Yes, I also heard this conversation by a musician. I have heard many people speaking for Mohammad Rafi and his God given divine talent. For example, Shammi Kapoor was not a great actor but he was successful primarily due to his songs sung by Mohammad Rafi. He could never think of any other singer. Similarly other stars of Bollywood who became successful were not great actors.
Why there be other like Rafi? Is there the others like Mukesh, Kishore, Talath etc? You took the whole world. Has the entire world recognised Rafi or any other Indian singer as the greatest? Why these waste words. Even in India, both Rafi and Mannadey fall short to Ghantasala in filmy classical singing. So, you better limit yourself for Hindi songs.

All I can say is, that this is perhaps the most honest interview on this topic. if I were to give an opinion it would almost be identical to what Manada said. Rafi sb was truly unmatched and Manada was a distant 2nd but still, the closest anyone came to having a similar talent. Rafi sb's voice was unique, he could transform it any which way he wanted. Manada's voice had natural character and grain that limited his overall scope.
What kind of journalism is this? The whole 5 mins he had the same question "who do you think is better?", I wonder how Manna Dey sahab was keeping his composure but he answered with grace and humility.

Yes, I also heard this conversation by a musician. I have heard many people speaking for Mohammad Rafi and his God given divine talent. For example, Shammi Kapoor was not a great actor but he was successful primarily due to his songs sung by Mohammad Rafi. He could never think of any other singer. Similarly other stars of Bollywood who became successful were not great actors.
Why there be other like Rafi? Is there the others like Mukesh, Kishore, Talath etc? You took the whole world. Has the entire world recognised Rafi or any other Indian singer as the greatest? Why these waste words. Even in India, both Rafi and Mannadey fall short to Ghantasala in filmy classical singing. So, you better limit yourself for Hindi songs.

According to him Mohammad Rafi had a clear voice, he could modulate his voice and he was versatile. Other singers are good but in certain ways. They are not versatile and none could modulate. Why are you categorising it into Hindi. The fact is that Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh, Mamma Dey and others sang Urdu lyrics. Even today Bollywood is dominated by Urdu lyrics and dialogues. I have learnt Urdu from. Priest in London. You are restricting the singer to Hindi which is not true. You should watch your tone and words.
@@milisily Your referred foreign musician might not be aware of Ghantasala Venkateswar Rao or the other South Indian singers since you people project only Hindi as the language of India. GVR's voice is more masculine, more classical and he was a classically trained student from Vijayanagaram Maharaja's college of music. He composed excellent music for 112 movies apart from many private albums and Bhagavadgeetha. A record holder of 10000+ songs by his death in Feb 1974, at age 51. NTR, ANR etc became famous only with his songs. He had sung for all south languages. Rafi once said he could not meet with the class of GVR. LISTEN to this first Thelugu song and next Hindi one to find the difference between the two male singers. I am also a fan of Rafi but when to say for India, it would be GVR as my first choice.

All I can say is, that this is perhaps the most honest interview on this topic. if I were to give an opinion it would almost be identical to what Manada said. Rafi sb was truly unmatched and Manada was a distant 2nd but still, the closest anyone came to having a similar talent. Rafi sb's voice was unique, he could transform it any which way he wanted. Manada's voice had natural character and grain that limited his overall scope.
