- Oh look, we have a special this time!
Instead of just a single locomotive, this time, it's a mini-documentary on a whole class. This episode, we dive into Germany's fastest steam locomotives, as a way to commemorate the loss of one of its biggest heroes.
May Sabine forever rest peacefully. I may not have heard of her before this, but I still pray for her peace.

I'll always love these locomotives, especially when they were unstreamlined. They are like 01s but bigger. Also rest in peace Sabine she'll always be the Queen of speed and of the Nurberg ring.

And as for the DRG 05s, they were successful but they had some unique problems of the German streamlined design. This casing was supposed to make them look arrow-dynamic but the problems were pretty bad. I really agree with you on the German streamlining because they’re hard to maintain, some with not very good looking arrow-dynamic style and cause a lot of problems on some steam engines.
An unique and forgotten loco. Whilst I hear your dislike for the streamlining ( which in my opinion is why she is the greatest looking steamer about) is just wonderes for its own right.
Seeing the approach German engineers took, covering the whole locomotive instead of designing such streamlining from the beginnen (A4) is an more conventional way of doing it.
As the Belgians and sweeds followerd this example.
Whilst the 05 with its streamlined brother de 03.10 and the BR 61 where all the very first true high speed implemented trains, the experience let to the father of all high speed trains: The flying Hamburger. Whom in turn became the grandfather of the earlier TEE lines.
All of which share design features of the plating from this very locomotive. While not practical she is a staple in Train development.

As unique as they appear, I'll stick to Hudsons from carriers like the New York Central, Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, and so on.
At least I didn't say I liked them as streamliners. :/

@@JessicaKasumi1990 Especially the 05 003. It's original form has got to be one of if not the most hideous looking steam locomotive I've ever seen. Hell it doesn't even look like a Steam Locomotive, and had it not been for the Schematic drawing shown beforehand I would've never in a million years believe that it even was one. Seriously it literally makes the British Rail GT3 look more like a steam locomotive, and THAT locomotive was a *GAS TURBINE!*

I've never heard about these locomotives before until now, and I've got to say that while the Streamlined look is a bit much *(It's the fact that you can only see around 5% of the God tier driving wheels due to a metal skirting soo excessive that it puts some ballroom gowns to shame that irks me)* these are some mighty fine and respectable machines we have here. Oh and I do agree with you that the streamlining on the 05 001 *HAS TO GO.*

why so against streamlining wtf. It looked so cool like it was 50 years ahead in aesthetics when it was built in 1930s. It looked like alien tech almost. Very very cool. No need to hate on it..
