree , he has done quite well, given the circumstances
That's not a helicopter, it's just am ground effect vehicle.
True this is the first one that actually took off and fly
Ugandan Air Force should give him a scholarship and become a aviation pilot.
No, not a pilot but an engineer
After 20 years. I am preparing to take off
HAHAHA. You know some of the air forces of these countries are like 2 soviet made helicopters from the 80s right?
@@OffGridInvestor never knew they were threatened by neighbour's also right.
What are you talking about? He is not aspiring to be a pilot! He has an innovative/inventive mind. He wants to build helicopters. It is Ugandan govt that should set up an institute where such talents can be developed further with an aim of manufacturing to various aircrafts in due course. Africa is facing a curious challenge. Dreamers at the bottom of the technological pyramid lack the financial and technological skills to realize their dreams. And governments are just not concerned with them. And those close to the top of the pyramid are too comfortable having streamlined themselves into the cost life of employment, getting their "dirty cut" from tenders and lining their pockets with stolen public funds. All suffering from the sad and uninspiring mentality of studying only so as to get a job.
That chain drive to the tail rotor is an accident waiting to happen.
Slicklickz someone tell him it should be a shaft instead
The entire thing is a disaster.
Logic was chain drives give better power figures compared to both belt and shaft drives. Being the engine was small maximizing power output to the blades had to be a priority
@@machariamaina437 LOL. Like any of that would ever matter, it's about as ready to fly as those cargo-cult stick aircraft, it's symbolic as tho flying is a magic trick....fool enough folks and your good to go....or at least scam them out of lunch money.
All I keep thinking ,if it flies, he's going to die!!
When acknowledging the resources he has it’s quite impressive what he has achieved
Lol, nope...it's embarassing
@@Alesxandros Nope. He built it and it Flew. Better than you can do
@@roundedges2 flew it 11:11, bro europeans invented helicopters in the '40s, 80 years ago.
The italian inventor Leonardo da Vinci designed an helicopter 500 years ago.
This guy with all due respect, is embarassing, brave maybe but embarassing.
@@Alesxandros and abbas ibn firnas in 8th was the first to attempt to fly in andalusia, not leo da vinci
@@khalifaezzar5151 leonardo da vinci designed an helicopter we have the proofs, ibn firnas was berberid not arab, it was ethnically caucasic like da vinci, search on wikipedia.
Btw, the indians wrote objects similar to planes 6000 years before christ, the images are in the vedas.
Having experienced two crashes, has scar and now-healed broken bones and my brother still didn't implement no safety in his design? I mean I'm studying mechanical engineering and my University wouldn't let me do this, and neither would I want to, but MAN...... RESPECT (I just can't help but respect this guy)
not him. the crash is someone else.
You don't need university to do those..just do it..you're on your own man
@@ridzwananuar5919 yeah, you kinda do..
Search up average iq in sub saharan Africa.
Sub-Saharan IQ intensifies
Imagine where africa would be if they just stopped inventing things that already exist.
If you look at a longer version of "his" test flight, its actually amazing how much he still could use his broken when he climbed out of the wreck
Got to say he actually did fly for a moments ... Well done 👏👏👏👏
That was not him, this reporter is fake, the one that flew is a Kenyan! Do your research well!
I have flown longer than that on a 100 dollar bicycle
@@thoos192 U still spent more
From that accident he learned a lesson. I beg to differ.
Have to give credit for his persevering against the odds.
I don't think anyone here realizes the helicopter shown in the crash video wasn't even flown by him, nor was it made by him. They literally just stole the footage from another guy in a completely different country
True, I've seen the original footage. It's a video of a man who crashes his kit-made helicopter. I believe he was from the US, lol those sneaky African reporters.
if this guy was given a proper education he would probably be really smart
Frederick Thomas Really? America? Do u know how many millions live here and still don't amount to anything.
He thought of all the mechanics to get that helicopter off the ground, but he overlooked the most important part. Safety.
Is he the same dude with that helmet?! Still alive!!!
