You can add the left over salmon skin with the water/chicken stock/fish stock while it cooks to give it an extra fishy, savory flavor. Take it out right as it starts to fall apart. you're getting all the collagen proteins and omega-3 fats, which are very good for you.
Wow. I made this exact same recipe, albeit with a slightly differently technique, tonight for dinner and am eating it as I watch your video. I had never heard of Finnish soup and just searched on RUclips to see what other type of salmon soup recipes exist. What a coincidence! They are seasonal flavors that just make sense together, I guess.
Made this tonight. Used seafood stock as I couldn’t find fish stock anywhere and was kind of worried once I added the stock, but it turned out amazing. One of my favorites and something I never would have ever tried without STCG.
Yes indeed; I'm late to the game of yet another Sam the Cooking Guy video, by 5 yrs, 5 days. But one is never to late for a wonderful recipe!! Looking forward to making this Salmon soup....
A thing to remember is you shouldn't cook the dill too much I think. I mean not over a lot of heat. It's a delicate herb with a delicate taste which will be ruined if cooked for too long. Herbs are different in this regard. Some you can - and SHOULD - cook for a long time. Dill is not one of them and you should maybe just parboil it and switch it off, stir and let it sit. Be careful with that stuff. -b
I just made this a few days ago, but when fall comes I make it often, but Thursdays are pea soup days here in my house. Finnish tradition in the army as my husband says.
Hey Sam, I watch your channel more then anything I have ever watched. I am writing you today to tell you that I made this soup and It was the best soup I have ever made!!!! Thank you
Made the soup but used lobster broth because the store didn’t have fish broth. Then we decided to used shrimp and lobster instead of salmon. Came out awesome.
In Finland you'd actually use whole corns of allspice instead of the ground pepper. We put it in all our soups and stews. My mom is infamous with allspice, you end up with 20+ corns decorating the rim or your plate when eating her soup. (because you obviously don't eat the corns)
Thank you for the recipe. I would love to try this recipe because I like to try leek in fish soup! I am originally from Russia and fish soup is much common than in the USA. The fish stock we can't make from any fish, some fish is not for stock at all!:) Salmon is great to make stock! To my taste, the best soup is a soup from osetra. Use a fish scale for stock and it gives no taste difference but gives more thickness.
This was funny with that wind screwing up your fire & papers. Looks very good and traditional, I'm doing it similar way except I also add parsnip & celery root for extra variety to taste. Highly suggesting those two, will get even better
Had to buy some knives 🔪?! FISKAR FOR THE PROPER CHEF AND CULINARY LOVERS! HOPE YOU BOUGHT SOME FISKARS, GAME CHANGER… even with there scissors ✂️ WOW 🤩

Nah, there has to be more cars than saunas in Finland. Many people live in cities in small apartments that dont have saunas. But many of those people still have cars. Theres like 3.5 million cars in Finland wlile theres 5.5 million people in Finland. Some estimates say theres 3.5 million saunas in finland, but that just cant be correct. If you live in Finland, you just know. Not even half of the population has their own sauna.
Capital markets buy only salmon from fishers who get salmon from the nearby ocean or from those who caught the salmon at lapland and drove back to capital at same or next day. They wont buy salmon older than maximum 2 days from catching/killing.
Sauna car on a fairy's wheel! Is your salmon farmed or wild? What is the name of the paste you put in again? Look amazing. I am maybe going to change my mind...

As an American who lived in Finland for 2 years, I can attest that this salmon soup (lohikeitto) is SUPER delicious. Herkullista!
Lohikeitto
We just visited Finland. Salmon there is phenomenal.

Heck, I left the skin right in the soup! Excellent!
Going on-location made this phenomenal. This could be an amazing format for you.

Wow Finland. hello from Canada. I am thinking of making Salmon soup tomorrow. Was thinking of Japanese style. I use salmon head and miso paste.
Ok. Great. NOW I'm hungry and want some salmon soup. AND IT'S FRICKING 4.30 IN THE MORNING!!!!
Made this recipe and i was impressed, i needed some new recipes to clear away all my salmon i caught over the summer, and so far this takes the cake
Finnish butter is the secret. It is used worldwide by the best chefs. Rich, creamy and natural.
Just tried this recipe Sam all I can say is WOW...
WOW! I made this soup yesterday. It was so good. Thank you so much for this recipe.

