ONCE BY WIPING OUT 75,000 OF THEIR SOLDIERS AND STILL NOT FINISH THE JOB AND ROME CRAWLED BACK TO LIFE AND KILLED CARTHAGE. ROME KNEW HOW TO FINISH A FIGHT.
Rome was dedicated to it's military, where Carthage was run by merchants. Hannibal never could have won by himself because he was isolated on the Italian peninsula and there were other AOs just as vital.
You are right, but I don't think he would have had such an easy time taking the city with the army he had. And invested in a long term seige he could have been struck in the rare by the Legions from Spain.
Yes, Rome knew how to finish a fight, but it wasn't so much that Hannibal just didn't know what to do with his victories, he simply wasn't able to do much with it. The Carthaginian government didn't give Hannibal the proper number of soldiers and the proper equipment, and he didn't have the siege skills to take out a city the size of rome. Additionally, he wasn't trying to conquer rome or completely destroy it, he was trying to damage it and show his, and Carthage's, superiority.
He didn't have enough power after the battle of cannae to take Rome.hannibal knew that better than all of us.help from Carthage didn't come to take Rome.
A minor inaccuracy: The horse riders are shown using stirrups which hadn't been invented by then forcing the rider to clamp the torso of the horse with his legs. Also the narrator is the actor that played Pompey Magnus in the HBO show Rome.

Yes like the saying ((he could defeat the Legions and Armys of Rome but he couldn't defeat Rome herself)) and Cannae was a Major battle and loss on both sides not just Rome and it's simple on why couldn't take and defeat Rome herself cause a city wide seige can take up to days weeks or even months and peopl occasionally don't have the essence or time and a City Wide seige takes up a lot of resources and it takes a good mind of seige technology resources and manpower and Hannibal didn't have the resources nor the manpower ((which is why he sent his brother back to Carthage)) and Hannibal after the previous battles and the battle of Cannae practically depleted him

The children who were sacrificed probably were stillborn or could not make it because of illness. Kinda hard to imagine them sacrificing healthy kids for no apparent reason
Point taken. But Carthage has a small population. and they’ll need every able bodied persons for the navy, business etc. So the sacrifice is either figurative or if literally, those who have no chance of survival like the stillborn or died of illness. They don’t have a population surplus to sacrifice their own literally
Actually there were studies done on the bones some of them were as old as 6 years old. The ages varied widely from newborns to 7ish years old, certainly not still born. It was institutionalized mass child sacrifice to Baal.

@@solaurelian7638, The Roman army (Latin: exercitus Romanus) was the armed forces deployed by the Romans throughout the duration of Ancient Rome, from the Roman Kingdom (753 BC-509 BC) to the Roman Republic (509 BC-27 BC) and the Roman Empire (27 BC-476 AD) Looks like it's a matter of semantics. Just because they mimicked the Greek Phalanx does not mean they were not legions.
Sadly, They were all slaveholders. Here is an excerpt dealing with Carthage PoWs: Diodorus (Diod. 25.10.3) Hasdrubal, the son-in‑law of Hamilcar, having been sent by his father-in‑law to Carthage to take part in the war with the Numidians who had revolted against the Carthaginians, cut down eight thousand men and captured two thousand alive; the rest of the Numidians were reduced to slavery, having formerly paid tribute.
I would say the Punic wars is the greatest conflicts between to great powers, even more than France and the British empire,or England vs Spain, the only thing that rival it is The hostilities between the German reich and Russia ,but still the Punic wars are in a class of its own..
he made history, facing inept Roman generals and crossing the Alps (resulting in a lot of his men and most of his elephants dying), but Scipio Africanus beat him by "thinking outside the box" and destroying his supply line so instead of destroying Rome, all Hannibal could do is terrorize the local peasants. Then Scipio threatened Carthage, so Hannibal lost the war.
The lighting of 🔥 on opposing positions is a common theme. Genghis Khan, allegedly used this tactic. It is also referenced to by Sun Tzu in the art of war. I remember it being used in historical fiction by Stephen Pressfield and an ther I'm forgetting. It must of been intimidating to see.

Today the Elites sacrifice other people’s kids. As I’m sure they did 2000 years ago. New day same old Ba’al cult revolving around power and money.
Point taken. But Carthage has a small population. and they’ll need every able bodied persons for the navy, business etc. So the sacrifice is either figurative or if literally, those who have no chance of survival like the stillborn or died of illness. They don’t have a population surplus to sacrifice their own literally
@@twirajuda like today’s elite pedocrats, they sacrifice OTHERS CHILDREN, not their own.
Actually there were studies done on the bones some of them were as old as 6 years old. The ages varied widely from newborns to 7ish years old, certainly not still born. It was institutionalized mass child sacrifice to Baal.
Leather Lorica Secmentata, and on top in a time period where Lorica Secmentata wasn’t even used in the Roman army.
And look at the size of the scutum(s)...
Heheheheh
strategy seemed even more important back then since all armies basically fought with the same weaponry, well i mean sword and shield
They should reconstruct Carthage as it would look incredible like Rome. Including a monument to Hannibal 🧔

" No one before or after Hannibal could have defeated the Roman legions.'
Alexander the Great: " Hold my beer and watch this."
Roman legions were not a thing during Alexanders conquests. They are still mimicking the Phalanx.
@@solaurelian7638,
The Roman army (Latin: exercitus Romanus) was the armed forces deployed by the Romans throughout the duration of Ancient Rome, from the Roman Kingdom (753 BC-509 BC) to the Roman Republic (509 BC-27 BC) and the Roman Empire (27 BC-476 AD)
Looks like it's a matter of semantics. Just because they mimicked the Greek Phalanx does not mean they were not legions.
Hannibal was great! In fact, all those who fight for freedom and against slaveholders will have my full support... 🌍
Sadly, They were all slaveholders. Here is an excerpt dealing with Carthage PoWs:
Diodorus (Diod. 25.10.3)
Hasdrubal, the son-in‑law of Hamilcar, having been sent by his father-in‑law to Carthage to take part in the war with the Numidians who had revolted against the Carthaginians, cut down eight thousand men and captured two thousand alive; the rest of the Numidians were reduced to slavery, having formerly paid tribute.

I would say the Punic wars is the greatest conflicts between to great powers, even more than France and the British empire,or England vs Spain, the only thing that rival it is The hostilities between the German reich and Russia ,but still the Punic wars are in a class of its own..

Hey Mary!! Ihuh!!
Fact: The Carthaginians on Hannibal's march over the Alps became cannibals. (No pun intended.)
Let's go watching this is fantastic information
so much is presumptions
he made history, facing inept Roman generals and crossing the Alps (resulting in a lot of his men and most of his elephants dying), but Scipio Africanus beat him by "thinking outside the box" and destroying his supply line so instead of destroying Rome, all Hannibal could do is terrorize the local peasants. Then Scipio threatened Carthage, so Hannibal lost the war.
I thought the greatest war ever fought was between the mongoose Rikki Tikki and the cobras, Naag and his wife Naga'ina...

Cow Patty vs “the Killer “.