Yeah man, it's the same person
He should have worn his lucky helmet
Yes
Uganda is my favorite nation. Whenever I'm down, they life my spirit with a single video. 💓
Actually...... impressive.. given what he was working with.
True spirit of aviation. Continue , you will perfect it one day.
Props to this guy for having a go!
This guy with access to good education could be a great engineer. How many of us even in the advanced world could do what he did, not many.
In western people make something by group or helped by organisations in africa no one or government help you no materials just they do from scratch, and most of our children taken by western
@@BabiletubeAbdulrahmanmmohamedthey dont do from scratch lol, they do from scrap. Every bit of that material including the motor was imported from the west.
This video is misleading. The contraption he built will never leave the ground. The heli shown that’s actually lifting off is a totally different machine.
I didn't notice till I read your post. Yes it's different.
yeah he modified it. if you look at the other videos with him from a while ago his helicopter looked like that. he changed it so it would.. you know not send him to the hospital when it landed.
That's a shame. I had respect for this guy because he looks almost legit.
@@ElBloeTigre that is his helicopter that was flying for a few seconds before crashing ..after the crash he rebuilt or modified it.That is why it looks different.
The helicopter that is actually lifting off the ground is his helicopter. He had to repair/rebuild it after that crash that is why both helicopters in this video look different.
Most of the European comment is negative. Don't let them discourage you
probably because the guy could have built an ultralight autogyro and be flying by now. Why start with one of the most complex flying machines ?
Ali are you Muslim ?
Actually youtube : 'Accident with homemade helicopter - Brazil', someone is being played - When I saw that chopper close by I could see that something was wrong
Love the welding by covering his eyes
Q:What is an inventor?
A: Someone who dies perfecting a concept
TRT we need part2 of this story man!!!
Its not the helicopter..the pilot isn't skilled enough. You got a long way ahead. Get funds so you can get a pilot's liscence. Overall you did a great job.
if he had funds he could build a better one funds are the problem i think
This man is amazing. He discovered the concept of motorized flight in the early 2000s! So ahead of his time
Hear that folks? "Wind" is what makes it fly!
Benevolent_Tyrant yes his right without generating wind higher than the total weight of the machine it would not be air worthy (lift). That is why propeller machines like this can not fly in the outer space.
It also lift because of the depressurization created on the top of the "wing". The nature don't like the emptiness, so the helicopter is sucked up to fill in.
Gunga needs more wind , should try eating more beans for self propulsion.
@@peruanodiscipulodehitlerhe7359 this dude probably has more brain than your entire clan and he did not go past primary education.
@@machariamaina437 it's actually kind of funny. Don't read too much into it. Beans=hurricane force winds from your nether regions...no? Too much?
Stay tuned! Next we see someone invent the wheel, and the lever!
Ok. In Africa when people say invent it doesn't mean the same thing as to be the first to create but it means to recreate. English is not our first language so bare with us. We know who invented these things. Just trying to catch up with the rest of the world
Keep on trying you will make it one day
Amazing considering what he has to work with. Fortunate he didn't lose his head in the crash !! 😱
you are the first african to takeoff from the ground brother...you are representing the continent...bigups bro
When the chain on my bike comes off, I get oily fingers putting it back on.
When the chain driving the tail rotor comes off, he dies.
His efforts and achievements get my utter respect, though no one in any of these televised interviews seems to mention safety, or getting advice from any professional; a quick look over from an aircraft engineer could result in a better safer option somewhere.
When I care about someone, I want them to bloody stay alive.
Wakanda For evaa!!!!!!
🔥🔥💥💥
Yeah, the paint it what makes it fly
Only if it's RED...CUZ RED IS FASTA! xD
@@fenris1168 a man of culture
This is the first time I’ve ever seen one of these African home built helicopters work. Good for him, keep it up.
He followed his passion and built a helicopter from scratch out of lessons he learnt by himself.. what have YOU done?