Just made this recipe out of your cookbook in July 2021, loved it
finland is amazing and salmon soup is delicious! thank you for the recipe, will be making this tomorrow
I couldn’t find fish broth so I bought lobster broth and made it with shrimp and lobster instead of salmon. It was awesome.
Great video Sam, as always. I lived in Finland for a year and a half. This soup is so good. Thanks for the video!
not enough butter in the soup =P
No such thing as too much butter
I just made this a few days ago, but when fall comes I make it often, but Thursdays are pea soup days here in my house. Finnish tradition in the army as my husband says.
Great video, so much went into making this video recipe, greatly appreciated Sam!!!

It looks good!
Can you recommend a tasty substitute for cream so we can avoid lactose intolerance issues?
Use non lactose cream. You can buy it in every grocery store.
great video! and the finnish salmon soup is so tasty
Haha the "Wind-blocK man"
And yes, ur cooking sure tastes delicious !!!!
Do Miss Finland and the Salmon soup!
No doubt that is already great but add some butter to it to make it even better. (thats how I make salmon soup as a finn)
Thanks for sharing! Great job! BTW, it's delicious!
I like the way he casually put the phone on the cutting board lol
Try it with Allspice.
instead of black pepper.
Looks very good!
Great video, and a little Keith Floyd esque
Hilarious, and damn that soup looked amazing.
Hahahaha I almost LOST IT at 00:31
It was at that moment $#!* just got real real, real quick lol.

How make sure salmon doesn’t turn hard and unchewable?
When you add the salmon you should take the pot off the stove and let it poach for 10 or so minutes.
We need more Sam The Travel Dude
Dude I love how campy this shoot was😂 thanks for the simple recipe though, will definitely be making this!!
7 years later, I'm just now discovering this... 😋
that knife is very sharp. like heated knife in butter.
Is the cream necessary, or is it still good without it?
You can use Milk too but its necessary that you use Milk Or cream
“Nikolai the second” 😭
Tried this recipe today and WOW that was fucking delicious 🙏thanks for sharing!
Is it ok to saute the leek in garlic and onion?
It’s obviously gonna taste good. Butter and cream....
Great video!
I miss Filand already
Please put the recipe in the description
Im gonna make that!
Salted or unsalted butter?
The typical butter in Finland is lightly salted, though unsalted varieties are sold as well. I suppose it's according to your taste.
Why is this video so funny
What kind of “cream?”
My neighbor sherry told me it’s a bad idea. I’m gonna prove her wrong, hopefully.
Which country are you from ?
cold smoke salmon makes it the SOUP
So the wind doesn't collapse?
Omgosh- su and cook!!!
Isn't he cooking the salmon for way too long?
Can I just use olive oil instead ;
No! It makes the soup too oily and its not the point in this creamy soup
The salmon already has a lot of oil in it so I would advise against it
It looks yummmm 👍
As a Finnish person, I can't stand the word finlandia
Does it hurt so much deeply that you want to take a break to move on and forget all the pain it has inflicted on your feelings?😭😢😭😢

Is that wild salmon or farmed?

👏
Too much butter but other than that it looks good.
There's no such thing as too much butter!

Its wild
Whatever you do, don't eat the Norwegian salmon. If you don't know why, just make some research.
Dekalitre=10 litres
Your print recipe page continues to print stuff unrelated to the recipe. I wasted pages of paper.
My classmate is named after an italian pasta dish. Guess what his name is XD
Man .. not enough garlic in there ..
Stopped working to watch it )))))
5:20 are you sniffing the first time things you are publicly making soup of?
editing anyone?
Sauna is pronounced sow-na, not saw-na ✌🏻
cannot tell if this an ironic post or not. same with trump.
Best salmon soup recipe with store bought fish stock? Probably not...
Who cares about the theatrics, the weather, or what cointry you're in? Or how many knives one has?
Frustrating because he is so disorganized.
Jaja. Freaky fishy shot...
keep the skin in for more flavor
As a Finn I must say no.
lol this has nothing to do with finnish traditional salmon soup. fish stock and carrots.. really?
Yeah, really.
15 mins of watching this bs vs 3 mins watching the same recipe in the suggestions. MMMmm difficult choice....

Amatööri. Ja vielä roskaa.. Miksi tämmöistä lihaliemipelleilyä ihannoidaan? :(
Camera Guy talking is super annoying
would be a nice show without him
No, he is actually cool.
This guy is so uninteresting
That must be why he has over 2 million subscribers.