He’s got the rebar, needs funding for the concrete
From Mauritius good job keep it up
What a daring, spirited guy is our Joseph. I defy anyone with his limited resources to achieve anything like this. We're all so quick to pass judgement but he wakes up every day with purpose (whether it makes sense to others is irrelevant) and is pursuing his very lofty aspirations undaunted, despite numerous difficult (and painful) setbacks. How many of us can attest to the same? Good luck to you - makes me feel like I should be doing so much more with basically unlimited resources at my fingertips. You are an inspiration. Cheers from Aust - Dave
This is the man who wears cycling helmet in another video right? Most of the comments there did not believe he could but look at him now.. salute to you sir.
My boss used to say to me,
" A little knowledge is a dangerous thing". I gotta give this guy credit though. Definitely doesn't know the word to give up!
I think it is a replica/imitation of the helicopter which crashed in the footage. To make things interesting, the reporter created his own version of story.
The blades and tail almost twice shorter. Engine shrinked triple the size. Cooling fan is welded as decoration purpose in the same spot as crashed helicopter, it service no purpose. The torque transferred thru the shaft in the tail not thru the chain.
I don't blame the man who build the machine. I certainly like DIY people. Engineer it self didn't say anything suspicious.
But I don't like the story which was represented in this video.
I think of that also..
Exactly, this reporter is fake, such an idiot, he thinks everyone is stupid like his country men! The helicopter that flew was actually Kenyan and not Ugandan! Just do your research.
CORRECT........
Wow.. African technology has reached mid 1930s levels. There is just no stopping these brilliant, amazing, and industrious people!!
@S E P Wtf are you talking about?
Don't give up. Keep learning, follow advice from those who want you to succeed. Incredible abilities you have to apply yourself.
Yes learn from the Chinese steal technology from the West and you will like cool on RUclips.
I absolutely love this man.
He gets my respect, for having accomplished as much as he did.
Yes, that gets some instruction, so as not to repeat some of his predecessors' mistakes.
Get the guy some flight lessons. All he did was cut power too soon so it auto rotated under the inertia of the main rotor. Less power and more tail rotor and he was golden. This guy is a steam punk hero!
0:49 did he just said "heli-copita"?
It's called an "accent".
You should check your grammar first!
@Oggy No it's an accent. Never heard one before?
@Oggy I'm guessing you've never had to learn another language.
I think breaking his hands were a sign from " divine intervention " saying stay on the ground.
My brother made a gokart when he was 11. Out of a pallet, bike tires and some string.
I thought he was genious...
He flew on a helicopter he built. How many of you did that huh?
looking at his wrists , local doctors do amazing job too.
so many thing waiting to happen (looking at the vibration of the chassis, there is too much fatigue stress on the structure) . Get someone who know to assist you please, the next try may kill you.
Maybe if a helicopter engineer is watching, you should go and visit this guy, give him some good pointers for his spirit and drive.
I was about to make stupid joke, but than i saw his struggle i got a lot of respect for him
Parabéns pelo esforço e dedicação, essa matéria prova que inteligência não depende de etnia, condição econômica ou social. Saudações do Brasil !!!
Verdade
Glad to see him wearing his hi vis vest. Safety first! Lol
That proves objects heavier than air can fly! This helikopta is amazing!
Looks like Ugandan surgeons are as skilled as their welders....sheeesh!
Dear sweet jesus, that's some serious determination! He has no idea how batshit crazy it is for him to be attempting this with the level of knowledge and resources he has. I hope this video inspires those with knowledge and access to reach out to him and help out to at least keep him safe, if not airborne.
Building a pathetic copy of something that was invented long ago does not make one an inventor.
Try doing something similar, and you'll find that working with extremely limited resources requires astonishingly high levels of inventiveness.
@@MrSunrise- yeah, lack of resources because of backwards continent
Even the guy in the aircraft that flew is not the one he is interviewing, just look at the design and engineering, totally different! How can you make something fly in the first attempt then later create a generator? That guy that flew his is actually Kenyan and not Ugandan!
Did anyone notice that in the first video made by other people it's a working helicopter...probably from a kit? The crash occurred due to poor piloting skill. The helicopter they show in the interview, however, is built completely from scrap to make it resemble the one in the video as much as possible, it is a replica that will never fly.
This is impressive, as much as everyone is making a joke of it. He’s clearly a clever and resourceful man. It’s no different to the early helicopter experiments in the west. He just doesn’t have the same knowledge base and resources to build on. Does he have a go fund me for books and materials?
Well! He got off ground! Best i've seen so far!🍻🥴👍
The wrong brothers
😂
This is real grit n absolute tenacity. I myself am impressed with this guy's determination.
This is the real Wakanda, and this newfangled invention will surely revolutionize air travel. The wonders of the 21st century will never cease to amaze me. Truly, the future has arrived. I just hope he is willing to share this technology with the rest of the world.
Helicopter? Slightly tilting death trap!.
Dutch: GET TO DA CHOPPA!!
*Sees this*
NOO DO NOT GET TO DA CHOPPAA!!!
Let's take our chances with the PREDATOR!!
Ghetto da choppa
He better pray that thing never leaves the ground.
Is this the greatest African inventor in history? Some say yes.
He needs to give it away while he is still ahead.
You mean while he still has a head
Yep same old story...after sponsorship to develop something that will never work just as a means of getting money ..the thing is the guy has built it to look like the one in the video that crashed yet its operating dynamics don't match that of the one flying.. the out of balance condition is a dead giveaway
@mike brink The tail on the one that crashed is also at least double the length and appears to be made out of a lighter metal like aluminum. It's definitely a send me money scam. The part where the guy was talking about getting in touch with the aviation industry made me laugh. For what? Ultra lights are mostly hobby level stuff. Unless you build a really good design and want to produce and market it yourself.
man that is a death trap, helicopters are precision, balanced machines. Not the case here but awesome he is willing to risk his life
I wish I were rich. I'd by that man a Robbins R44 and flight training. His passion for flight is intense and his balls are clearly very big. I'd just love to give him that gift, I know the draw to flight. I sure hope he never gets hurt.
Having been an aircraft owner and builder/restorer of aircraft I see these African homebuilt machines and usually can only shake my head in wonderment at "WTF were they thinking?" This guy though appeared to be on the right track if he could achieve what seemed to be a relatively stable hover. He could with a bit of help and training in a/c construction principles get it right I would think!
Its all the negativity in the comment section that is driving these people to push harder and learn faster.
Why you and others are saying inventors?
I applaud his drive to go out and create and build things, and I pity him for not even being remotely aware of how a helicopter works and what it takes to control it.
the tail propeller does not succes to compensate the rotation of the main propeller; the helicopter turns on itself, that is why the accident occurs !
If you really want to help this man, start by funding a helicopter ride for him. Have him become familiar with the real thing so he can gain some much needed inspiration. He's smart enough to figure the rest out on his own, with a some help from others.
"Heli cop it ah"
What potential this guy has if only he went to a real flight school.
Let’s start with 1st grade education…
Probably never heard of the internet or a tape measure.
0:48 helicopiter 😂
wao! this is first things from Africa that can fly! congratulations!
They are 500 Years back. Stone age !
Such a brilliant and talented young man. He should be inducted in proper industry. Appreciate
That's actually very impressive. What sucks is that we never hear about men like him but instead just hear about the guys who build something stupid that'll never fly.
"we never hear about men like him.."
You say that after watching this video?
Do you realise how stupid that sounds?

We do hope the government through ministry of technology will bank roll him for funding and collaboration with other bodies in the same field. But if after three years and he has not captured the attention of any, then Ugandan should just support his effort. He is a great resource
I respect this guy good to see his work I hope he stays safe

it did find a way, white people made it, this is a poor mimmick...., and dangerous.
@Truth Hurts White empathy is stronger than black violence, loool
he is a genius.
A 'genius' for trying to make something that exists in millions around the world?
Suchuato Ritoru It kinda did
@S E P
It doesn't matter. He should not waste valuable time, effort and money if he does not have the resources to achieve it. That is stupid!
Start small. Build something that is achievable. Sell it. Make money. Use that money to buy further resources. Then build your helicopter.
Unfortunately the moment an African gets hold of an angle grinder and a hammer he wants to build a spacecraft and fly to Mars
